I love 'hero living long enough to become the villain', but oughhhh, 'villain living long enough to become the hero' is life altering. Also not just ending in some goddamn sacrifice. They've gotta legit LIVE with those actions. And holy fuck, if they end up caring for someone they previously traumatized and now have to bear being the thing that haunts their nightmares for years? OH, THE ANGST, TAKE ME NOW!!!

I think I get a little sad when people try to make Adaine and Aelwyn's relationship the same as most older and younger sister with abusive parents in media. Because it isn't. We don't have the typical "oldest daughter who tried to shield the youngest from abuse". To properly understand them we have to understand that Aelwyn was not only a golden child, but participated in Adaine's abuse. She mocked her the same as their parents, which is why when she tried to be sincere for a moment on the first day, Adaine didn't believe or trust her. She tried to kill Adaine in Freshman Year. She set the backup in her mind in a place she knew only Adaine would find because she trusted her to find it, but she never told Adaine out loud that she was anything other than what their parents said she was, and that's important! It's important that she never showed Adaine any actual affection despite clearly knowing how strong she actually was! She would never have changed if not for the fact that their parents' abuse turned on her when they could no longer touch Adaine after abandoning her.
And all of that is important because if you erase that, you erase who both of them are. Aelwyn's first instinct is always to protect herself and what she considers hers. It wasn't until Junior Year that Aelwyn considered Adaine hers. She's a good sister NOW. She's trying to show love to other people NOW. She openly admits that she struggles to put love into anything but her cats. Adaine choosing to forgive and love her shows Adaine's personal strength and compassion. It was not because Aelwyn was anything close to a good sister to her growing up. To quote the show itself, "Despite the fact that you have not earned, I do love you,"
#yeah!!!#yeah!!!! great post op!!!#Aelwyn abused Adaine! really badly#it was not them against their parents it was everyone ganging up on adaine#Adaine had all the right to hate her forever and she didn't#and that's what makes me insane

I think something the fandom should play more into is that Riz Gukgak is a CRIER. he is almost CONSTANTLY sobbing every time he is overwhelmed with emotions and if its not sobbing its throwing up.
#he was actually the last bad kid to canonically cry#not arguing with the point of this post#but these bad kids Cry!!

a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.
#my rule of thumb is if i mention a fic to a friend on discord#i HAVE to immediately go comment on it

I have yet to see anyone talking about Wealwell's playing card moment in episode 2--and look, I know it was a bit, okay? But it's Dimension 20, where bits are virtually indistinguishable from serious canon, and the only two things Wealwell has done to affect the plot so far are:
Tell the successful lie that gets them access to the ship
Throw a playing card with such prodigious finesse that he explodes a steampunk plane.
I'm just saying I think it'd be so funny if he continues to be pathetic and wildly competent in equal measure.
#people have been calling him the new gilear#and while he is a silly guy being dragged along#he doesnt have gilears pathetic bad luck#he's so solid. hes doing his own thing#hes just also. very air sick

Oh my god I finished (not really I gave up on the rendering) a half decent art piece?

Yes I wholeheartedly believe Adaine is paranoid enough to keep the sword of sight under her pillow girl has been kidnapped like twice and has a frog blanket

big fan of stories that, while undoubtedly being about the power of friendship, acknowledge that the power of incredible violence is just as important
the love was there. the love changed everything. the crowbar helped also
#fantasy high#specifically the scene where the power of love swayed Aelwyn into saving adaine#and then adaine punched their abuser to death#BOTH were needed

I mean I'll always promote my Property Of series. Where Adaine gets kidnapped/adopted by Kalvaxus as a child
As for navigating other fanfics I find that finding an author that you like and seeing what else they've written or bookmarked is a good place to start
also while im at it i have read a criminally small amount of fh fic since fhjy. everyone tell me your fav fics/promo your own work pls

Fans who erase a character's bad traits and all the awful things to do to make them nicer and more palatable vs fans who erase any sort of affection or kindness or humanity a character shows because they can't comprehend that "bad" people are still human beings with complex emotions

The real tragedy isn’t when a character dies. It’s when they survive—but they’re never the same. When the people around them keep waiting for them to “get better,” not realizing that this is better. That this is all that’s left.
