Google’s ‘Florida 2’ rule update isn't associated with original Florida update
Here's Why some folks are calling this the Florida 2 upgrade, but don't allow the name confuse you. Not long after Google released a broad core algorithm update on March 12, 2019 a few in the market started calling it the Florida 2 update. , However, the moniker has produced a bit of confusion among SEOs who wonder if this week's release is connected at the Florida update in November 2003. It's not. Here is what you need to know. Who named it Florida 2?. The name comes from Brett Tabke, owner of the Webmaster World forum and pubCon conference. He upgraded The Webmaster World discussion thread giving the name to the upgrade Florida 2. , In the first days of Search engine optimization, Tabke and Webmaster World frequently named a number of the Google updates, so it was fine to see his name take root again. Why name it Florida 2? The original Florida upgrade from Nov 2003 was named Florida update because Brett had a PubCon conference in Florida. So that named the upgrade the Florida update. This March update happened a week later another PubCon conference in Florida. So Brett named this update the Florida 2 upgrade as a nod to the first Florida update from more than a decade back and also to highlight PubCon. This is essential! Florida 2 and also Florida 1 are different. How Google updated its search ranking algorithm in 2003 differs tremendously in they do updates today. They're completely different beasts, completely different algorithms and behave. The 2003 Florida update along with the March 12 core update will probably be categorized as large, but really shouldn't compare the features of what happened in Nov 2003 to what happened in March 2019. What was the 3/12 update? That's a good question -- we all know this was a large update. Google does a few substantial core updates annually and Google confirmed this was one of those major broad core updates. We’d relate this more to the updates we saw on August 1 along with the other core search algorithm updates which Google confirmed. At this point, we all have to see more information to comprehend what's changed. I am seeing all kinds of theories around this update from the YMYL and EAT chatter to this being more related to Penguin. At this point, it's too soon to say what this update was exactly about, but we will continue to monitor and will update you whenever we know more. Presently we should just stop comparing it to Florida 1. What Is a Broad Core Update? Broad core updates are improvements to Google’s complete algorithm for the aim of better understanding search terms and WebPages. These improvements enable Google to more accurately match search queries to WebPages and improve user satisfaction.
