What an unusual stationery shop?
An art work
Silver Stationery Shop (銀の文房具) is a vintage stationery shop which is including all stationery from the 50s to 90s. All products are not allowed to sell because all of this stationery is a part of an art work. “It is an art work to me” the curator of this exhibition, Joel affirmed. Silver Stationery Shop is unusual because it is not about commercial business but the society. Joel hopes that this art work can bring the public attention and explore the topic about our history and culture.
Be brave to start and be strong to finish
This shop includes fun and chill. You may be surprised and also inspired by every corner. Every corner will recall your pieces of memories. However, it is not easy to have an old style shop in Hong Kong. What’s more is this shop is only for art sake. Joel told us it is really difficult from his first step. He started to collect the vintage children stationery from 1986. This collection cost him 30 years. He mentioned whenever the process of collection or finding a suitable place to hold the exhibition is full of difficulties. The toughest point is the sustainability of this shop and all the values about the shop. Joel planned to apply some funding as he would like to extend the shop to the field of education. “I hope the shop can bring a possibility to the students who are finding their way.” Joel said. He mentioned that a lot of students may not be talented in academic but art, they may not know how big is the possibility of an art work. He said many students may think art can not earn money etc. He wants to encourage students who have a dream in art. That is the main vision that he finally wants to see. The stationery can hand down to generations.
History brings a better future
This stationery shop loads a lot of history. Every product may have a story about Hong Kong. The memories that recalled by the shop is not just an emotional action but a practical action. For instance, people in Japan and Taiwan always mentioned about history, memories because they want to have a breakthrough. Stationery in Japan is matched by old style but new technology. Joel believes the history can stay with our future, even a better future.

90s Memories
“Remember when, I was young and so were you” I believed that everyone has their own childhood memories. Do you missed the school day? The day you play with your friends on the playground rather than online, the day you chat and share your joyful moment with your classmates and friend in the classroom rather than on the Facebook or Whatsapp. It is time to get our childhood back!
The aims of 90’s gag is provide an open platform for the Post 80’s and 90’s generation in order to recall and their childhood memories through sharing. Nowadays, your son or daughter may spend most of time on the internet and playing games through electronic gadget like I-pad and smart phone rather than play some game with you. We believed that a joyful childhood should be more than that. Therefore, the other aims of 90’s gag will be to advocate the games we played in our childhood, like card games and hide and seek (Ho Jor Kon). The other reason we believed 90’gag can create and evoke collective memories because people prefer nostalgia, a lot of brand using Retro or Nostalgia marketing strategy is quest successful, for example, Coca-cola started a campaign recently which is print some classic lyrics on the package. The other example is a Tai-Wan movie called “Our Time” which use the 90’s as the story background. We hope our page can be an informative and entertaining social platform for you and share the memories with all of us.
There are three parts we will be focus on our page, first off all, our page will introduce the snacks we used to have when we just a child. Did you remember when you were in the primary school, you and me in order to collect the toys, we will spend all out pocket money on buying snacks, like the ring candy and double popsicles. I hope you can share your specials snacks to us.
The other part we hope to advocate is some games, I remember, when I was small, there are no any I pads or smart phones. Because I am living in the public estate, every Sunday, there are many child and neighborhood playing in the park. In the past, we met friend in the park rather than on the internet, we chat with other face to face rather than on Whatsapp. It is also a learning process, beside those game and it rule, we leant communication, we leant sharing and also friendship. Did you remember the moment, the friends you used to play with when you were child? Did you still remember the game rule they had told you? Yes, all the moments, I still in my brain.
Cartoon, every child loves and enjoy cartoon and the time we spent most is on the TV when we were just a little child, however, some classic cartoon may not play on the TV anymore. Share a secret to all of you, every time I go to karaoke with my friends, we must choose some carton song to sing and we will be very enjoy and involve in it. I know you must have to same experience with us, the song just like the common language between us. Our page will collect and share the classic cartoon video clips, song and dialogue from those classic productions. We hope we can evoke our memories from those video clips and songs.
In short, we hope you can find you memories here and share your joyful child moment with us. Hope you will be enjoy.

Childhood Memories For Post 90s -- Toys and Games
Everyone got their childhood memories. I, a normal post-90s, always think that I am still a ‘child’. I found that many children just focus on their smartphone, I realize that the world is changing, would the children nowadays only got ‘smartphones’ as their childhood memories? One day, a ‘real child’ took a digital monster device and asked me: ‘What is this?’ I realized that I am not a child anymore. My childhood games and toys are becoming memories gradually. Therefore, let me recall those stuffs for you, post-90s!
Toys
At that time, smartphones had not invented. Most of our entertainment came from cartoons or its related products.
Digital Monster Devices
Do you remember this device? The digital monster devices were popular among the childhood because of the digimon, the Japanese cartoons. It has 3 main functions to arouse people: the pedometer, the card swipe and the connection with friends. As this device counted the step to face the challenges, I remember I used to shake the device to save my time and speed up to fight the enemies. Also, swiping cards was needed to evolve the digimon, so that I used many different cards to help my digimon! I believe that most of the post-90s boys got this device as this could connect with others to play together! This device is one of the remarkable memories for me!
Beyblade
Japanese cartoons again! Beyblade was popular because it could play with others. I remember some funny things happened when I was small. The first thing is that there might have sparks come out for the low quality beyblade. As the genuine ring in the middle of the Beyblade was quite expensive, many students could not afford at that time, so they bought the pirated one. Yet, the pirated ring mainly were low quality so that there would be sparkle when they clash. It is quite dangerous. Also, I damaged the wall in my room thanks to the pirated ring! This story teaches us that genuine one is always the better one.
Games
Someone said that: ‘Children are the most creative group’ I agree because children always think many games to kill time, and to connect with their friends. The following games may not only specific to post 90s, but I believe that many post 90s had played, hadn’t it?
Paper, Scissors and Rock with Emperor
I remember that every recess in primary school, all of my classmates would move the chairs as a row to play this game. I believe that there were no skill for playing the Paper, Scissors and Rock. But, I always lose to the ‘emperor’ and I was wondering why he could defeat me every time. After many years, I realized that paper, scissors and rock, actually, related to the habits of human. Once you discovered, the probability that you win would increase rapidly. Seriously, I will revenge when I play again with the ‘emperor’!
The Era of Peace
Photo Source: http://www.weekendhk.com/lifestyle/%E7%8E%A9%E9%81%8E%E5%94%94%E5%A5%BD%E8%AA%8D-10%E5%A4%A7%E7%B6%93%E5%85%B8%E5%B0%8F%E5%AD%B8%E9%9B%9E%E9%81%8A%E6%88%B2/2/
Here is the reason I agree that children are creative. We could design a game just using paper and pencil! Many primary students could not concentrate during the lessons, including my friends and me for sure. Therefore, we liked to play the era of peace when having the lessons. Seriously, you can see what is out of the box. As we used anything in our brain in order to break the defence of the other side, for me, I had thought about a dinosaur, machine guns… but I believe that there would be other creative stuffs, so what was your weapons when you were playing the era of peace?
Treasure the traditions, Put down your smartphones
After you see these stuffs, have your memories being recalled? Do you have some interesting memories on those stuffs? Time flies, the toys that I mentioned above, are difficult to find. I do afraid that these childhood games would be washed out by the smartphones. Childhood should not be occupied by study and smartphones. If you have chance, you may play those games with the new generation. Of course, the memories of post 90s are not just only on toys and games! If you want to commemorate more about the post 90s, like and follow the page on Facebook -- 90’s gag! You could also share your funny memories with them.

Do You Remember...?
The topic ‘90s gag’ is a topic to recall people born in 1990s’ memories (will call them 1990s below). There are a lot of collective memories in Hong Kong are disappearing, maybe most of the Hong Kong people do not care about this, because high technology development makes the world become more convenient, such as smart phone, Facebook and other new technology. These new things bring us more, But also take a lot from us. We play a lot of games in our childhood, such as a lot of different card games, a lot of collective games, a lot of different cartons in television, etc. And the most important things is to share all of these memories for everyone, even those kids who haven’t seen these things before.
I believe that every 1990s have played a lot of collective games. For example, hide and seek, ‘何仔公’, ‘盲周’ and ‘123 traffic light’ etc. Most of these games need children run, and need one of the children catch others. Such as one of the classic collective games in Hong Kong, which has popular lots of years, ‘何仔公’. The simple version of this game need the players use ‘rock, paper scissors’ to decide who will be the catcher. When the catcher going to catch one of the player, the player can say ‘何’, and cannot move anymore, until another player go to save him, or the catcher catch the player, they will reverse the roles. If all of the players have ‘何’ already, those players need to use ‘rock, paper scissors’ to decide who will be the catcher again, only the catcher can be exceptional. Besides, there are still some rules can add into the games.Because sometimes the place play the game may have some obstacles or facilities, some of the rules may add into precisely because of this change. Such as ‘上捉上下捉下’, means only can catch the player in the same level, ‘有隔墻無穿針’, means catcher cannot catch players if there are some obstacles that taller than and between them.
Besides, there are a lot of cartons have been our collective memories. Digimon (數碼暴龍), Pokemon(寵物小精靈), Cardcaptor Sakura (百變小櫻), Ninja Kids (忍者亂太郎) etc. These cartons was very popular, but most of the kids may not know what are these nowadays. To 1990s, the most important things need to do after school is run back home, open the television, sit on the sofa and watch one of the cartons. There was a TV show in TVB call ‘Kids Click’(至net小人類), after that has another TV show call ‘After School’(放學icu), and these TV shows will play cartons when school is over.
I believe that of most of the boys born in 1990s, Digimon is the most reminiscent. Most of the boys will feel good and reminiscent when they hear the song Butterfly’s Chinese version ‘自動勝利’, which is the theme song of this cartoon. I still remember that when the last episode of the Digimon finish, the theme song played
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oho34Qtkhfw&index=10&list=PL765737D61112C6F9 ), I cry; when I grow up, watch the carton again, I will still cry when I watch the last episode; Till now, DIgimon make a new one with the same characters, I believe that a lot of 1990s feel happy like me, although the characters have changed a lot. (2015 new version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UgQK6Ma0do )
May be just like us, we will grow up, the characters will grow up too; the world progress, the cartons’ production technology will progress too. But no matter how much the world change, no matter how many years gone, all of these things can be preserved, even remake, such as the carton Digimon, many years ago, still can be popular again when the company decides to reproduce it. And I believe the carton can be, our world can too.

You must be a 90s baby if you know this
What is your memory when you were small in the 90s? The 90’s Gag is a new social network platform to bring you back to all the memory when you were babies in the 90s. So what have you played when you were small in Hong Kong? Let this blog remind 3 classical toy you must remember from your deep mind!
Digimon Virtual Pet (數碼暴龍機)
Remember when I am a primary student, every time the Digimon is broadcasting on TVB, all my friends will rush back home to watch it. Those days are wonderful. Also with the virtual pet, Digimon Virtual Pet is an electronic product derived from the late 90s, which similar to the snake game in the time which Nokia black and white phone and the Tamagotchi which also prevailing. Digit-mon Virtual Pet is classic with the 3 main modes which are bred, training and battle mode with other kids. You must remember the virtual pet need to shake to gain power and energy to upgrade the pet, even kids hide the virtual pet under the table and shake it to continue bred the pet to prevent it die!
Super Yo-yo (超速搖搖)
Yo-yo is also another classic toy in the 90s, that time, many kids have tried to practice the 30 skills which played in the cartoon Super Yo-yo. It went viral on those day TVB broadcasting; every kid wants their parents to buy one for them in the Stationery shop. I remember after that there were a super fans kid hurt a passers when he was playing the difficult trick called ’天旋地轉’ at street, my mum banned I continue to play Yo-yo to prevent I was hurt, at last I cannot play at home and play on the park secretly. (hahaha)
Mini 4WD (四驅車)
Do you remember the sound of the four-wheel ground speeding on the track? Do you miss the day which your hand is full of machine oil for the Mini 4WD? It is the best moment when the kids finish puzzles a Mini4WD on bringing out to compete with friends in the 90s. Also, there was a famous cartoon called Bakusō Kyōdai Let's & Go (四驅兄弟) broadcast on TVB (nearly all the kids watch TVB cartoon only in 90s). The ditch near my home become the arena to compete with my friends. Of course, the same drainage will become bored when you played a long time, so kids at that time usually collect from wood or can from the garbage room and even the rubbish bin, to add difficultly at the competition on Mini 4WD in the 90s. (The kids didn’t concern the hygiene problem when they were small, the only concern point is they got fun!)
The 90s was the time that we grow up and every day we go down to the play to play with other kids, I still had a hard core of friends sometimes gather which known at the time we play all kinds of toy, Digimon Virtual Pet, Yo-yo and Mini 4WD. The 90s was the time the kid didn’t have any iPhone or iPad. However, we enjoy those days and we always think back when we were dreaming, or talk with the old friends which have the same experience with us. So, want to know more about what the editor plays and done in the 90s, keep on follow and give a like to us, the 90’s Gag will bring you more about that!

90’s children! Can you remember what did you play in childhood?
Nowadays, children are always kept company by high-tech gadgets, what they play are the apps or computer games. It is blessed that 90’s children were companied by little toys, games and……FRIENDS! I am glad that I was not born in 00s that with a lot of high-tech gadgets when I look back now. It is because what I can through those little games are not just fun but friends and also creativity.
What we played in our childhood are talented, creative and convenient. The little toys are only made by the things that around us like our stationery, paper, rubber band etc. Here are three little games that pop up in my mind.
‘天下太平’
‘天下太平’ is a game that you only need a pen and a paper. Each game player must have a military headquarter with at least three protective layers. Game players play “Paper, Scissors, Stone” then. The winner could draw an aircraft or bombs, after drawing an aircraft or bombs, the player can choose to attack the other players by using those military weapons. ‘天下太平’ is also a good game that plays in the lesson kekeke. Because it is just a paper.
Rubber band
Rubber bands are the good source for friends that play together. There are several ways to play. The first one is just learning how to make a star. I can remember that when I knew how to make a star by a rubber band, the fat boy that sat next to me would show off.
Because he had already learnt how to make a double star….Oh my god….
That’s not the end. The next day, when I knew how to make a double star, he had already known the other way to play the rubber band. The last way is asking your friend to choose a finger that to release the rubber band. If the rubber band could be totally released, then your friend will be the winner.
‘東南西北’ (East, South, West, North)
(source: http://xiaozu.94uv.com/thread-4815-1-1.html )
‘東南西北’ (East, South, West, North) is described as a paper fortune teller. This little game is not just famous in Hong Kong but also Japan and western countries. In some western countries, East, South, West, North are replaced by blue, yellow, green, red. We usually will set a topic for ourselves and then use a paper to fold as a paper fortune teller.
(source: wikipedia )
After folding it, children will write some answer on it around a question. For example, How are you when you have grown.
(source: http://gag1gag.com/view.php?pid=1007)
Our friends will choose East, South, West, North and a number. Finally the device will tell you how are you.
All you need for the games that I mentioned above are paper, pen and…... the most important is your friends. The games do not require any money or complicated device. However, all the games must not miss your friends. What I found the most cherish memories are not only the games but also the friends that play with me.
When I look back to my childhood, I found that I am really blessed. I could afford to buy any expensive gadgets when I was small. But I think nowadays, children may miss a beautiful time that they stay with their friends. It is poor that the youngest smartphone addicts, is only seven-year-old. Why not share what we have and we play in our childhood to the 00s children. To let them have a good memories with friends too!

3 Computer Sounds That Prove You Are the 90s
Do you remember how your computer got online when you were just a little kid? Do you remember how the Internet was before Facebook and Twitter are discovered? How could you connect with your friends, classmates, even people from different corners of the world? There were diverse sounds related to computers in the 90s that we don’t think about today, but they’re placed deeply in our hearts and memories. I’m here to bring you back to the good old days we all once had! Let’s recall some computer sounds you probably haven't heard for decades….
1. 56K MODEM CONNECTING
The first 56k modem was available for purchase in 1998, which was the year that I was in K1. At that time, all books were paper-books instead of electronic books and I had no idea of what video games were. It was the simplest time. One day, a 56k modem just appeared suddenly next to my mum’s computer. I was surprised that the computer was able to browse different websites, and it was the time that I started familiar with the computer….
A troublesome question the 56k modem will bring was “You couldn’t dial when the 56k modem was connecting to the Internet.” This is absolutely annoying and inconvenient compared to what we enjoy nowadays. However, we are already satisfied with what we had at that time.
The sounds of modem connection are not the same according to the brand of the modem, the quality of the connection, as well as the speed of connection. So, when the 56k modem is connecting, it will…
https://youtu.be/p8XKhCfsTts
2. 3.5-inch FLOPPY DISK DRIVE
Now we’ve got Google drive, Dropbox with at least 1gb to store our files, videos and photos. Before that, we have USB, which is easy to use, but at the same time, easy to lost as many schoolmates will leave their USB in the computer room carelessly. So do you remember, we once used a storage disk, which was very thin, usually in black colour and had a sliding shutter? That’s a 3.5’’ FLOPPY DISK.
Modern PCs don’t have floppy drives anymore. Yet, there are still ways to access you old floppy disks if you still have one!! And remember to keep it as it is very valuable now!! Maybe in a few years, CDs will experience the same situation as the floppy disks do. Let’s recall how our old PCs work with floppy drives.
https://youtu.be/7Qz9a8kYYkA
3. “Uh Oh” from ICQ
“Uh Oh” “Uh Oh” This is the sound from ICQ showing that your friends are finding you!! Some of you may hate this sound, thinking that this annoys you so much; while some of you will smile whenever you hear this “Uh Oh”, cause people from far away country are finding you. Also, ICQ maybe the reason why you stay up late like 2am although your mum is murmuring you to sleep early.
Do you still remember your ICQ number? Maybe it’s too long for you to remember when you were small. Try to access your ICQ account one day and remember your old identities online. You will remember many of your old friends!!
https://youtu.be/6iCPIUGnHQ8
Times flies. Children today will never understand how terrible it is when using the 56k modem: when someone picks up the phone at home, you either can’t connect to the Internet or the person who picked up the phone will be scared by the extremely loud sound from the computer. All of the above should be embedded into your memory and I hope you will remember your good old 90s.
