PROJECT 4: DOCUMENTARY
Concept: This project documents the contrast between street animals and those that live in homes, highlighting how different their lives and appearances are. Pets that live in houses are fed daily, while street animals survive on garbage and whatever leftovers they can find.
In the photo series of the street dogs, I focused on capturing their faces, where you can often see traces of the suffering and abuse they’ve likely endured. Some even appear a bit melancholic. In contrast, my cat looks much happier and more content.
I think the biggest challenge I faced was finding street animals that wouldn’t feel intimidated when I tried to get close to take photos. There was also the risk that they could react aggressively and attack me.
To handle this, I brought some food with me to make myself seem more friendly and approachable. I also made sure not to get too close, just in case they felt threatened and lashed out.
What I learned from this experience is that the conditions street animals live in are truly heartbreaking. Many are covered in wounds, severely undernourished, and their expressions show deep fear and exhaustion. That’s why it’s so important to keep fighting for animal rights and to support organizations that protect and care for animals living on the streets.

Mapping the Invisible
This is a documentary about what it’s really like to pour a solid reinforced concrete slab on site for a house.
The Creak of Steel
Tumblr media
The steel's already in place, tied by hand wire after wire like a cage ready to trap concrete. From below, the workers can hear the dry creak of the rebar settling under someone's weight. It’s a quiet sound, almost nothing, but everyone here knows it: metal talks when it’s under proper tension. The sky’s overcast, threatening rain, but holding back for now. Everything’s in a sort of limbo. In the distance, the cement truck operator yawns and checks his watch. The mixer sits still, waiting for the signal to pour a solid slab that’ll disappear under tile and time.
Slab in the Sun
Tumblr media
The concrete drops like thick, gray lava heavy but cooperative. Boots sink just enough to leave prints the vibrator erases right after. The orange vests flash like warning signs between rebar and skinny shadows. The sun burns your skin without a word steady, like an engine left running. The noise is a rough symphony: hoses buzzing, voices shouting back and forth, the constant “let’s go, let’s go!” echoing like a hammer. Just outside the frame, a soda bottle trembles on the edge of a step. No one’s thinking about poetry out here the slab’s setting, and it won’t wait. The job needs finishing.
Concrete Trowel
Tumblr media
The motor of the power trowel growls like a metal swarm, buzzing in the gut of the guy holding it. With every spin of the blades, it stirs the thick, humid air rising off the fresh concrete still warm from the chemical reaction kicking in. A few feet away, a smooth slab lies still, like a castaway on a gray island, forgotten for now. The worker in the orange hoodie isn’t thinking about much just keeping the weight steady and the rhythm right so the machine doesn’t bite into the slab. In the background, the trees sway, oblivious, like they don’t realize a home is being built here.
Going down the stairs
Tumblr media
The concrete’s still giving off heat. It came out smooth, even, no bubbles. I head down carefully the metal steps are hot, and the helmet’s pressing into my sweaty forehead. That thick smell hangs in the air: damp cement and dust. The mixer’s hum is still in my head, even though it’s been off for a while. Somewhere in the back, a badly tuned radio crackles, and a hammer someone forgot won’t stop clinking. I move slow not because I’m tired, just out of habit. Just outside the frame, a tipped over drum and a cut up bottle shade the tools.

PROJECT 3 PORTRAIT
Concept: The Destruction of the Soul My concept explores three distinct phases in which the soul is metaphorically destroyed, each represented by a different element: torn paper symbolizes the soul shattering, fire represents a soul reduced to ashes, and water conveys the feeling of a soul drowning.
The sequence also aims to illustrate how the destruction unfolds—starting with scratches, progressing to burns, and ultimately culminating in complete submersion in pain, leading to the soul’s total annihilation.

CHARACTER FACTORY
Bathed in the light filtering through the leaves, she stands with the quiet grace of something untouched by time, as if she belongs not just to this moment but to the very rhythm of the earth. The sun kisses her skin, lending it a golden warmth, a soft glow that seems to come from the reflect the light. Her hair, a cascade of soft waves, tumbles down her back, with a few loose strands slipping free from where they are gathered beneath a delicate scarf. The fabric, light as air, frames her face like the gentle embrace of dawn, accentuating the soft curve of her cheekbones, the quiet intensity of her gaze.
Her emerald eyes, vast and unhurried, seem lost in a world beyond the one before her, as if she is seeing something no one else can a place of memory, of longing, or perhaps of dreams yet to unfold. They hold the color of an open sky at dusk, shifting between clarity and depth, unreadable yet inviting. Her lips, neither fully smiling nor entirely still, hint at thoughts too private to share, a secret known only to her and the whispering breeze.
She moves without hurry, each gesture carrying the natural rhythm of someone deeply attuned to her surroundings. There is no excess, no unnecessary only the effortless elegance of presence. Her frame, slender yet unwavering, is rooted in the earth like a young tree bending but never breaking. The slight shift of her weight, one hip subtly tilted, a hand resting with graceful ease, exudes both confidence and a quiet sense of freedom. She is neither rigid nor careless she simply is, existing in a space where strength and softness intertwine.
Her clothing mirrors her essence: a loose-fitting pair of denim pants, their fabric worn and familiar, with subtle slits at the sides that catch the breeze, creating the illusion of motion even in perfect stillness. Her blouse, white and unadorned, carries an understated elegance, its simplicity amplifying the air of something otherworldly about her. Around her neck, a scarf of golden hues coils gently, like a remnant of the light itself, a thread woven from the sun and the rustling leaves.
The wind stirs around her, tugging at the edges of her clothing, lifting the hem of her blouse, sending strands of hair dancing against her cheek. And yet, she does not shift, does not waver. It is as if the air itself respects her stillness, choosing to dance around her rather than through her, as though she belongs to something greater something untouchable. Behind her, the foliage rises in a vibrant wall of green, neither framing her nor containing her, but blending with her, as if she is not merely passing through nature but an extension of it, a fleeting echo of something timeless.
Her voice, when it comes, is be soft but steady, carrying the cadence of water moving over stone gentle yet with a quiet insistence, a melody all its own. She would not waste words, nor would she rush to fill silence. Instead, she would let the spaces between her sentences breathe, knowing that meaning is often found in what is left unsaid. Her presence does not seek attention, yet it captures it effortlessly, like a wildflower standing alone in an open field unaware of its own beauty, yet impossible to ignore.
And in this moment, where the light shifts in golden fragments and the air hums with the quiet song of rustling leaves, she does not seem to be posing. She is not performing, not seeking to be seen. She is simply existing fully, wholly, and without pretense. It is as if time itself has slowed to observe her, holding its breath to let this instant stretch just a little longer, before it slips away like a whisper carried on the wind.

PROJECT 2 LANDSCAPE
Concept: The Blend of Nature and the City
My concept explores how the city merges with nature, creating a symbiosis between the urban and the natural. In my photography series, I capture the quiet fusion of these two worlds. These photographs reveal a landscape where the city no longer defines its limits but instead fades beneath the steady advance of vegetation.
Rather than depicting a conflict between the two, the series captures a peaceful coexistence where nature does not retreat but adapts, enters, and reclaims its place. It serves as a reminder that boundaries are fleeting and that, over time, the urban and the wild inevitably become one.

Landscape
 Among the Trees
Once again, I find myself among the trees, watching as the sun fades away, as if bidding farewell to the day. It feels so fleeting, witnessing time slip away like this. And yet, the trees, the sun, the clouds, and the sky seem untouched by it all unmoving, almost eternal.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how we take nature for granted, as if it will always be there for us, as if it’s endless, indestructible. Sometimes we barely notice it, other times we don’t appreciate it as much as we should. Maybe it’s because of how vast and imposing it is compared to us, how small we are as individuals in the face of something so immense.
And I do feel small dwarfed by the towering trees around me, as if they were bars blocking my view of the sky. Even the clouds seem to conspire, covering the sun as if trying to pull me away from its light, reminding me just how insignificant I am in the grand scheme of nature. And yet, instead of fear or uncertainty, all of this brings me peace.
I notice the wild chaos of the vegetation, growing unpredictably, almost at random. And still, within this chaos exist harmony, the trees spilling like black ink against the deep blue sky, clouds floating like waves or sea foam. The world feels muted, wrapped in peace after the rain. There’s something so solemn about it, something that pulls me into the present.
Landscape Perception
After writing about the landscape, I just realized how fast my life moves sometimes. I forget to pause, to take a moment and simply look around to truly appreciate nature. I guess it’s something I take for granted. I’m usually in Cumbayá, where nature is much more present than in Quito, and in a way, I’ve grown used to it.
In the moment, I didn’t fully notice it I was just letting myself flow with the atmosphere but now I see how the layers of trees and clouds almost create barriers between me and the sky, between me and the sunlight. And also, because of the backlighting in the photos, the vegetation looks like spilled ink crashing against a canvas of blue and white.
Finally, as I wrote about the landscape, I found myself being honest about how nature makes me feel. It brings me peace, yet at the same time, it demands a certain respect. The sky and the trees have always been there for me, and they will most likely still be there long after I’m gone. That thought makes me feel fleeting, but at the same time, I’ve realized that nature, despite existing far longer than I have, is also fleeting in its own way.

The Impact of Materials on Acoustics in Music Creation
The materials used in the construction of a space have a significant influence on noise filtration and the prevention of delays or reverberations. Poor acoustic design can create frustrating situations, such as hearing our neighbors’ conversations or, conversely, disturbing others when playing loud music at a party.
For example, in cities, noise pollution is so extreme that it can feel overwhelming. In buildings with too many windows and inadequate insulation, external sounds easily penetrate indoor spaces. I noticed this today during my piano class, where the classroom is not soundproof and has a large window facing an area where activities like yoga take place. The noise from outside created constant distractions, making it difficult to focus.
However, in the practice rooms at Com, these distractions do not occur. The materials used effectively isolate external noise, creating an environment where I can fully concentrate, immerse myself in the music, and experience a natural creative flow. At the same time, this acoustic insulation ensures that the sound I produce inside does not disturb others who may be studying or engaged in different activities.
Concept: The right materiality can enhance acoustics, creating an environment that fosters deep concentration and an uninterrupted creative flow, especially in activities like music. Properly selected materials help minimize external distractions and control sound reflections, allowing individuals to fully immerse themselves in their creative process without disruptions.

PROJECT 1 - TELEPORTATION
In a realm where teleportation bends reality, a young African voyager traverses cosmic landscapes, each with skies painted in surreal hues and atmospheres pulsing with alien energy. Draped in ancestralelegance, she carries a vessel brimming with the essence of life water, the most sacred of all treasures. Through neon-lit voids and aurora-drenched horizons, she searches for the perfect world, a sanctuary where her offering will awaken a new existence.

Blurred Motion
I’ve always been fascinated by the way light lingers just before it fades away. That’s why I wanted to experiment with the tiny red trails and the flame of a candle. They feel like stars in the air to me, clinging to time as if resisting the approaching darkness. It’s an ephemeral glow, almost a reminder of the fire that once burned brighter. As I watch its slow disappearance, I can’t help but reflect on how, even in its final breath, light continues to shine. It doesn’t vanish all at once; instead, it bids farewell, leaving behind a trace of beauty, an echo of its existence. To me, it becomes a subtle reminder that even at the very end, a spark remains. A final affirmation that it was there, illuminating, if only for a moment. Using blurred motion in these photographs stretches that moment, making it last just a little longer than it truly does.

Minimum depth of field
In the first photo, you can see a tiny bee resting on the tip of my finger. The contrast is striking, my size compared to hers, my finger holding her delicate little body. To me, bees represent pure willpower, the determination to defy the impossible. Their wings seem incredibly thin, fragile at first glance, yet they carry them through the air, allowing them to fly. The second photo, on the other hand, is one I took some time ago. I love how, amidst the contrast of the dark and green background, the pink of the flower stands out. The way the flower emerges from the steel mesh makes it even more contrasting. The last photo is of my cat, Nina. It’s one of my favorites because she looks so relaxed on the dining chairs. And honestly, I love my cat so much.

Frozen motion
Fire never stops; it’s never the same from one second to the next. It consumes, transforms, rises, and fades in a constant flow of movement. And yet, here, in these two photographs, it seems frozen in time as if, for a moment, it had stopped devouring wood or paper. But if you look closer, the fire is still alive in tiny fractions of movement. It cuts, fragments, and twists into shapes that defy its own nature. It’s not a still moment, but a sum of motions, captured just before vanishing into the air.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Difficulties and Limitations
I think my main limitation was capturing photos that use frozen motion since my camera isn’t capable of taking that kind of shot, and my phone has similar limitations. However, I realized that it can still capture more subtle movements, like fire.
On the other hand, when it came to effects like motion blur, using an iPhone made it much easier, as phones now allow for that type of photography. That said, it was still a bit challenging because I struggled to get a shot that I actually liked and that also looked good with the effect. This was my first time trying to take these kinds of photos, so I wasn’t sure how to do it properly.
As for the shallow depth of field effect, I found it the easiest to achieve. Even though my camera doesn’t create a perfectly crisp blur, I was still able to take good photos with relative ease.
When it came to taking a more conceptual photograph, I honestly struggled quite a bit. I spent a lot of time thinking about how to create an image that tells a story. One that reflects who I am and what I think. Finding the right framing and balance in a photo is still a challenge for me since I’m just starting to learn. This class has made me realize that photography has its own techniques and requires a lot of practice to achieve good results.
