Well, after I saw this picture, it inserted a story idea into my head. There's a dialogue line from MK11 that's flavored a lot of my work, subtly: Sonya: You graduate from the academy? Sonya: Nope. Got my degree in marine biology. Sonya: That was my dream. and Jessica McNamee being in The Meg and later the 2021 MK movie did not help the situation. So! So, in the grand tradition of someone old enough to remember songfics, I made a play Cageblade playlist on Spotify.

Sonya Blade has any number of flaws, but one of them is that she can't say no to a challenge. Recovering from an injury, the one-time worlds champion figure skater would rather be anywhere than on the ice again, but she has to prove her friend wrong—and gets more than she bargained for, but strangely, just what she didn't know she needed.

Make sure to tag your posts with #cagebladeweek (within the first 5 tags, thanks algorithm) and/or @ this blog so we can find and reblog everything.

Participate one day or every day - it doesn’t matter! If you post on an external site (AO3, FFN, DeviantArt) please at least drop a link here so we can reblog it and promote it. There will be an AO3 Collection started closer to the date.

2) Can I write an OT3 fic?: The mods support polyamorous shipping, however this week is for CageBlade specifically. We'd like that contributions focus on Sonya & Johnny's relationship.

3) Well, what if I write a breakup fic and have them hook up with other people? It's still CageBlade, right?: Not for this event. This week is a celebration of CageBlade and how awesome they are together. Want to give us some hurt/comfort, breakup & reconciliation, sure! Whump? Go wild! But we want to see them coming together and realizing how great they are as a couple.

4) What if I don’t like any of the prompts and have ideas of my own?: Then go ahead and write them! Want to explore their friendship before they hooked up? Want to write all AUs? Do you have some art ideas you’re just itching for an excuse to post and draw? The world is your oyster!

✍️ PSA for Fandom Etiquette: Crediting Fanfic Writers When Inspired by Their Work

Strap in fandom creators! Let’s talk about crediting etiquette.

If you’re an artist creating a piece inspired by a fanfic from an AO3 author, please credit the writer. It matters more than you think!

Take for instance — Mr. Frog writes a fanfic. 🐸 It takes him months to write (because pencils are hard to hold). He stays up late, pouring his little, three-chambered heart into it. There’s this one scene—character A says, “Don’t look at me like I’m something worth saving.” Then a few weeks later, a big artist in that fandom posts a gorgeous piece—same pose, same scene, that exact line in the caption. It blows up. Thousands of likes. Reblogs. People crying in the tags.

But the fic? No credit. No link. No mention.

And poor Mr.Frog, who worked so hard—is just… watching it happen. Watching his words float down the internet like they came from nowhere. Like they were never his to begin with.

That’s the kind of thing that makes a writer stop sharing their work.

It hurts. And yet, it’s so easily avoidable.

Here’s how…

Proper crediting looks like:

— “Inspired by [fic title] by [author] on AO3”

— Tagging the author (if they’re on Tumblr)

— Linking to the original fic (when platform allows)

— Crediting on ALL platforms.

Even if it’s just a scene or a vibe you loved, a simple shoutout goes a long way. 📣✨

Fanfic writers pour hours, days, months, and even years into their work. When art is directly inspired by that (whether it’s a visual of a specific moment or a character interpretation) the writer deserves to be acknowledged, just like any other creator.

Why it’s important:

— It shows respect for another creator’s labor.

— It builds trust and kindness within the fandom.

— It prevents misunderstandings about the origin of certain ideas or scenes.

This isn’t about policing creativity. This is about transparency, collaboration, kindness, and giving credit where it’s due. We’re all here to celebrate stories together, so let’s make sure everyone feels seen for what they bring to the table. ☺️
