The title of my project is 1/10th of a Wish. In Japan, cranes are considered to be a mystical creature alongside dragons and tortoises, and can live for a thousand years. If a person makes a thousand cranes, one crane for each year lived, they'll be able to make a wish. This is usually done to wish for the recovery of a persons health. While doing this project it just made me contemplate the amount of devotion one must commit to making a thousand cranes.

Visual Sketchbook 3
The Judgement of Paris By Ludovico David is a painting. The materials it is made of is oil paint on canvas and the dimensions of the painting are 68" x 96 1/2". David has painted the myth of Paris and the three goddesses, Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera. The painting depicts a variety of vibrant colors for the scene and characters, with each character donning a signature color. Fuchsia for Paris, green for Aphrodite, red-orange for Athena, blue and white for Hera. Hermes is also depicted over Paris' shoulder and a cherub, assumed to be Eros, is at Aphrodite's side. I would say that while there is not much uniformity throughout the painting it feels balanced with the amount of figures present. David seems to emphasize the figures of the characters with dynamic anatomy and colors that make the viewer look at each character in the painting before looking at another. The painting does have contrast in terms of color and variety is seen in the actions of the characters. The work makes me feel intrigued when looking at it. I want to know the whole story of how this situation began and ended, what was going through the minds of each of the characters in the painting and why do they do what they do. This painting is associated with the baroque movement and Roman classicism. The artwork speaks of the influence that art movements at the time had on artists, and it's especially present David's painting in the various elements like composition, color, and richness of the art. In this painting, David is illustrating the story of Paris and the three goddesses but he was also painting the emotions of the characters as the story takes place. I feel that he clearly gets his message across especially when looking at the faces of the characters depicted. All have clear emotions being displayed, especially when you have a deeper understanding of the story taking place you better understand what the characters are feeling. I feel that the importance of this piece of art is relevant due to the influences of art cultures that can be derived from it. I picked this artwork because I used to be enamored with Greek mythology as a child and immediately recognized what story was being depicted when I saw the painting. Of course it's been a few years but it was nice to reread the story and study the painting. I was also interested in how David rendered certain elements of the painting, like the cloth and the anatomy. All in all, I feel as if this is an excellent work to represent the baroque movement.

Journaling- Principles of Design
Unity and Variety- Unity can be seen as an element of consistency or of something being the same throughout. Variety can be seen as a multitude of elements brought together to combine and contrast with each other. Rene Magrite displays unity in Golconda using the form of his subjects appearance. Yet Magritte also displays variety through this subject by layering him throughout the piece creating a variety of differing sizes.
Tumblr media
Balance- Considered to be the state where elements work in tandem to create a sense of equilibrium. This can be achieved through the use of symmetry or asymmetry. In the following piece, balance is showcased through the artist use of symmetry. Though not perfectly symmetrical they share mirroring qualities in shapes and sizes.
Tumblr media
Emphasis and subordination- Emphasis is used as a way to draw our eye to an area, while subordination is the opposite and is used as a neutral area to lead the eye toward areas of emphasis. In the painting, Still Life with Lobster by Anna Vallayer-Coster, the artist uses color to emphasize and draw the eyes to the lobster, while everything else is subdued and washed in darker tones making you focus on the bright red lobster.
Tumblr media
Directional Forces- The creation of a path to lead the eye through a work of art. In the following painting the directional force present is the path starting at the edge which leads the viewers eye to the main subject, the cloud.
Tumblr media
Repetition and Rhythm- Repetition is a reoccurrence of a visual element. Rhythm is a repeated pattern of elements with similar variations, there are different rhythms that can be conveyed in art. In the piece below, Donald Judd creates repetition throughout by using the same boxes in a stack, while rhythm is present through repetition.
Tumblr media
Scale and Proportion- Scale is how one relates to another in terms of size. Proportion is the relationship of the parts of a whole object and to another. In the following piece, scale is demonstrated in the heights of the characters compared with each other. Proportion is also demonstrated through the artists' use of altered proportions.

Writing and Looking
Jasper Johns, Three Flags, 1958. Encaustic on canvas. Fig. 7.7, Section 7.4
In Johns' artwork Three Flags he employs a use of pattern using the American flag and plays with its scale. There's repetition and a consistent rhythm to the work due to the layering of the flags on top of each other and the reoccurrence of stars and stripes. There is texture due to the artists' choice of making an encaustic painting.
Connecting Art to Your World
I consider myself to be fortunate that I can appreciate colors as they are. My experience with how color has affected me isn't necessarily the most exciting story. It quite simply just consists of me looking up towards the morning sky. Normally, I usually look down or forward when walking but on this one morning I was looking at the sky and noticed just how incredible it looked. It consisted of a variety of colors of a very rich saturation. There were blues, reds, yellow and purple hues present. I had wanted to stop and just take a picture to capture it but I decided not to. Though I still don't take photos of the skies I find myself making the effort to look up more to appreciate the simple beauty present in the colors of the sky.
If I had to pick a color scheme for my life I feel it would consist of earthy, charcoal tones with the occasional spots of varying colors.

I made a simple comic depicting my feelings about books. My life without a love for books would probably be a boring one as books allow me to immerse myself in their stories and adventures. Nothing can beat a really good story that can transport me to another world. I really appreciate all of the stories that have passed through my hands.
Photo/Design
Wawa, Puma, Adidas, HP, Apple, Tiffany & Co., Aeropostal, GAP, Uniqlo, Sharpie, Expo, Post-it, Samsung, One Plus
I know and recognize these logos because most of these brands have a consistent presence in my life. The other reason I know about them is because most are well established brands or are simple to recognize at a glance.
I understand that logos are important to brands and are carefully designed to be memorable and distinct from other businesses. The logo is the identity of the brand and with a weak logo, brands essentially have a weak identity.

Fiori Di Como
Tumblr media
Dale Chihuly 1998 Fiori Di Como. 70' x 30' x 12' Glass. Lobby of the Bellagio, Las Vegas, NV
When I first saw the Fiori Di Como some of my first thoughts were how the glass work and colors were really pretty, and how it resembles a field of flowers.
2. Five facts about the Fiori Di Como by Dale Chihuly
"Fiori Di Como" means "flowers of Como", and is inspired by the flowers of lake Como in Italy.
It is the largest glass sculpture in the world, comprised of 2,000 individual blown-glass flowers.
Chihuly lead a team of over 100 people, including glassblowers, architects, and more, to create and install this piece of work.
The entire sculpture weighs over 40,000 pounds.
Chihuly is a prolific glass sculpture artist with his work appearing in over 200 art museums around the world.
3. My opinion and thoughts on this art piece now is still the same as before. I still find the work of art incredibly pleasing to the eye with the variety of colors, patterns, and shapes present. Chihuly really captured and was able to convey the essence of flowers in his work. Only now after learning more about it I can also say I am impressed with the scale and amount of work that must have went into it to make it possible. I can only comprehend the magnitude of it through a picture.

This is a poster that was digitally designed by scanning hand drawn flowers into Photoshop and finished in the application. It was made by yazzy.co on Instagram, then printed on poster paper, for a band called Flipturn.
The use it serves is as a memento of the first concert that I've ever went to this summer. I personally think it is very appealing to the eye and love the aesthetic of it. I like the choice of colors and how they contrast and complement each other without being too jarring. The use of black as negative space while also creating dimension with it is also very nice. Not to mention the composition, with the motif of flowers being used as the main focal point of the poster while the band name is to the side, which sort of guides your eyes from one half to the other.
A Written Self Portrait
I am 19 as of May, 2023. I identify as female. I was born and raised in Florida. My ethnicity is Asian, more specifically Vietnamese and I am a second generation American.
For fun I like to read, this includes manga, manhwa, novels, and fan-fiction. I also like to game solo and with friends, my currently played games include Valorant, Baldur's Gate 3, and Honkai Star Rail. I am not a member of any organized group. I have been working part-time at Wawa for a year now.
What makes me uniquely me, is me. More specifically, I am the culmination and amalgamation of all my experiences, choices and their consequences. A product of nurture and nature. My thoughts, feelings, how I perceive and sense the world have made me who I uniquely am. Though at times I just feel like a girl going through the motions of life.
Art Project - Self Portrait
Tumblr media
This is my mixed media self-portrait. Personally, I'm not a fan of cameras and even less so of taking selfies or perceiving myself. The background is a collage of various pages from books I've read and cherished.
