A/N: been feeling like a divorced wife bc of this song lately, so I decided to write about it. Anywho, consider this as my wedding gift @1luvkarina
The rain drummed relentlessly against the windowpane, casting a melancholy rhythm throughout the dimly lit apartment. Karina sat on the floor at the edge of her bed, staring blankly at her phone as the soft glow illuminated her face. She had lost track of time, lost in memories that haunted her every thought.
It had been months since you and she had spoken. Months of silence that felt like an eternity. Your relationship had unraveled slowly, like a thread being pulled until it inevitably snapped. Karina replayed the last conversation you ever had, dissecting each word, inspecting every pause, searching for the moment where it all fell apart.
The chorus of a familiar song drifted through the room, a haunting reminder of what you once had:
*And I wonder if I ever cross your mind? For me it happens all the time*
Karina closed her eyes, willing herself not to cry. Memories flashed before her, a blur of laughter and warmth that now seemed so distant. The two of you had been inseparable once, sharing secrets under moonlit skies and dreaming of a future together. But somewhere along the way, you had lost the magic that had bound you together.
Karina's thumb hovered over your contact number. Should she call? Should she at least try to break the silence?
Her heart was filled with longing, with the need to hear your voice just one more time. But her pride held her back, fear of rejection making her fingers feel like ice, frozen in place. What if you had moved on? What if you no longer cared?
The song continued to softly play in the background, a symphony of regrets and what-ifs:
*It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone and I need you now*
Karina swallowed hard. Tears threatened to spill from her eyes. She missed you more than words could ever say, missed the way you fit like puzzle pieces, missed the way your laughter could light up even the darkest corners of her soul.
With a shaky breath, Karina dialed your number, her heart pounding in her chest. The phone rang once, twice, and then:
"Hello?"
Your voice was like a balm to Karina's fractured heart, a lifeline in the storm. She struggled to find the right words to break the silence between you.
"Hey," Karina finally managed, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's me."
"Hi, you've reached Yn's voicemail. I'm sorry I can't take your call right now. Please leave a message after the beep."
There it was. Tears spilled from her eyes, the weight of her guilt and regret crushing her beneath its unbearable burden.
Of course, it was just your voicemail. Why had she expected anything else? She was foolish to think that you'd be waiting by the phone, hoping for her call.
After all, you were dead.
You had died three months ago in a car crash after a heated argument you both had. And she had hated herself for it ever since.
The phone slipped from her grasp, clattering on the floor as she hugged her knees. You were gone. Truly gone. And all that was left were memories and the hollow echo of a voicemail message that would never be heard.
The rain outside seemed to mock her grief, its relentless patter a cruel reminder of all that she had lost.
She needed you, but now it was too late. All the apologies, all the promises—they were just whispers in the wind, lost to the void of time and circumstance.
As the chorus of the song played on in the background, a poignant echo of her heartache, Karina knew one thing for certain:
She would never stop needing you, not now, not ever.
