So, Mark, how did you like filming the Christmas special since you had to wear that suit? Also, how many pies did you have to eat during the filming?
What suit? It was relief to take off my corset. I have eaten seven million pork pies this morning and I’m still hungry.

What is your writing style/strategy when working together? How do you keep your ideas so fresh and manage to seamlessly bring the old, original Sherlock stories into the modern day?
Expensive hotels, all-in wrestling, watching the footie (a recent development) and tea.

Why the long break between each season? I've always wondered.
As Wilkie Collins said: make them cry, make them laugh, make them …………… wait.

Did you feel intimidated to take on such a classic source material and reinvent it in such a unique way? Did it feel like a natural direction to go, or were you wary about how carefully you needed to handle the material, especially given it's popularity and past incarnations?
We were just excited that we got to have go. And we approached it in the spirit of Doyle, and his famous telegram to one of his first adapters, William Gillette. ‘You may marry, murder, or do what you like with him.“

How much do you love plot twists?
Very much. No, wait, we hate them. No we love them. Oh, no Mark’s been shot. No, wait he’s the murderer. It turns out he died while faking his own death. Or was it the policeman …

As a massive Press Gang fan I was wondering if you ever knowingly made references to it in either Sherlock or Doctor Who? I think I've caught a few though that could be wishful thinking. Also, I'm a huge fan of your work and I hope to meet you one day!
I’m sure I did, but I can’t remember. Tell me what they are!

Hi! I believe Sherlock is one of the best TV series especially when it comes to storytelling and the adaptation of the characters to the 21st century. I wanted to ask you when do you decide that the script is ready? Do you a reach a point where you say "that's the final, no more changes" or is it possible to do last minute changes eg a line or two (right before the shooting)? Thank you!
Things keep changing but the script is not so much flexible as still “live", till the very final moments of post-production. There are so many variables, so many possible improvements, that it would foolish and arrogant to declare it finished when there’s still time to work.

Looking back, is there anything that you wish you could change about the series or that you wish you'd done differently?
You always second guess yourself, of course, but if something works on the scale of Sherlock, don’t argue with it.

Note
How much of Sherlock did you already have in mind before starting to shoot the first episode?
All 60 stories. As we regarded it as a restoration more than an update, Doyle was our bible.

What are you working on at the moment? Anything together?
Right now, at this very moment, we are ensconced in the English countryside, at a top secret hotel, writing Dracula.

How do you deal with harsh criticisms of your works?
You remember that the best thing is that people care. Indifference is what you fear.
