Last Tumblr update!
youtube
It's almost graduation time! Not much to update on, just continuing editing and getting everything down to what it needs to be. Here is the trailer for my short films, I've complied some clips together from each one to give you a glimpse at once of what everything will look like.

Tumblr Update #6
Progress for the past two weeks?
Filming is mostly complete, some reshoots need to be done for the movie theater short film, a quick trip to the movie theater this week will solve that problem.
Upcoming goals for the next two weeks?
Editing each short film (piecing them together, color grading, sound editing). Aiming to complete editing of each film one week at a time.
Any challenges or breakthroughs?
Now that most of the filming is done, the editing process and finalizing everything will be easier than pre-production and production.

Tumblr Update #5
Progress over the past two weeks?
I've been filming one of the short films, the one centered around streaming service and isolation/lack of community.
Upcoming goals for the next two weeks?
I plan to film the short film centered around the movie theater experience this Thursday and the short film centered around the video rental experience next week. Week 12 will close the production phase for me.
Any challenges or breakthroughs?
Since I'm getting creative with the video rental short film, having to block and stage everything going on there will be a challenge since it'll be a different experience than filming the short film that I showed as an example on here.

Tumblr Update #4
What's been happening over the past two weeks?
I have completed my storyboards and am now moving on to planning out and eventually filming.
What's coming up for the next 2 weeks?
Filming! I will film the easiest short film to do of the three, the film centered around streaming services.
Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA moments?
I realized that there aren't many small video/physical media stores on the island and if there are some, they are placed in a bigger store like Barnes & Noble and Walmart. So I decided to play around with my video rental short film idea and be experimental, have fun while filming it; I want to bring the film to life by using stuffed animals and making makeshift miniature sets. I did a fairly similar setup for a short film I did for a class last semester, here are the results:

Any deliverables to share?
My completed storyboards/sketches! They're pretty basic sketches that help me follow the shot and story structure of the films. I put notes at the end of each group of storyboards so that a reader of them isn't totally lost:

Tumblr Update #3
What's been happening over the past two weeks?
I have been finalizing my plans for the project to finally get into the Production phase. I've whittled down my idea to a series of THREE short films, all exploring a piece of history and the evolution of watching movies.
One that takes place a video rental/buying store, picking out a movie and conversation with other patrons
One that takes place in a movie theater about going to watch a movie there
One that takes place at home, being able to watch movies on streaming (the isolation, lack of real life community compared to video rental stores)
I believe this series of short films would be a great follow-up to my pre-capstone paper, as it explores the ideas and images that I talked about it in there (the downfall of video rental and the rise of streaming), being able to showcase the importance of these time periods on film. I also think this is a great avenue to explore because like I said before, I would love to get into the filmmaking business as my career, I love filming and editing, it's a huge reason why I wanted to go to this school.
What's coming for the next two weeks?
Storyboarding, filming, writing! I'm almost done with storyboarding and getting what I want to ideally shoot on paper, in the next weeks or so I want to begin filming, the easiest short film to shoot first would most likely be the one dealing with watching a streaming service at home. I did say in a previous update that I wanted to start filming a little after that post but I was unfortunately unable to get it done because I still had to figure out my concrete plans.
Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA moments?
The top AHA moment was definitely figuring out how I want to go about this project. A few hurdles I may possibly face...
Finding actors/friends to be in the video rental short film. I don't think it will be that hard to find friends that want to be in my film but I will be interesting to see how schedules will collide if something were to come up.
Filming location for the video rental store film. One of the immediate steps I need to do is find a location that is similar to a video buying store or a store like Barnes & Noble, somewhere I'm allowed to film my project.
No deliverables at the moment! But I will be uploading my storyboards tomorrow, you'll see a sneak peek of them in my life "Day in the Life" video.

Hey guys, it's been a while. During this time, I have completed my workback plan and I'll be changing that every now and then, depending on what I complete as well as changing the schedule itself if I don't see it right. I will be posting more updates throughout this week.

Update #1
What's been happening since the start of the semester?
I've been getting used to the user interface of Tumblr, I've been looking at past Capstone projects for inspiration or similar ideas in the way that they made their project possible. I have a much clear idea on how I want to handle my project.
What's coming up for the next two weeks?
This week, I want to film a first draft on one of the short films I want to work on, a first person POV about the experience of going to the movie theater. I want to film this to see firsthand what this project experience will be like, as well as it's one of the easier short films to work on when it comes to what I want to put out there. I'm going to edit and publish the video, of course, as well as further plan any other short films I want to do, especially plan out the ones that would take more time and maybe even more people.
Hiccups/Hurdles/AHA moments
As I mentioned in my introduction video, I want to change my final project. My original idea was a short form video series about the history of watching movies at home over the years but I thought that was a bit too convoluted. My new idea is a series of short films, taking inspiration of freeform or experimental filmmaking, showcasing the different eras of watching movies at home or at the movie theater and why these experiences are so important to a movie buff or a casual enjoyer of the arts.
Where are you on your timeline?
Because I figured out and settled on what I actually want to do for my project, I've moved past that step and am now on the step of planning out how to make these short films possible. I have several dates for when I want to film these short films, I'm keeping an eye on this coming Thursday and February 13 (Thursday) to film the first person POV of the movie theater experience.

Hey everyone, I'm Aaron and I'm excited for you to see what I can create during these next few months!
One capstone project that stood out to me was from Spring 2024, Matthew Naki's AI and Filmmaking project. He created a short film and inserted scenes created by AI that he could not film himself given the short amount of time. Although I am not a fan of generative AI or AI being used in a creative way, I thought it was really interesting to see how AI was able to fill in the gaps for his project and it was especially interesting to see someone in my age range use AI in that way.
