what's the gossip about emma and carlos? I'm new to tennis so I have no idea what's going on 😭

Carlos and Emma are scheduled to play the US Open Mixed Doubles exhibition. The reason why this has been blowing up on social media is for 2 reasons:

Emma made history winning the US Open as a qualifier. She had to win 3 matches to get into the main draw plus win 7 matches in the main tournament tournament to accomplish this. I don’t think this has ever been done before in the open era. However, I am not gonna go into detail as to why I don’t like her because that would take a long essay to explain everything. All you really need to know is that she has the tendency to put her foot in her mouth with her interview responses.

Tennis twitter is filled with trolls who spread misinformation. One of the more popular trolls is this twitter is a user by the name of limuzinaxd. That account has been posting fake quotes acting like Carlos has a crush on Emma since 2023. I believe Emma quoted the tweet and thought it was real, but the screenshot isn’t mine so I can’t confirm it

Other examples of this guy just making stuff up and people believed it. I cannot believe how gullible tennis fans are. He didn’t even try to make it sound realistic but people ran with it anyways

Anyways because of these fake interviews it had been an ongoing joke in the tennis community that Carlos actually likes Emma. He respects her as a competitor but he doesn’t have a crush (or if I want to be literally he hasn’t said anything romantic towards her, that we know of). Unfortunately a lot of the humor goes away when you find out that both Carlos and Emma are represented by IMG Tennis, and the agency arranged for them to play together. But does that matter to the tennis community? No! They genuinely ship these 2 even though they have had little to no interactions!
