one thing about growing up poor but smarter than the average bear is that you use all that brainpower on Being Bad (even if your parents say you're supposed to Be Good)

you kinda end up needing to know how to palm stuff, scam and get into places you shouldn't be:

stealing candy, selling junk to your classmates, sneaking into events, etc

a lot of it is stupid short-term scheming but you do it anyway as a kid, because how else are you gonna get what you want, and it usually works

long story short, that's how you know Jimmy grew up poor

Pony Express allows for sick days but only for folks in the office. Those in the out of office labor field only get about 5 hours, which is the length of their mandated sleep schedule.

You and your captain will have credits docked if more than the allotted 5 are logged.

Daisuke likes to make playlists based on genre rather than ideas or feelings.

He does the same thing with artists.

Anya always trains and runs to finish a marathon but she always forgets to sign up.

She likes to listen to albums all the way through from start to finish while running.

Curly moved cities when he was 15. He enrolled into a new school then, where he met 16 Jimmy in the same classes as him.

Jimmy, recently expelled from his last school, stuck close by Curly since they were both in the same boat.

Age 16 and 17 respectively is when the boys got into weightlifting at school.

It stuck with them both for years.

Swansea doesn't like it, but his daughter brought home a cat once and it became his best friend instead.

He's never really enjoyed or cared about cats but that one is just Okay. They sleep on the couch with his dog as well late nights.

Jimmy isn't always an abusive asshole, sometimes he's just delightfully annoying

Jimmy likes to hold eye contact no matter who he is talking to. He also matches body language quite well.

Curly does not. He can mirror anyone to a T though.

Jimmy weight lifts often, with or without Curly. He's underweight, but he's got a high PR.

Daisuke did play baseball, but also wanted to do soccer, basketball, football, ect. His mom was friends with the baseball team coach.

anya finds the knock off legos a little cuter and more endearing than regular legos. she buys those cheap mystery packs at stores and puts them together.

she might gift one she built to a friend. she has plenty on her shelves.

Curly has a guitar and played it through school. He barely remembers the chords but he's good at reading sheet music.

jimmy is really good at driving manual vehicles. he has an old pickup he uses.

Curly lost a molar playing hockey once. He's never gotten it replaced. He shows everyone if someone brings up teeth or hockey.
