I can't help but wonder if this was just one big miscommunication.
The aunt wants to teach her nephew the importance of consent. Specifically, she wants to teach him that, "No does not mean keep trying." And that's true. You must not continue to pursue someone and try to change their mind after they already told you no. And when her nephew said, "Keep trying," that was the exact wrong answer that the aunt was hoping to avoid.
But it's very much possible that "keep trying" meant something different to the nephew. He could have a habit of giving up on trying to connect with people and isolating himself after one rejection because he assumes that one person disliking him means that he's objectively unlikeable and that everyone will dislike him. Other people have then reassured him that he needs to keep trying, meaning that he needs to forget about the individuals who don't like him and keep trying, at a reasonable pace, to find those who do like him. And when he said "keep trying", he could have been thinking about that.

This queen went from rejecting the Teen Wolf Movie for significantly paying her less than her white costars, to starring as the lead in a critically acclaimed all-asian animated movie made by a major studio

SUPERMAN (2025) DIR. JAMES GUNN
That’s what’s driven me with this movie the whole time, is making something about kindness. It is about kindness and goodness more than hope to me. It’s about being loved more than about hope. Hope is something outside of ourselves. We have this belief that maybe something will change in our lives. It almost denigrates the present moment, hope. And it’s not about that. It’s about being loving, being kind, and how that compassion is really the answer to everything. That’s a basic human need.
