Took a break to go for a ride while working to get ready to replace the electrical service to the house. The snow and ice storm that brought this joyful frozen water to the landscape broke half a tree off in the yard and it crashed into the electrical lines to the house, ripping the meter base and everything right off the house. So it's keep the generator fueled and the wood stove loaded for now until next week when the parts come in to fix the mess. Oh and hiding in all that delicious black is my relatively new TackForm cell phone holder which I am confident will live up to the moto of built "to outlast me". PS-The Avon Storm 3D tires on the Bonneville are fantastic in RainStorms, not IceStorms so the reference to "Storm" in the name is specific to conditions above 0c/32f. Oh and forget about deep slush with a layer of ice underneath, I tried, didn't work there either but the rooster tails were cool. 🤓 @tackformlive LG G8ThinQ w/Snapseed #triumph #triumphbonneville #triumphbonnevillet120black #1200cc #triumphmotorcyclesusa #fortheride #triumphbonnevilleacecafetribute #snapseed #lgg8photoography #adventuremotorcycle #wintermotorcycleride (at Pacific Northwest) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLaNLRBH3Ef/?igshid=1772lomcq80bz

It snowed this week so I was inspired to share the results of a roll of Efke KB25 I shot and then lost and recently found. These are most likely from winter of 2016-17. Ironically these photos are very representative of what it looked like around where I live for about 2 days this week before it started melting. Efke films were made made in Croatia for many decades but the factory closed in 2012. Their films were unique in how they captured light and shadows compared to other more traditional film stocks on the market. Camera: Nikon FE2 Film: Efke KB-25 true black and white film. Developed and scanned by Blue Moon Camera and Machine. (at Pacific Northwest) https://www.instagram.com/p/CKr1l-bHHy8/?igshid=1rpchbzhu2orq

4700 Mile 7564km Motorcycle trip from the Pacific Northwest to Wisconsin and back. 08/09/2019 Day 3, Columbus, NE 2020 T120 Black Ace Bonneville purchased on 07/27/19 at #cascademoto My original plan was to arrive much earlier than I did on Day 2 so I could visit my family in Nebraska that evening. Unfortunately the delays of Day 1 bled into Day 2 and I decided that instead of leaving on Day 3 for Wisconsin I would stay in Nebraska for a day and visit family, ship my useless extra bag home, and check my chain condition/ lube. I was up late and feeling a bit sheepish for having slept in but I really needed some recovery sleep. I had purchased a huge Endurastan brand tank bag on sale before the trip and it turned out to be too large for my tank. I put in the top box as an organizer instead but it just didn't work out so I made my way to the Columbus Post Office with a box in hand from Aunt Rolaine to ship it in. Along the way of course the Google Maps directions voice in my helmet(voice in my head) gave me bad directions and directed me to ride my motorcycle through the interior of a grocery store. I considered it but could not figure out the point of riding around inside the large store becuase it was obvious the Post Office was not inside this building. A kind soul at the StarBucks inside the grocery store drew me a map to the Post Office as I stood by sweltering in my full riding gear. Yes I wear full kit even for a small errand in town even in the summer heat. I found the Columbus, NE Post Office with the help of the "map" (see photos) and it was one of the best postal experiences I've ever had. Every one of the staff were super helpfull and really bent over backwards to help me get my package sent home. I can't say enough good things about the PostMaster and employees at this location. 4700 Mile 7564km Motorcycle trip from the Pacific Northwest to Wisconsin and back. 08/08/2019 Day 2, Final stops of the day 2020 T120 Black Ace Bonneville purchased on 07/27/19 at #cascademoto Trip starting odometer reading 711m/1144km Start of day 2 odometer 1684m/2710km End of day 2 odometer 2359m/3796km Day 2 Distance 675m/1086km Trip Total to Date 1648m /2652km This is where I join up with the route my Mom used to ride in the early 1980's on her 1981 Honda SilverWing. More on that later. Less than an hour after leaving Cheyenne I crossed into the state of Nebraska near Pine Bluffs, WY. The landscape started changing into rolling hills, dry rangeland, and irrigated farm land. There were small farming communities just to the North of where I was riding on eastbound I-80 along the river there. Patches of verdant green in an otherwise slightly parched land. There were also big cloud systems in front of me to the East, more on that later. First Nebraska fuel stop was in Chappel. It required getting off I-80 and riding into town to hunt down a fuel station. I pulled into the Pump and Pantry and got a bit of a surprise. They had ethanol/gasoline mixes ranging from 10% ethanol up to 83%. One of the most nightmarish things I saw on the entire trip. Could you get just gasoline? No you are going to stick some corn byproduct into your vehicle no matter what. I really enjoyed riding through western Nebraska. I enjoyed the hills and bluffs I saw along the way and really want to go back and explore the countryside with my large format Graflex camera. The landscape was very intriguing and an amazing variety of farms and ranches could be seen from the road, many of which looked like they been there for generations. I would love to ride a motorcycle around this part of the country on all the back roads and dirt tracks and check out the small towns and the amazing landscape. It is such a joy to be able to have a 360 degree view from the bike and be able to see all the little bluffs, hill tops, draws and other features of the land around me. 4700 Mile 7564km Motorcycle trip from the Pacific Northwest to Wisconsin and back. 08/08/2019 Day 2, 1st & 2nd stops 2020 T120 Black Ace Bonneville purchased on 07/27/19 at #cascademoto Trip starting odometer reading 711m/1144km Start of day 2 odometer 1684m/2710km I slept in and got a little bit of desperately needed sleep and did some desperately needed stretching before leaving the comfortable accomodations at "Then and Now of Rock Springs SuiteA" AirBnB. Which was a quaint little apartment in a sturdy, nicely remodeled, large old home. I fueled up at the CONOCO near the Interstate and made a regrettable decision on the way there. I passed by "Restoration Ministries" an old building with an awesome motorcycle mural painted on the front. I didn't get a photo of my Bonneville in front of the building. Over a year later I still regret not taking 10 minutes for that photo op. It's easy to find on Google Street View, it is on Elk Street. If you're inspired to look it up let me know what you think in the comments. Refuel stops have to be managed carefully to avoid white knuckle riding on gasoline vapors at the end of one's fuel tank reserves when riding across the American West. I carried 2.5 liters of spare gas for emergencies in camping stove fuel bottles but never wanted to have to use them as it wastes time. My next fuel stop was Rawlins, WY instead of Laramie as Laramie is just far enough from Rock Springs to be over my personal safety cushion fuel reserve I keep to avoid walking. That happened to me once on my 1994 Harley Davidson. I swore then it would never happen again. I was now on the The Sturgis Trail. Scores upon scores of U.S. highways and byways become conduits to this bikers' melee in The West. The overwhelming number of bikes I was seeing everywhere were Harley Davidsons, Indians, and Victories out on the highways at this point. The Conoco gas station just off the Interstate was alive with bikes going to and from Sturgis. (at Rawlins Wyo) https://www.instagram.com/p/CIO2mOknNJC/?igshid=1a29oc92hvgf0

4700 Mile 7564km Motorcycle trip from the Pacific Northwest to Wisconsin and back. 08/07/2019 Day 1, Final stops of the day 2020 T120 Black Ace Bonneville purchased on 07/27/19 at #cascademoto Trip starting odometer reading 711m/1144km End of day 1 odometer 1684m/2710km = 973 miles / 1566 kilometers ridden The photo outside my AirBnB was actually taken the morning of the 8th. (Day 2) but I wanted to have a picture for this post. The landscape between Twin Falls and Ogden is arid open country with farms, ranches, hills and mountains in the distance. The sun finally set as I was approaching Ogden, Utah bringing relief from the day's heat. I rolled into Ogden and almost passed completely through the city before taking one of the last exits. There were no gas stations nearby so I had to backtrack North through the city to find one. I finally found one in a sketchy looking part of town just East of the main North/South drag through town. There was only one tank of fuel between my destination, Rock Springs, and I, but I needed yet another break so I refilled the hydration bladder, ate some road grub and called home while stretching and keeping an eye on the sceegey looking characters that were hanging out in the gas station parking lot. It was full on dark when I left Ogden and I was concerned about deer in the mountains and the risk of limited visibilty. I was correct to be worried as I-84 dives eastward into the mountains I started seeing eyeballs glowing in the night along the road side. I lost a signifigant amount of time in Boise from the truck wreck and the breaks I took. Now I really had to slow down.and lose more time. Deer and other large animals kill motorcycle riders in noteable numbers every year in North America. (at Rock Springs Wyoming) https://www.instagram.com/p/CH-kBaFHFHC/?igshid=14kz7h6k417h6

4700 Mile 7564km Motorcycle trip from the Pacific Northwest to Wisconsin and back. 08/07/2019 Day 1, 2nd and 3rd stops 2020 T120 Black Ace Bonneville purchased on 07/27/19 The ride from LaGrande to Fruitland, Idaho was brutal. The route was still I-84 but the cooling influence of the mighty Columbia river was long gone when I started out from my 2nd fuel stop. My journal notes from fuel stop #3 in Fruitland say this; "Just crossed Idaho border. Last 120 miles were hell. The Earth was an anvil, the sun the hammer and I was molten steel in between. Thank God for my cooling vest." The farther East I rode toward Idaho the more the heat was affecting me. It had been 104f/40c when I left LaGrande. I heard the temperature on the weather report on the in-helmet FM radio of my Sena Bluetooth helmet communicator. The air I was riding through was so dry I would take a sip of the water from my hydration pack and by the time I was done swallowing my mouth was dry again. The evaporation rate was so fast my Sedici cooling vest was completely dry by the time I made it to Fruitland. About an hour and a half out of LaGrande I started feeling wierd and in fact was starting to develop some cognitive issues and even started feeling sleepy. Diving down into a canyon, I had hopes that I might catch some cooler temperatures as I went down in elevation but no luck. Just oppressive heat. The landscape toggled between brown and tan undulating stubby, hilly rangeland and the forested mountains in between the vast expanses of desert that is eastern Oregon. The heat and dehydration that I was experiencing was so signifigant I have only one memory of the fuel stop in Fruitland. Otherwise just journal entries. I know I recognized I was dehydrating as I had no urine prodution in spite of drinking 100 onces/3 litres of water along the way and that is the singular memory and it's a thin hazy one at that. 4700 Mile 7564km Motorcycle trip from the Pacific Northwest to Wisconsin and back. 08/07/2019 Day 1 2020 T120 Black Ace Bonneville. To be honest I had some trepidation as I rolled on the throttle heading out the driveway on this trip. 15 years had passed since I had been on a long motorcycle journey and this one was put together in a short period of time. I had only owned the bike for 2 weeks and had just got the break in service done. There was a great deal of North America I was going to have to cross in a very short amount of time and on my very first Triumph Bonneville. I bought this particular bike because it looks fantastic and handles really well. Unfortunately I'm 6 ft/1.8m tall and I barely fit comfortably on the bike. 1st stop was Biggs Junction, OR for fuel after just under 3 hours of riding much of it along the Columbia River with its nearly endless panoramic views of majestic mountains and broad expanse of river. The sky was a brilliant shade of blue and my spirits were high as I continued East on I-84. 2nd stop was less idyllic in La Grande, OR. I had been starting to cook in the mid day heat and took refuge in the scant shade offered by the convenience store in the photos. The ride from Biggs Junction kept getting warmer and warmer until I hit La Grande where it was 104f/40c. I put on my cooling vest which is the funny looking silver vest thing sitting on the bike. The vest is a simple but ingenious bit of kit from Sedici, I had read about recently in a motoblog. Just soak in water, put it on and it cools you by evaporation. I got a bite to eat there, refueled the bike, refilled my 100oz/3L hydration pack, soaked the vest in the restroom sink and poured cold bottled water down my neck and off I went to broil eastwards. Best Soul Food I've Had In a Restaurant May 2017 I go there whenever I'm in a 300 mile /480km radius of DFW. I make my big brother Dave take me there every time I'm around the way. Sometimes more than once per visit. I can't get enough of their food and the people are great. I'm sure the lovely and gracious cashier I took the selfie with thought I was nuts when I told her where I was from and that I had driven all the way from Oklahoma City in part just so I could eat there again. #dallastexas #dallasrestaurants #southdallas #bestsoulfood #soulfood #cornbread #mobilephotography #cellphonephotography #traveltexas #traveltheworld (at Sweet Georgia Brown: Soul Food Eatn!!) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHv5HpfnuVM/?igshid=64zlctqj8p4h

Veterans Day Motorcycle Tour of Memorials Part 1 November 11 is Veterans Day here and Armistice Day marking the end of World War 1. This year I crawled out of the Coyote den nestled in the foothills many miles/km's from anywhere and rode through some very cold temperatures and really bad fog for what felt like an eternity to meet up with members of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chpt 29-1. The four of us (Hershel, Grumpy, Chains, and Coyote) rode our bikes on a tour of some Veterans Memorials in the Willamette Valley. We each represented 4 branches of the US military; Army, Navy, Marines & Air Force. We visited the Korean War Memorial in Wilsonville, OR, the Albany, OR, Reverse Veterans Day Parade, The Memorial for the Yamhill County Soldiers of the World War (WW1) in McMinnville, OR, the Veterans Memorial Park in Cornelius, OR and lastly the brand new Veterans Memorial Park in North Plains, OR complete with a 100ft/30.5m flag pole which is directly adjacent to the recently designated POW/MIA Memorial Highway (Hwy26). The sun came out eventually and we had a fantastic ride and a really good time. Film pictures to be developed and posted later. A special thank you to the people and businesses of Linn County and Albany for their amazing Veterans Day Parade and North Plains for the significant efforts at building a wonderful new memorial. #vetswhoride #cvma #combatveteransmot orcycleassociation #cvmastore #vetshelpingvets #veteranshelpingveterans #motorcycletherapy #combatvets #combatveterans #usarmy #usmc #usnavy #usairforce #usarmyveterans #koreanwarmemorial #oregonkoreanwarmemorial #wilsonvilleoregon #linncountyoregon #albanyoregon #mcminnvilleoregon #yamhillcountyoregon #corneliusoregon #northplainsoregon #windtherapy #lgg8thinq (at Oregon Korean War Memorial) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHonAf8nmv9/?igshid=69jfua2ns6qp

I also have to get my film developed too. In the interim I thought I'd post my favorite one from my phone.
