belial is the worst tsc villian ever because his motivations make no sense and are quite frankly stupid. why did he spend a whole book putting an enormous amount of effort into possessing Jesse and killing a grand total of five people and very briefly summoning his brother to earth to fight one (1) Institute... like in what way did any of that help achieve his ultimate goal of crowning himself King of England I don't get it. mind you he's a literal Prince of Hell and claims he's the one who gave Lucifer the idea to rebel against God like truly why does he care this much 💀

It was as ridiculous then as it is now. ‘Because he’s a Carstairs and we’re supposed to be friends’ is not a valid reason to believe a person doesn’t deserve forgiveness James😭 he didn’t ask for anyone to already have a perfect image of them in their mind why is he still holding it against him years later because he didn’t meet it

Yes! Like I love all of Thomas poetic ramblings wouldn’t change it for the world but you’re telling me we couldn’t also get a bit of internal monologue about he feels about Alastair as an actual person and his actions

Christopher is literally the kindest person in the entire series so glad he’s living the best and happiest life possible/in denial.

Thomas stuck being the kind guy and always hiding how he feels cause he doesn’t want to upset people would be a really cool character arc but the things is he’s not really that kind of a guy. He’s not understanding in the slightest(not talking about you academy Thomas I love you) and it’d be so interesting to see the difference in the way he’s perceived and the way he actually is but it’s just never talked about! So many things are just never talked about and it sucks cause the characters deserved so much better

You’re right he does say that and it is a really good explanation of his pov and it is quite an in character response that we saw before with the engagement party which brings me back to my problem! Thomas reaction at cordelias engagement was a bad thing, he was angry and grieving and he had a flawed and angry response that really hurt Alastair, he didn’t pause to consider anything else and lashed out, he held on to this black and white thinking and anger for months even if you could say he wasn’t personally angry and he was just holding on to it for Matthew(another point I’ll get to). Anyway he held on to this till the sanctuary the supposed turning point where Alastair talks about how he was bullied and things become less black and white, if Thomas’ anger was supposed to be written as a character flaw this is where he’d come to terms with it because after this we only focus on Alastairs fears and not any of thomas’ flaws. His angry response to what James said shows that he isn’t past this and it’s still part of his characters thinking, I could give cc the tiniest bit of credit and say that he slipped back into an old pattern and when Alastair flinched he realised it was hurtful and corrected himself slightly. Which honestly yeah I could see that it really makes sense but! We don’t ever bring it up again! There’s no conversation, there’s no Alastair bringing up his insecurities about it and Thomas talking about how it’s something he’s working on or whatever, it’s like you said though the problem is mainly too many characters not enough pages. The placement just seems really odd and bad writing though. He’s realised that the reason he hated Alastair so much was because of Matthew and because he hurt James, he realised that he was in a bad situation and was not a bad person cause of the choices he made(I’m guessing cause we never actually got any of that) and decided regardless on his friends personal feelings he loved Alastair and he still deserved a second chance then the same situation happens with grace and he’s back at it again which if it was talked about would be really interesting but it’s not! And that’s my problem
