MAJOR SAESON 8 SPOILERS:

I'm seeing another of push back on Tim Minear for his decision to kill of a main character, and his defense of making it realistic is kind of weak given everything about the show, but I don't think he was wrong for doing it.

I live for the Booby Nash Captain/Dad moments but recently the show has become so repetitive and satgnat. Despite the fact that characters were going through something, we never saw any development. We saw Eddie leave and apologize, but how did he change from that? What behavior is he exhibiting that stems from what he learned from losing Chris aside from standing up to his parent? Buck's break up was pushed to the side AGAIN and at this point feels like despite his changes he's always in the same situation. Maddie and Chim were traumatized in this recent season and we got one episode of the struggle afterwards, and nothing else. There is no risk in the show and the characters don't Have to grow.

Killing off an MC gives them a platform to really have characters arcs that make a difference to their personalities and how they react to situations. I think Grey's Anatomy took that concept too far with everyone except the MC being killed off, but in a profession with real risks like that it's important to address it. I feel like 9-1-1 Lonestar manges to do that pretty well and even the loss of side characters close to the MCs still cause significant changes in their lives and reactions.

Anyway feel free to tell me if u agree of disagree, I just felt bored with the show recently and figured that was why, but after this I feel more invested now🤷‍♀️

I’m so heart broken because of Tommy and buck breaking up. I’ll miss them together so much. Honestly that’s why I made this blog because of them now they’ve broke up I just don’t know what to do. I’ll still post them. Just miss them so much rn!🥺😔

If this Tommy and Buck breakup is for good I’m speechless. I refuse to believe Evan Buckley will simply give up this amazing relationship just because Tommy is scared. Yes Tommy had a valid reason to be scared, the writers should make Buck fight for him and show him he wants this relationship equally as badly as he does. Did the writers totally forget what Evan is actually like? He doesn’t give up. I am absolutely devastated at this breakup, Tommy was perfect for Buck and Buck was perfect for him. I hope we haven’t seen the end of this duo because they’d deserve so much more time together and a future.

Maybe it’s because I’m a Hawaii five-0 fan, but I can’t see Buck and Eddie as romantically written after watching Steve and Danny. I know they’re different shows, but it’s night and day even with some similarities.

(Warning for very small, vague spoilers. I’m halfway through S10 of Hawaii 5-0 so no spoilers for S10 please. Also I highly rec H50)

McDanno:

Characters always commenting on their relationship. “Mom and dad” “parents” “married”

Buddie:

2 comments on their relationship. Online stream viewers, Elf. Both in the earliest seasons for Eddie.

McDanno:

Takes care of Danny’s kids. Kisses them on the head. Tucks them into bed. Says I love you multiple times. Steve rescues Danny’s daughter from multiple highly dangerous situations and is openly distraught about it. Calls Danny’s daughter “my girl.” Brings Danny’s kid into Steve’s life, even when he’s in a relationship.

Buddie:

Takes care of Chris on fewer ~on screen~ occasions. Openly distraught when saving him on one the one occasion the show gave. Does obvi 100% love Chris and spends time with him, but it’s seen less on screen due to the nature of the show.

McDanno:

Danny calls Steve “babe”. Multiple times. An episode. Steve calls (and refers to) Danny “Danno” a family nickname.

Buddie:

Contrary to popular opinion, Buck has never called Eddie “Eds” nor do they regularly use any other cute nicknames for each other.

Mcdanno:

Treated in the show as a romantic pairing when they’re both not in relationships, and even when they are. In most episodes. In a fantasy sequence (no spoilers) they literally take pictures with a certain child and grow old together. They cuddled on the couch. They were roommates. They’ve pretended to be a gay couple. They touch each other all the freaking time: arms, shoulders, hands, lower back (it was a joke but also not), head. Have slow-ish danced together. Eat breakfast together while sitting on the counter. They’d save each other no matter what it takes. They went on a couples retreat. Couples counseling. They say I love you constantly, like once they started saying it they just kept saying it. They’ve given literal pieces of each other to the other (hard to not spoiler that so kept it vague)

Buddie:

They aren’t treated like a romantic pairing in every episode. At most they say the other always invites the other and they’ve been seen together in the end of episode wrap ups. The couch theory would’ve been a great time to dig into stuff. They’d save each other, but because of the show it’s not nearly the same level of involvement. Have never said I love you (correct me on that if I forgot). They’re treated as best friends who are clearly very much in each other’s lives, but they didn’t push the line into it being romance.

Mcdanno:

They’re literally intertwined in each other’s lives. Like financially, physically, emotionally, career-wise. We know how much they’re involved with each other even when the other isn’t there. Other characters will bring them up. They can’t have storylines without the other being involved in some way.

Buddie:

They’re in each other’s lives legally, emotionally, and career-wise. Though, they can have separate storylines that don’t involve the other.

McDanno:

Talk about the hard stuff a lot. Their lives, feelings, relationships, sex lives.

Buddie:

Talk about the hard stuff less. When there’s monumental stuff they do, but it’s rarer, but the show is also less dark and has less episodes.

Mcdanno:

Can read each other’s minds and body language in and out of work: People comment on it.

Buddie:

They can read each other. Mostly at work. Nobody ever comments beyond their good work.

McDanno:

Called each other “brother” a few times and it didn’t kill the non-platonic vibes.

Buddie:

Called each other “brother” once, and if done again, it would kill any romantic vibes.

In all:

They’re different shows. H50 has about 25 episodes a season and is a different genre of show to 911. But the relationships, the two men, divorced, kid(s), work together, is similar, though drastically different.

McDanno never went cannon. I can watch the show and see it both romantic and like an amazing bromance. It’s not a far grasp to see the romance.

Who knows about Buddie going canon, the show is still on air. But it reads like a very deep friendship, a great bromance. The romance stuff isn’t there. Do I think it could be? Yeah, but they have to put it in by choice and not leave it to interpretation. As of now? Nothing that can be 100% read as romantic.

Gotta be honest, the forced pearl clutching regarding Tommy in the begins episodes has gotten ridiculous. Genuine question, when’s the last time y’all actually watched those begins episodes outside those isolated scenes. Some people are acting like he called hen and chim every slur in the book, when that couldn’t be further from the truth like are yall fr?? He was dismissive of chimney at best, but that’s just because Chim wanted to be best friends with him immediately. That’s not Tommy’s personality and not the kind of environment that Gerard fostered. Which Eli later explained. And in the end they became genuine friends and Tommy apologized for being a dick earlier and shared some personal stuff about himself to Chim. In Hen begins, again he was dismissive but mostly because Gerard was standing over his shoulder being the bigot he is. Tommy was receptive to Hen’s ideas on those calls (mudslide and car accident) but was scared to go against Gerard (for reasons we now know). Tommy was part of reporting Gerard and getting him removed. And in Bobby begins they were all friends. They regularly got drinks together and talked. Tommy was a coward but he wasn’t this racist misogynistic homophobe some of yall want him to be. I’m begging yall to watch the canonical scenes and not some skewed version you have in your head. His “behavior” was less than desirable but all of these characters are flawed and the sooner some of yall realize that the happier you’ll be. Hen cheated on her wife with her drug addict ex a couple of episodes into the show. Bobby is responsible for the deaths of 148 people. Eddie cheated on his gf with a doppleganger of his dead wife. Buck cheated on his gf and instead of telling her about it asked her to move in with him. Athena took the side of the cops when her family was wrongfully pulled over and put at gun point. All of these characters have flaws and guess what they all learn from their mistakes and come out the other side better people. Stop acting like you actually care about a comment Tommy made and just say you don’t want him with Buck. Because that’s what this is really about.
