i struggle a lot with the thing where religious people are like "i would NEVER force my faith onto others <3 in my family we believe that the husband is the head of the household and the wife must submit to him, but that's not for everyone! we respect that you have different beliefs and we can be friends despite that. :)" then the overwhelming response from non-religious people is "see THIS is true tolerance, when our choices are our own and we don't force them on anyone else. some of my best friends are religious people but it's ok because they never force it on me <3"
that still doesn't sit right with me. sure it sounds nice and all, but it's really not as simple as that. you're applauding these people for not forcing their beliefs on you, but look around them. their daughter has been told her whole life that she's subservient to men and is treated as a servant. their son is in the closest and praying nightly that his attraction doesn't land him in hell. the mother is a housewife who would have 0 ability to support herself and her children if her husband died/left. these people will continue to vote against the interests of anyone who isn't like them. all because of their religion.
this isn't to say you can't have friends with different beliefs to your own. rather, it's ignorant to pretend that the fact that they aren't actively trying to convert you means that those beliefs aren't still harmful or actively influencing others.

Not to be a stereotype but I’m on my period and got a little emotional over how a part of lgb history and pride month was so effectively erased by the claim that pride was started by trans women. Every time a reporter says that I rage a little inside and die a little at the complete and under incompetence of modern reporting.

I don’t think any specialized month/day has been as successfully colonized as pride month. For all the ways men yammer on about women’s history month or international women’s day even they haven’t caused us to stray too far the actual purpose of those, meanwhile from June 1st to June 30th I’ve got to witness a bunch of straights and spicy straights butcher the meaning and history behind pride 😞

Happy Pride
When I found this I was so excited I squealed. The fact that it's high profile and from '97 really shows younger folks this is not a fad. The festival was founded in 1990 and continues today.
