ten years ago you were so scared of such different things, but you survived them anyway. the same goes for five years ago and two years ago. everything that has ever felt like a hurdle, you’ve passed through. so be afraid, identify your fears, and then allow yourself to remember that in just a little while, this will be another thing that you have overcome.

Just know that the work you put into yourself will always compound and pay you back 100x. And there’s no rush to a finish line, everything is always a work in progress. I will never regret going to college, buying books, courses, classes, investing in hobbies, traveling, the gym and workout classes, high quality organic food, good healthcare, high quality clothing, taking care of my skin/hair/nails/teeth/brows/lashes/etc. because it all snowballs into the larger picture. No one can take your education from you. No one can take your fit body and healthy, glowing appearance from you. It takes real work day in and day out to have it all together. I’ve invested thousands of dollars and countless hours into myself and I would do it all again and then some. There is no easy fix and there is no get rich quick scheme. You know what you have to do, it just takes the courage to do it.

your daily walks wrapped
you soaked up 10,985 minutes of sunshine, rain, and other weather
you walked past 4,073 individuals you would describe as the most beautiful person in the world
you bore witness to 23% more of your local area than last year—good job!
you saw 3 of the weirdest dogs you will ever see in your life
you noticed 18 people visibly, tenderly in love with each other
you smelled 243 flowering plants & shrubs
you drank 267 delicious beverages
you were kissed invisibly and imperceptibly by 117 bumble bees and butterflies
you were witness to 87,441,289 gorgeous leaves

my 2024 goals
Exercise 3x a week (ideally 4-5x). This includes walking home but weight-lifting would be a plus.
Buy more fake flowers for arranging. Buy some pretty vases for them, too!
Eat more healthily and transition to flexitarian diet.
Learn 40 songs for the spring semester on guitar.
Read academic journals - at least one a month. (More reasonable to do.)
Finish writing your favorite fic!! It's time.... It's time.
Join a community theater. It starts now... Do it scared, then.
Grow a vegetable on the porch. (I still want to do this.) And also an aloe vera plant.
Find a leave-in conditioner thick enough for your hair. Get a wolfcut and try going a lighter color!
Begin filling out internship applications. Ask your professors EARLY for recommendations!!
Don't fall in love. (Not that I ever have before.) I want to focus on my degree and finish strong with all A's. Stay on campus and finish studies for the day before heading home to goof off.
Read at least one book for fun every other month. (Fanfiction does not count. Plays/scripts do.)

did most of this happen? no. COVID got in the way of the fall goals.
but I did lose weight which proves the exercise I WAS able to do worked out. and I'm finally back to walking home from class, so we're getting back to normal exercise.
i DID buy several flowers, just not real ones - I figured being able to arrange my own as I pleased/felt for the week would serve me better. I was right!
I have learned 17 new songs this semester on guitar (memorized completely). Hooray!
The hair situation is (mostly) figured out. Still need to find a leave-in that works for my frizz - wolfcut may help alleviate it, though, so we'll see after winter break.
I did not achieve 4, 6, or 7. (10 isn't up to me.)
I'm 29 now. I'll pin my 2024 goals to remind myself to stay the course.
Good luck, future me - I believe in you!
my 2023 fall goals (which start now in the summer):
1. "don't be afraid to make mistakes."
2. do the things that interest you, even if nobody else joins you
3. buy flowers every week/every other week
4. grow a vegetable on the porch
5. work out 5hrs/wk (total, including walking home from class -> so 2.5hrs extra exercise/wk, basically)
6. purchase a blender
7. read one scientific journal entry/wk
8. learn one new song on guitar every other week (on top of required repertoire for class)
9. figure out the hair situation
10. fall in love (?) - if it's meant to happen, it will
(i've almost given up on #10, it's been 28 long years and it hasn't happened yet, it was my biggest dream as a child/teenager, but maybe it isn't meant for me. we'll see.)
