HYBRID SEEDS

In gardening and agriculture, intentionally cross-pollinating genetically different plants yields hybrid seed. Both amateur gardening and industrial agriculture frequently use hybrid seed. It has played a major role in the sharp increase in agricultural productivity that occurred in the latter part of the 20th century. Clonal propagation and open pollination are substitutes for hybridization.

The purpose of hybrid seeds is to enhance the qualities of the resultant plants, such as increased uniformity, enhanced color, disease resistance, and yield. The parent plants' ability to combine, or heterosis, is a significant factor. It's possible that crossing any specific pair of inbred strains won't produce better offspring. Therefore, great attention is taken while selecting the parent strains to ensure the consistency that results from the plant.
