Daily Mort: A Retrospective (and Bonus Morts #0 & #366)

Daily Mort 2022 is DONE!!! I can't believe it, you can't believe it, we're all in shock. This has been a super hard but definitely rewarding challenge for me.

The point of doing this thing was to get back into the habit of drawing, as I'd fallen out of it for quite some time. In addition to the Morts, I have a whole 5 other fully finished drawings that I did this year! Yes, 5!! And a bunch of sketches that I probably wouldn't have bothered doing! So mission success!

I want to thank all you guys for hanging out with me for my Mort journey, especially everyone who's reblogged/left nice comments! They mean a lot to me! A very special thank you to my friend @penguinsomadagascar for reblogging every single Mort, even the ones she thought were cursed, and for always leaving me a nice comment; I truly looked forward to that every day! And also thanks to my irl best friend Jessie for the moral support, and for often keeping me company on the phone while I drew the Morts!

I'm gonna go back through the blog today and do some tag editing, and I'll make a post later with some "collections" of like the themed Morts that go together! And finally, I leave you with the last Morts that will be posted on this blog: the original profile picture I drew, and a one-year-later redraw! Thanks again for sticking with me and Mort this past year!!!

Daily Mort #363 - Behind the Scenes

So obviously today's Mort was a bit of a monster, I wanted to talk about it a little more and share the progress pictures I took for once!

When I started this blog, I didn't make up any hard rules for myself or anything. I guess the general rule of a daily art blog is that you do the whole drawing in just the one day, which I have successfully done for nearly the entire year-- I have occasionally done the sketch ahead of time, and I think there's one instance I started the lineart a day early when I knew it would take longer than I had (Madrigal triplets Mort I'm looking at you). But other than that, every Mort posted this year, including the queued ones, have been done entirely in one day. So this is the only Daily Mort that I truly cheated on because I worked on it for two weeks 😂

Here's the very original sketch! Started on 12/17; you can see some stuff ended up getting swapped for other stuff that I felt more inclined to draw again

Full picture of outfits that are on the clothes racks before they got stacked together; belatedly realized only one Halloween costume made it in here but it was one of my favorites so that was fine xD

Finished clothes on 12/19, then promptly ignored this thing for a full week 😬

12/26, added the wall decor and some of the big guys and of course the sad boi Mort

12/27, by this point the document was a giant mess of layers. If I had to work this week I'd have been in big trouble

And yesterday 12/28, finished up the pile! Everything on the floor was done today, so it was at least completed on its proper day. I think it turned out pretty good! The last two Morts will also have a lot going on but should be considerably easier to draw 😂
