i'm "i'm gonna go outside and look at the night sky and calm the fuck down." and "oh, how i wish to be a person driven by passion." and also "i exist and that's nice, but then i try living and i feel hopeless." and "i am afraid to hope for what i long for"

The Hogwarts Houses' Autumn Aesthetics
Slytherin: curling up on the sofa, reading a good book, listening to vinyl, driving in the rain, chai tea every morning, finding the perfect scarf
Hufflepuff: lighting candles, making garlands, carving pumpkins, baking pies, buying new sweaters, backyard bonfires, stargazing and watching the sunrise
Ravenclaw: brewing apple cider, watching black and white movies, adopting a shelter cat, feeling safe in a thunderstorm, picking up a new hobby, forgetting your umbrella
Gryffindor: the crackle of a fireplace, warm socks and cold hands, hayrides and cornfields, flannel pajamas, cold nights and warm afternoon sun

How to spot a Slytherin
Common habitats: gothic cathedrals, 24-hour coffee shops, antique stores, art galleries, forbidden forests, the quietest spot in libraries, cemeteries, wandering around the city at night

Ilvermorny Winter Aesthetics
Wampus: Frost forming on the grass every morning; bloody, chapped lips that reject carmex; scissors stripping ribbon as gifts are wrapped; calligraphy in black and red ink on tawny paper; a fierce kiss on the mouth that only leaves you wanting more; rosy cheeks; smoke from burning incense; apples marinating in cinnamon and brown sugar; lotion on a child’s chapped fingers
Pukwudgie: Honey in chamomile tea; the last of the leaves being swept away; sugar and vanilla candles burning in the evening; carolers appearing on the doorsteps of the elderly; growing out your hair to keep the back of your neck from being cold; names hand-stitched on stockings; people swaddled in blankets while on the floor, unable to see anything but their eyes peeking out; soft, uncertain pecks beneath mistletoe; roasting and glazing pecans
Horned Serpent: Sucking on icicles after breaking them off of tree branches; reading in bed underneath Christmas lights; the exchange between peppermints and toothpicks; the kiss that tastes of goodbye with the hint of what if; the hiss of skis against the snow-packed mountain-side; drowsiness caused by the combination of three am and mulled cider;  journals filled with hard-pressed pencil marks; water bubbling beneath the icy surface of a creek; dyeing icing bright colors while managing to sneak tastes of that same icing without anyone noticing
Thunderbird: An unexpected kiss at the stroke of midnight, one that barely makes the corner of your mouth, yet leaves you breathless; waking to find your cheek hard-pressed to a frost-laden car window; wrapping being torn away; hanging icicle lights on the roof of your house; the lingering taste of champagne on your tongue; moonlight on the wings of a snowy owl; early morning runs in which the cold air causes your lungs to ache; celtic hymns; the giggles that run through your tummy when a snowflake lands on your tongue

Short Hogwarts Aesthetics
Gryffindor: converse, stylized lighters, the way stuff falls out of the back of their car when they stop for snacks on an impromptu road trip they also somehow had a playlist already prepared for
Hufflepuff: nerdy socks, quilts, messenger bags that wont close because they’re going for coffee with friends and they never know what they might need
Ravenclaw: brand new notebooks, separate wishlists for each of their obsessions, that isolated corner in Barnes & Noble where–even if it isn’t their genre–they like to wander off to
Slytherin: well worn beanies, dark jeans, sitting next to a friend on a metal rail with their feet dangling over the side while the sun slips between the tall buildings of a city skyline

slytherin is black leather and green velvet. emerald stones and street lamps illuminating a thin layer of water on the roads. the way the world’s colors are more saturated after it rains and the landscape view from the top of a mountain. dew on evergreens and dark green leaves. it’s the moment after something is spoken and two people look into each other’s eyes, uninterrupted and uninfluenced by the outside world. the first snow of winter and the soft ticking of a clock that you usually tune out and can only hear when it’s absolutely silent. it’s the moments you watch in movies and don’t think they exist until they happen to you, and you remember what it feels like to feel.
hufflepuff is golden hour and soft light. photogenic flowers that crave the touch of a hand and hold the fresh scent of spring in their petals. heartfelt gifts and warm hugs that linger in the air for moments after they have ended. the touch of a hand on a shoulder and the feeling of getting lost in someone’s eyes. genuine smiles and hearing old favorite songs you had forgotten about. nostalgia wrapped up in a single scent or presented in the form of a phrase. moments that drip down your fingers like honey as you try to hold them in your hands for fear that you’ll never taste anything as sweet. it’s the way the sun rises without someone having to ask it to, and the way it falls gracefully into tree branches that resemble outstretched arms.
gryffindor is getting a second wind late at night in the midst of exhaustion. hearing someone speak about their passion. feeling laughter rise within you and speaking the words that hover in your mind as if tempting you to use them. making people laugh and taking chances. it’s the breath before jumping into the water when you close your eyes and times slows for just a second before resuming at normal speed. it’s the murmur of excitement in the air and the repetitive pounding of your heart echoing in your body and magnified by the silence.
ravenclaw is your first shooting star. staying up late just to finish a book and the taste of snowflakes on your tongue. fascinating information that you think about for days after acquiring it. the soothing sound of crashing waves or rain on the roof of your house when you fall asleep. taking a walk at night when the world is quiet and the earth seems to be begging for your footsteps to remind it what it feels like to breathe. it’s the feel of midnight when it’s spent pondering ideas larger than life alongside people with which conversations seem to come naturally.

Written aesthetics for the hogwarts houses
Gryffindor:
Gryffindor is finding that perfect shade of red lipstick that matches your favourite outfit, wanting to cancel plans but following through and actually enjoying it, the collective gasp as fireworks erupt, singing that one lyric louder than the others and feeling it vibrate through your chest, the overlapping sound of people talking at a party, throwing food into your friend’s mouth from a distance, the rush of adrenaline when making an impulsive decision, the buzzing left over energy you have after a night out, talking about something so passionately that you feel as though your mouth can’t move quickly enough, the sound that erupts from roller coasters that’s a combination of joy and fear.
-
Hufflepuff:
Hufflepuff is smiles so bright they remind you of sunshine, collapsing onto your bed and feeling instantly comfortable, platonically tucking a strand of hair behind your friend’s ear, buying your friends gifts just because “you saw it and instantly thought of them”, not knowing all the lyrics to a song but eagerly singing along anyway, that first hug from your friend’s mum that makes you feel warm and accepted, the sweet smell of honey flavoured cereal, taking aesthetic photos of the landscape while on road trips, chamomile tea, attaching strong feelings of nostalgia to every aspect of your home town, waiting for Polaroid pictures to develop, the mum friend, waking up to realise it’s you’re day off work and smiling as you drift back to sleep.
-
Ravenclaw:
Ravenclaw is spending more time on your notes than your actual work, staring at the night sky so intently that the ground disappears from view, pulling your hair into a messy bun that actually looks presentable, discovering a word or phrase that perfectly describes your situation, that moment when you become so lost in a book that the words morph into images, constantly redecorating your room because you can’t decide on a theme, a sudden burst of inspiration in the middle of the night, music/lyrics that resonates with you so strongly that you feel it in your soul, procrastinating, hair falling in front of your face while concentrating, making pro-con lists for every situation, watching internet documentaries you stumbled across at 2am.
-
Slytherin:
Slytherin is swimming in cold freshwater lakes, that first bite of mint gum, caring too much about your hair, perfect eyeliner, unintentional resting bitch face, the satisfying feeling of hard work paying off, the snick of scissors during a haircut, sarcasm being misinterpreted as insults, long fingernails softly running over your skin, remaining scarily calm during horror films, always having carmex/chapstick on you, thinking up perfect comebacks on the spot, trust issues, the feel of cool leather against skin, waiting to win the argument when you know you’re right, diving so deep that you can feel the water getting colder, gazing into a mirror that is so clear you feels as though you could sink into it.

The Houses as Aesthetics (Written)
Gryffindor: busted tennis shoes, worn leather jackets, comfy sofas, coffee with too much creamer, painting your face for a sports game, scuff marks, hair ties on your wrist that never get used, cotton t-shirts, spandex, a room with no floor, no time to clean, dirty feet and hands all the time, fly away hair, the smell of sweat and dirt, red twizzlers, sweatpants, unzipped backpacks, earbuds hooked around instead of in your ear
Hufflepuff: clean keds, fuzzy socks, notes in lunches, hugs, mom jeans, no makeup, neatly trimmed finger nails, lots of bracelets, too many keychains, wind chimes, second hand stores, the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, over the ear headphones, smiling at strangers, fuzzy rugs, chairs in the corner of a room, dewy skin, sweet tea, chapstick, hand shakes, dipping fries in a milk shake, untamed hair
Ravenclaw: wearing the same pair of shoes daily, airpods, rings on rings, half up half down hair, cable knit or chunky sweaters, stress acne, notes taken in different colored pens, boyfriend jeans, baggy clothes, paint stained hands, chipped nails, smeared pen, writing instead of typing, self-piercings, the smell of wet earth, candles, dog-eared books, quotes for lock screens, knowing the answer but not saying it
Slytherin: Beats, doc martins, a shiny black leather jacket, skinny jeans, high heels, the scratch of pen against paper, lipstick kissed envelopes, one chipped tooth, tight shirts, tire marks, the smell of gas, stiff furniture, people being scared of your smile, always texting someone, decorating for aesthetic instead of personality, black cats, diamond studs, red lipstick and fine lines, perfectly straight hair

gryffindor: bonfires, dancing alone in your room at midnight, coffee stains, steaming showers, can be a bit socially awkward, licorice, jean jackets, photograph sessions with friends, road trips, sunrises, animal lovers
hufflepuff: determined, leather jackets, earphones, works hard and smart, sarcastic smirks, treats people with kindness, blasting music, respects rules, constantly sends memes to their friends, not afraid to stand up for what’s right
ravenclaw: inspired by nature, scrunchies, bullshits an entire essay and still gets a high grade, really messy, oversized hoodies, artistic, goes to coffee shops for the aesthetics, loves reading fantasy books, street smart, random facts
slytherin: very emotional but doesn’t show it, houseplants, old cottages in the woods, probably an artist, cries during sad movie scenes but won’t admit it, loves hiking in the forests, greek mythology, easily embarrassed, sharp minded

Hogwarts Winter Aesthetics
Gryffindor: Long, worn out scarves with ragged ends from being tugged on; the lingering scent of campfire smoke on your clothes; a rats-nest of a bedhead every single morning; the cheese refusing to break when you’re trying to eat a bite of pizza; wetting your fingers before flickering them through a candle to wow your dinner companions; fiddle; Christmas ornaments accidentally being dropped; the dryness of bright-red lipstick after wearing it all day; the mingling taste of red-hots and aniseed
Hufflepuff: Playing with someone’s hair until they fall asleep with their head in your lap; the taste of snicker-doodles right out of the oven; a random piece of glitter somehow stuck to your skin amongst your freckles; bright, freshly-painted nail polish; jamming to golden indie music; the competition between soaking up the sun and goosebumps appearing due to a cool breeze; fireflies; when your cat kneads their paws into your skin; draping Christmas lights over everything in your room
Ravenclaw: A tall glass of cold milk; massive pillow and blanket fort competitions; the fresh smell of pine needles; the sound of a record scratching once it ends; waking up with your face pressed to the cold car window as you travel; stargazing while laying on dew-soaked grass; snowflakes landing in your eyelashes; menorahs flickering; the taste of cool whip on your tongue after sneaking some from the fridge
Slytherin: Shaving after no-shave November; an unexpected thunderstorm that brings in a cold front; smudged mascara underneath your eyes because you didn’t wipe off all your makeup from the night before; the taste of pomegranates lingering in your mouth; the rough texture of sharpies against skin; inhaling the cold night air before exhaling it either like a dragon or a chain-smoker; trans-siberian orchestra albums; the spice of chai; wrapping gifts in such a way that no one can guess what’s beneath the elaborate paper
