the two of them are fractured souls -- similar in ways that may not be obvious to the untrained eye . mary , like her namesake , has survived the ones she loved . therese , cecelia , bonnie , lux . . . all of them , gone . and now she lives on time both borrowed and unwanted . quentin holds that same aching grief within . mary senses it , finds comfort in the silence of being around someone else in this limbo : they both should be dead .
