Project Inspiration

Both Hollow Knight and Dead Cells were the main inspirations for my game, because they are both set in a decayed and old place that is set apart from the rest of civilization with only a few other sane adventurers, merchants or just people, still living there.
I wanted to make a game like this because I heavily enjoyed playing these games and wanted to show that by making a similar game in this project.

More Examples of HP bars and icons

In Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, your hp is shown as several little red hearts that go down by quarters, however, as shown in the image, Minibosses and Bosses have the bar style of HP as it's much easier to put a bar in place than having icons, It's also better for bosses to have this style of HP as it can mislead the player on how much health they have and in turn, how many hits are needed to take them down

Health Systems - Icons / hearts

In Hollow Knight your health is shown as several masks, each representing 1 hit (unless an enemy does double damage), I much prefer this style of HP bar and is why I decided to use this style in my own game because it allows you to accurately gage how many more hits you can take and if you need to retreat or not

In Owlboy, your hp total is represented by a bar, and how much remaining hp you have is shown by the coloured filling in the bar, Personally, I don't like this style of hp as I feel it can be a bit inaccurate when trying to determine how many hits you can take before you die.

Dead cells really throws everything at you by the fact thaat there is a hp bar, scroll tally, potion fullness weapons, items mutations, collectables coins, cells and a minimap. Personally I quite like it, i like having all my information viewable

HUDs - Mirrors Edge

Mirrors Edge has basically no UI, this allows for more fluid gameplay without a static HUD to mess up with the flow. Personally, I don't like it as I like having all of the important information at hand instead of it being hidden

The Mario HUD is very complex, There are HP bars for you and your companion, Bars for Coins and other collectables, D-Pad controls for the D-pad, All in all, the HUD is very good and very Informative but I don't like it that much, It's too all over the place in a bad way

Dave the diver is a game about sea exploration, the colour palette doesn't restrict the design of the game, but there are certain blue hues when underwater to mimic the colour distortion in real life.
