We know NDC is behind all this foiled coup issues - Abronye DC claims
Tumblr media
The Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe popularly known as Abronye DC has claimed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is behind the "attempted coup" to destabilize this country. The Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, in a statement released noted that, “On Friday, 20th September 2019, a joint security operation of personnel drawn from Defence Intelligence, CID and Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), conducted a successful operation which led to the arrest of three persons and the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from locations in Accra and Bawaleshie near Dodowa.” “The joint operation was to neutralize an elaborate plot targeted at the Presidency, and with the ultimate aim of destabilizing the country.” “The arrest and seizure come after fifteen (15) months of surveillance and gathering of evidence on the activities of the prime suspects and others.” The statement added. They include; Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm and his two accomplices – Mr. Ezor Kafui (a local weapon manufacturer) and Mr. Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu (aka BB or ADC). But in a statement issued and signed by the NPP's controversial chairman, Abronye DC, and copied to the media, he accused the NDC of being behind the coup plot. According to him, the NDC in a crunch meeting at John Mahama's residence planned to arrange lawyers for the three accused persons. "...Now, according to Information available to me and per my intelligence gathered, I can confidently say that big wings of the National Democratic Congress are behind this plot", the statement claimed. "I say so because, yesterday in a crunch meeting at John Mahama’s residence which saw in attendance high profiled persons of the NDC including Julius Debrah, Omane Boamah, etc... the NDC planned to arrange lawyers for the three accused persons", the statement added. According to the statement, "The NDC also planned to preach that, the government rather acted prematurely in concluding that the persons were planning a coup". Corruption is a problem in Ghana, That's why Ghana is not moving forward - Australian High Commissioner
Tumblr media
The Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Andrew Barnes has expressed shock at the level of corruption in Ghana, a nation dominated by Christians. To Mr. Barnes, corruption should not be an issue eating up a country which Christian population constitutes approximately 71.2% of the entire population. Christianity is the largest religion in Ghana followed by Muslim that makes up 17%, according to the 2010 census. Speaking at the launch of strategic plan of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition in Accra on Wednesday, Andrew Barnes pointed out that although he doesn’t believe in the existence of God, he knows “corruption is clearly against Christian teachings”. His comments comes barely a month after Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana, Ron Strikker suggested to Ghana to pursue what he termed a “Ghana Beyond Corruption”. “You need a good business climate to attract foreign investment…”, the diplomat said. Ghana scored 41 out of 100 points in the 2018 corruption perception index, ranking 78 out of 180 countries, according to Transparency International that gauged perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and business people. Mr. Barnes remarked: “As an atheist, it intrigues me that Ghana, as a strongly Christian country, corruption is such a problem in Ghana.” Read the full article

Let Work hard to will reduce poverty - Akufo-Addo to world leaders
Tumblr media
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged world leaders to focus their energies and resources on combating poverty, as their performance as governments will be judged by how successful they are able to reduce and eventually eradicate poverty in their respective countries. The President noted that poverty anywhere degraded everyone, whether he or she was found in the developed or developing world, and urged leaders of individual sovereign countries to bear the responsibility not only for reducing poverty but also creating prosperity for their citizens. Taking his turn to address the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, he said: “We know that our performance as governments will be judged by how successful we are in reducing and eventually eradicating poverty in our countries. “For us (in Africa), poverty is a daily reality that we live with and feel, for far too many of our people are burdened with it, and it robs us of the dignity that should be the inherent right of every human being.” The use of technology, access to education and the fight against illicit financial flows from the continent, among others, he said, provided Ghana and, indeed, Africa with clear paths towards winning the fight against poverty and lifting up the standard of living of their peoples. Rich, yet poor With the world dependent on minerals from Africa, President Akufo-Addo bemoaned the prevalent levels of poverty on the continent, largely resulting from the fact that Africa did not get a fair share of the wealth extracted from the continent. “I do not seek to blame outsiders for our problems, but since we are being urged to find multilateral solutions, I believe it is worth pointing out that unfairness in the economic order undermines the fight against poverty. Indeed, the flight of capital is continuing the external exploitation of Africa, represented by colonialism and imperialism,” he said. He called for more collaboration among the nations of the world to stop the illicit financial outflows from Africa which cost more than $50 billion annually, and stressed the need for the world to work together to “stop this rape of Africa”. AfCFTA The coming into effect of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), President Akufo-Addo noted, was a major collective effort by Africa to get to firmly grip the mastery of its own development. “It will be the world’s largest free trade area since the formation of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and will provide the vehicle for us to trade more among ourselves, offer an opportunity to exploit the abundant wealth and resources for the benefit of our peoples and give us protection in how to deal with other trading blocks,” he said. Education The President also said Ghana still believed the key to prosperity was quality education and had thus taken the step to invest more in that sector to safeguard the future of the country and its citizens to put them in a place to effectively compete with the world. “Where quality education is available, there is usually prosperity, and throughout the ages, education has been the most equitable source of providing opportunities and has provided the fastest and most reliable route out of poverty. “We, in Ghana, acknowledge that we need an educated and skilled population to be able to compete effectively in the world economy. We are, therefore, taking the brave step of spending on education a substantial part of our national revenue; indeed, a third of our nation’s budget,” he said. He said education must go in tandem with technology to accelerate the provision of quality education to as many people as possible. “Very soon, we may not have to enter classrooms nor even go to the hallowed grounds of the famous universities to gain access to the knowledge that used to be exclusively available in those institutions,” he said. While that was possible, President Akufo-Addo said, the benefits of those opportunities made possible by technology could only be derived with the provision of the appropriate infrastructure at the basic level. “We need to provide reliable electricity and Internet services for the people in our towns and villages, and then they can truly join in the benefits of the technology that brings quality education to all. We can then have a realistic expectation of a prosperous future,” he said. Read the full article

Ghanaians are suffering, reduce the fuel prices – Petroleum workers union begs government
Tumblr media
The National Secretariat of the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) of TUC (Ghana) has raised concerns the incessant increases in fuel prices and its impact on prices of other goods and services. According to the Union, Ghanaians are struggling as a result of the frequent hikes in fuel prices. In a statement, the Union reminded government to be mindful of the implications of these sharp increases in taxes on Ghanaians and take steps to relieve them. “The fuel price increase is coming from the many taxes and fees that are being levied on Ghanaians. The taxes are high and too many leading to a worsening of the living standards of Ghanaians. The tax on fuel alone is between 40%-45% of the fuel price. Government must immediately reduce the tax to lessen the burden on Ghanaian workers." “Fuel prices are being increased indiscriminately. This development does not bode well for the living conditions of workers, their families and Ghanaians in general and it must be halted”, the statement added. We call for decorous discussions about ending the suffering of workers and Ghanaians. Government must seek to fulfill its promise of making the lives of Ghanaians better. “We are calling for a reduction in the taxes to ease the difficulties of workers. We hope and believe that this piece will go a long way to send a signal to government on the appalling and harsh conditions faced by the Ghanaian worker and the society, in general, to enable it take a position to rectify them without delay." It emerged that, pump prices have shot up from the previous GHC5.19 per litre to about GHC5.39 for a litre representing a 3.7% jump in previous figures at the pumps. Energy think tank, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) attributed the recent fuel hike to the increase in some components of the energy sector levies. COPEC in the statement insisted that the fuel increases should be reversed to reduce the plights of petroleum users. Read the full article

This is how Kwame Nkrumah Circle traders punish thieves
Tumblr media
As Ghana looks for innovative ways to deal with her many problems, some traders at Odo Rice, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle have also found a more productive way to deal with common thieves in the area. What pertained in the past, by way of punishment to suspected thieves when they are unlucky to be apprehended was to either lynch them or doll out a few slaps to their faces. Those forms of punishments, as effective as they may be, are unproductive hence the decision by the residents to innovate. The first suspected thieve to benefit from this innovation was a young man who only gave his name as Kofi Yesu also known as Guy Guy. Yesu allegedly entered a shop near the Odo Rice area while the shop’s owner was outside taking part in a regular cleaning exercise that is organized on the day set aside for such purposes – Sanitation Day. Kofi Yesu succeeded in carrying a bag containing GHS 700.00 and an Iphone X cell phone, hid it beneat his dress as he lurked in wait for an opportunity to bolt. Luck, however, run out for Kofi Yesu when the shop owner suspected his movement and confronted him. To show that he was indeed a ‘guy’, Kofi Yesu spoke Hausa with a stern face that was expected to scare the shop owner. As fate will have it, the shop owner who also speaks fluent Hausa, replied Kofi Yesu with equal sternness amidst further questions. It was based on the questions that the traders who had now gathered around Kofi found out that all the Hausa he could speak were his first few words to the shop owner. As questions flew in from all angles, Kofi Yesu confessed to stealing the bag, which he brought out from under his shirt. According to an eyewitness who spoke exclusively to adomonline.com in a telephone interview, Kwame Destiny, at this point, the crowd called for his release so they could give him some beating but wise counsel prevailed as they agreed on a more productive punishment. The residents agreed that as the day was earmarked for sanitation, Kofi Yesu is made to desilt the drains, a punishment he gladly accepted and undertook with his bare hands albeit diligently. According to Destiny, the suspect told traders that he resided at Konkomba Market in Accra; therefore, when he was done with his punishment, the traders got him a motorbike with GHC 10.00 and bode him farewell with the advice that he sins no more.
