Wait, autism and Asperger's are the same thing? :o Where can I read more about this?
I don’t have any recommendations on where you can read about the history of autism and about Asperger’s and such, but basically in the 1940s a guy named Hans Asperger (a guy with Nazi ties, aka a Nazi) did a lot of work researching autism (which was not totally a thing yet, it kinda was but not really) and so the science people took his research (and the research of some other scientists) and named the disorder after him, Asperger’s Disorder. Asperger’s was technically a disorder separate from autism, but it was just autism but “better” because to be diagnosed with Asperger’s you had to have autism but also you had to be smart. This is also where the terms “high-functioning” and “low-functioning” came in to play, if you were high-functioning you had Asperger’s, if you were low-functioning you had regular autism (which is why these terms are bad, it makes it seem like high-functioning is somehow better than low-functioning when it’s not, it’s just ableist). But in 2013 the CDC was like “Hey, uh, Asperger’s and autism are literally the same thing” so in the DSM-V they combined them into Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and said people diagnosed with Asperger’s Disorder were to be given an updated diagnosis of ASD. But therapists still diagnose people with Asperger’s for some reason and so it makes people think that Asperger’s is different from ASD, some people think it’s a subcategory, some people think it’s autism lite, and some people think it’s just not even related to ASD.

Hey guys, just as like a heads up or whatever, there’s no difference between autism and Asperger’s. Asperger’s is not a subcategory of autism, it’s just the outdated diagnosis. If you were diagnosed with Asperger’s you have the exact same autism as everyone else.

As disabled members of the lgbt community we should be celebrating marriage equality, right? but unfortunately us disabled people who rely on government support to survive risk losing everything and becoming totally financially reliant on our partners if we marry or even move in together.

no offense but the sooner you all realise cringe culture is like, thinly veiled superiority complex and targets almost exclusively young people or people who aren’t neurotypical, the better

all you have to say is something like “i dont personally really wanna watch this persons content because theyve been really weird in the past and made comments that make me uncomfortable” and people will take off and throw their clown shoes at you and honk about how cancel culture is toxic

It’s so annoying how Autism Parents™ say neurodiversity supporters want to erase nonverbal autistic people with extensive support needs.
No, we don’t.
We want them to be treated with the same dignity and privacy granted to neurotypical able-bodied people.
We want to protect them from having their embarrassing moments being turned into a voyeuristic online shitshow without their consent.
We want to protect them from people who don’t value their lives or their humanity because we know they can’t protect themselves.
But if all you take from that is “you’re just pretending this ‘side of the autism spectrum’ doesn’t exist” then that says you’re proving that you think it’s all about you and see your child as a prop to gain Internet Pity Points.
Some may call you heroes.
But autistic people can see what you really are– villains.

anyway just a quick fuckin reminder that endos are blatantly disrespecting trauma survivors and disregarding everything that we’ve been thru and what we’ve been saying, so far as to completely ignore what education trauma survivors have provided for endos and honestly? that’s fucking sickening.

1.Exotrauma isn´t real 2.Endogenic/quiogenic/natural/whatever shit label you decide to invent next systems arent real 3.Pedophiles are not LGBTQ+ 4.It´s disgusting to say youre “endogenic” (etc.) or have “exotrauma” and I wish you some of my trauma memories if you want them so badly.

Full offense, but if you state to be a system that formed without trauma youre not only being ridiculous and ignoring scientific facts, but youre also pretty much minorizing all the pain we had to go through to become so many, as apparently it is something everyone just develops if they want to and taking away safe spaces and resources meant for trauma survivors not roleplaying 13 year olds. It´s incredibly rude and hurtful and you please keep away from me.

Unfollow me right now if you think it’s okay to go anon and send death threats or tell people to kill themselves.
I’m not okay with people doing that and I don’t want to associate with people who do that.
Anon hate in any form is NOT OKAY.

so i had a discussion today at school w friends about many reasons why 13 reasons why (netflix) is so terrible and the big one we talked abt was misrepresentation of mental illness. everyone agreed!
so then i mention that split/glass are. absolutely harmful to people with DID/OSDD bc it just demonizes them and encourages people to think of people with the disorder are “”scary””.
and suddenly, it’s
“well i like the concept of split and glass.”
“well i dont see it that way.”
“well it’s a good horror movie.”
like no!! just bc its not YOUR mental illness means you stop pointing out how cruel it is when theres movies like this.
if you wanna talk about misrepresentations of mental illness in media and how harmful they can be, you talk about ALL of them, not just the ones that you decide are important.
