The ball makes a thunderous noise as it smacks the target mat she’s set up for herself in the backyard.  Strike. A pile of already thrown balls lay disarrayed, scattered all over the grass with an equal measure of force behind their final resting spot.  With a sigh, she wipes the sweat that’s trailing down her temple, another hot, humid day in San Diego, the sun refusing to let up despite a pandemic that had her fleeing outdoors to the safe reprieve of the yard.

“I told you not to fall in love with me...” 100-Word Drabble

“I told you not to fall in love with me.”

Ginny almost fell under the mystical power that was Mike Lawson’s kisses. Her fingers spread across either of his bearded cheeks, pressing him closer to her. Her eyes closed and she felt the instinctive way her knees fell apart.

“Wait.” A frown crossed Ginny’s face as she pulled Mike back in order to look at him. “No you didn’t.” Her tone had to be dripping of indignation.

Mike turned him face into her left hand and pressed a kiss there.

“No you didn’t!” Ginny repeated. “In fact- in fact- you specifically said, ‘One day, Baker, you’re going to fall in love with me.’”

She could feel his lips spread into a wide smile.

“I do have the best ideas, don’t I?” he murmured before turning back to look her in the eye.

Ginny melted, just a little.

“Yeah,” she sighed. “Sometimes you do.”

100-Word Drabble Prompts

Okay, this one was 3 times the length I was shooting for, but whatever. 

“I’d say I’m sorry, but I’m not.”

Mike squeezed his eyes shut, his lips thinning and just about disappearing off his face. It was better to focus on putting all his energy there. If he did that, then it was easier to ignore the way his legs had just flipped over his head while he landed with a force on his back in the hard=packed dirt. He couldn’t hold in the grunt as his arm flopped out to the side.

“Damn,” he muttered, his fingers wiggling in the air, the baseball noticeably missing. Mike scrunched his entire face at that acknowledgment, and tried not to think too hard on how many people had been casually watching the former Padres catcher miss a particular embarrassing catch thrown by the love of his life. “Damn.”

Mike heard the crunch of grass close to his ear. By the time he opened an eye…

“Mike,” Ginny breathed out, crouching down beside him.

He looked passed her, and found himself muttering another curse as park-goers tried to nonchalantly take in the spectacle of him flat on his back.

“I’d say I’m sorry,” Ginny started, a lack of sincerity in her voice.

Mike felt Ginny’s hands grasp his arm in an attempt to help him up. There was a smirk on her face and her eyes were doing that devilish twinkling thing.

“But I’m not,” she finished with a shrug.

Mike almost rolled his eyes. It probably would’ve been better than harping on the twinge he now felt in his back. Ginny was strong enough that he was able to let her carry some of his weight as he stood up.

“Now that,” he said assuring, dusting himself off, “I believe.”

Her laugh was cute, but annoying…

“Now where’s that damn ball?”

Ginny pointed across from him. “Over there, old man.”

How did I come to the point of torturing myself with watching Bawson fanvids this late at night?

Well, this moment popped up, and after already having the epilogue of WaM on my mind due to the famous club scene I’d just seen...

I instantly caught a case of feels...

“He may have been more willing, but I’m much better at it,” Mike assured her, staring directly into her face. “I saw him over here with you.” He lifted his shoulder just slightly.

“I bet you did,” Ginny said, her eyes growing a bit wide before she laid her head against Mike’s shoulder.

Mike ignored the dig at him, deciding to take a deep breath and resting his cheek against her head.

‘He seemed just as nervous and excited as the first time you danced with him.”

Ginny nodded. “I remember that night.”

“Where you wanted me to be jealous?”

“Uh-huh.”

Mike found himself smirking again while letting his arm hug her tighter while his other hand  roamed over her back.

“This is nice, Mike,” Ginny whispered after a moment.

“Nice?”

She nodded again. “I wasn’t asking for a lot-”

“Because clearly you’re not getting a lot,” Mike cut in drily.

Ginny raised her head from his shoulder and looked right at him. Her smile was small, but so very genuine as she seemed to see right through him.

“I literally have everything that I didn’t know I could have in life, everything that I didn’t even realize I wanted.” Ginny sucked her bottom lip into her mouth for a moment. “And I have that- have everything- with you, Mike.” She paused, shaking her head. “I love my life. And I love you so much.”

That sounds as annoyed/exasperated/ticked off as I feel when I think about the single 10-episode season of Pitch that we got. Kudos to MPG for being that transparent. I’m enjoying The Passage, but I wish I’d had him in Pitch for these years instead...

Mike’s frown deepened as he shut the kitchen cabinet with more force than strictly called for.

He squatted with a groan and a creek of his knees and opened the drawer beneath the oven.

He should’ve known better.

“Baker!” He yelled. He tried to hold back a wince as he got up from his crouched position but didn’t quite manage to make it happen according to Ginny’s reaction.

She ambled into the room and pointed at him. “Why’s your face look like that? What���s wrong?”

His frown deepened. “How do you live like this?” he asked as he motioned around the kitchen. “Where are your knives? Where are you forks that aren’t in plastic wrap with shitty little take out napkins? Where are your pots and pans? How am I supposed to cook us dinner?”

That's the moment you open up a new document, jot down those ideas that swirling around in your head, and then go from there. That's even if it's days, weeks, or a month after. Because... guess what?? The Bawson/Pitch fandom is just THAT great, and they will love it no matter how much time has gone by. (This is coming from someone who just wrote the epilogue of her one multi-chapter Bawson fic, and loved noting the new kudos and comments after ten months.)

Not only did I finish my Pitch Secret Admirer fic before the due date, it also drew me back into reading some Bawson fanfic. AND I’ve finally began writing the epilogue for Walk A Mile (With You Beside Me). A little over 2,000 words just today. It won’t be too much longer. Maybe 1,000 or so more, Like... it hasn’t been a complete year, but it’s almost been that long. I’m happy I’m finally getting nearing the end...

Well, I just watched this like 20 times in a row. By the end, there was a tear in my eye, faintly devastated that this cast was torn apart and I only got 1 season of Pitch.
