It would make sense to me if Lake just never contacted Tulip ever, but it also makes sense to me for Lake to eventually be interested in friendship with her once they feel secure enough in their own identity, and I think that should happen. Because like some of the only things Tulip and Lake have in common is that they both have rocks in their head and can be really mean when they get upset and I think they should have a huge fight in front of Jesse because that would be the worst thing that could happen to him and that’s funny.
#i’m envisioning them all at lunch and he’s trying to enjoy his fries but things are gradually getting heated#and then one of them busts out the ‘what is THAT supposed to mean’ and suddenly Jesse is in hell#Jesse sipping Coke and willing his soul to leave his body as Lake struggles to stick to their indoor voice#Jesse avoiding eye contact with the waiters#poor boy#what are they fighting about? idk#probably something stupid that is a Secret Metaphor for deeper problems#<- op youre a genius and i love you. this is hilarious. giggling and kicking my legs rn

Tulip's game design hobby is good as characterization for her as main character of her own story. Game design is based on strictly logical computer programming, but it's also a creative pursuit that requires thinking about how other people are going to experience and react to the work. She thinks in logical and often rigid patterns, but her problem-solving can get creative when she doesn't get hung up on forcing things to work in a way that makes immediate sense to her, and she seems pretty introverted but really likes helping people and can be warm and understanding. And all those traits are fundamental to her character arc and the story of season one.
But the game design thing is also really good for making her a foil to One-One. Tulip is already written as someone he can understand and relate to - logical, wants to fix things, always well-meaning but sometimes condescending. And then their first bonding activity is playing together in the grid car, making a bunch of block structures. They have similar creative pursuits. I mean, when One-One makes a car that he wants people to engage with in a certain way, especially puzzle cars that have intended solutions, that's a lot like game design. Video game metaphors come naturally when talking about the train. Denizens as NPCs, those train orbs as assets. Lake hitting the invisible walls in the wasteland. The art gallery car being unbalanced. OH I JUST REALIZED the engine. Like a game engine? Like Unity? The engine is the space with the tools the conductor needs to make cars, just like a game engine helps developers make games. Dang, I don't know if that was on purpose, but that's a good pun.

Maladaptive deeply held belief: nobody could ever love me. Im going to die alone
Positive counterthought: maybe someone has an exceptionally rare form of mental illness that would cause them to make the grave mistake of wanting to fuck me

i don’t think people understand how much of life is grief. not just people dying, but losing the version of yourself you thought you’d become. grieving the city you had to leave. the friends you lost not in argument, but in silence. the summer that will never come back. the feeling that maybe you peaked at 12 when you were reading books under the covers and believing in forever

I'm high as fuck at medieval times and trying so hard to look normal. My friend pointed at a QR code and went "What is the meaning of this Rune..." and I almost threw up trying not to laugh

FUCK
I can’t believe I never posted this :| happy super late birthday to book 2. The drawing is actually a re-draw of some fanart I made when I first became obsessed with the show. I seriously don’t know who I’d be without this show. Probably someone who doesn’t talk about cartoons like a rabid animal. This show, but specifically book 2 has been so formative for me and I will forever be grateful for the lessons it taught me. The friends I made in this fandom have been some of the coolest people. Anyway, I’m sorry I’m super late
