iEmilia Fox — Dr Nikki Alexander in the BBC1 hit — says her character goes on her first proper date for nine years with Lord James Embleton, played by Ed Stoppard.

She also shares some lively banter with new scientist heart-throb Dr Jack Hodgson (David Caves) on a string of nights out.

Emilia said: “It’s been so many years since Nikki has had a date, so it’s lovely to see her romance with Lord Embleton bring out her softer side. There is definitely a side of her that wants to be with someone.

“Whether it works out or not for them after that date is another matter.

“But you see her loosening up a bit and having fun.”
