When the show that’s been disappointing and letting me down all season disappoints me and lets me down

I think 9-1-1 really messed up with the back half of this season (and by that I mean the last like 4-5 episodes). This season had so many things going for it in terms of character arcs, and potential future storylines, and they disregarded pretty much all of it.
Before lab rats they had set up almost all of the characters with something for the season, and after they just dropped all of them??? For example Eddie’s whole choosing joy thing, and learning how to stand up for himself and what he wants, totally lost in the last few episodes because he learned that what he had chosen to do to get his son back and repair that relationship was wrong. Which like yeah Eddie really should have moved them back sooner and he belongs at the 118 with his family, but he should have realized that for himself, with some input from Chris, so we really get to see how their relationship has healed and how choosing joy helps that. But we got none of that.
Also we get barely anything from Maddie or Hen in the back half even though Maddie was set up to be worried about her pregnancy and how her most recent NDE affected her. And with Hen, they did such a poor job in showing us anything about her grief over Bobby, and the only real character moment we got from her was her turning down Captain, something that has been set up for her for a long time. Don’t get me wrong I think Chimney has grown a lot since the last time we saw him as captain and I think he would be great as Captain now especially after the last episode, but to basically take the position from Hen, when that is where all the signs have been pointing for so long kind of sucks.
As for Ravi, while I am so glad he is finally a main it feels like they didn’t give him anything this last bit. The climax of his arc was obviously him going to commit treason for the 118, which I was ecstatic about cause he is so apart of the family, but after Bobby died we didn’t see any of him mourning, or really bonding with the rest of them to cement that bond, even though we know he is truly part of the family of the 118 mains. I just wish we had gotten more time with him outside of the emergencies.
Don’t even get me started on Buck. Buck is my favorite and it just feels like we were strung along this season in terms of anything to do with Buck and his relationships, especially concerning his bisexuality.
Next Athena. I love Athena and I hate how much hurt she has gone through, especially considering this is the third time we have seen her grieve a relationship, and her future with that person. There was no need to put her through that again. We’ve seen her figure out a new future with Bobby after Michael came out, and we’ve seen her grieve over Emmett, the loss of their future together, and the loss of their past. Obviously with each of these she grieved differently and each of her relationships here were different, but with the way this show works they don’t show that very well, so they are comparable because they don’t show all of the complexities when it comes to her relationship and how she grieved differently. It just feel’s reused. Not to say that Angela Bassett didn’t do an amazing job with her performance because she did, but the show itself was the problem here.
There are so many things I can say about Chimney here. I do like how in the last episodes they gave him the arc that will make him captain, even though as I stated previously, I think it should have gone to Hen, because I do think he has changed and grown since the last time we saw him as captain, and I do think he will be good for that. However, I still think they really botched him after Bobby’s death. Especially considering both he and Maddie had NDEs this season. That could have created such a good partnering arc to her about how they feel about that. That could have been something serious for them to consider, about their futures, and just an amazing point to see more of their relationship. I don’t really remember if they gave him a clearer arc earlier in the series that they just gave up on otherwise I would touch on that as well.
Now for Bobby. I hate that they killed him off, especially in a way where he sacrificed himself. They took a character who was suicidal for a long time, who was finally able to be ready to live and live happily and they killed him in a self-sacrificing manner. I cannot repeat this enough. It feels like such a slap in the face to both the character and to anyone who related to his character in this way. I’m so upset about it. I probably would have been upset no matter how he died, but this is bullshit. He was finally ready to live and be happy with his family that he built, and they took that away. There are other ways they could have changed to show go let him live while still moving some else into the spot of captain, because I agree l that I think the show did need a change in that way, because they arcs and the way the show has progressed was calling for it, but I think there were better ways. I know it would have been out of character for Bobby to step down, or to retire without something huge happening, but I think maybe if they had just made so he had no choice, like an extreme injury(I know what show I’m talking about here but still), or something, where he could still be there for his family, and be happy, and grow old with Athena would have been better instead of killing him off. Also his entire send off felt extremely rushed, disappointing, and disrespectful to both the character and the actor.
Didn't really touch on any of the side characters here, but I get why we didn't really see many in the back half cause there was so much going on, but I missed some of them, and would have loved to see more of them, and also show how they were effected by Bobby's death.
As for the fans, I think it was an entirely disrespectful end to this season. Breaking promises that have been made in the past about killing off mains, hyping up things they definitely did not happen this season to increase engagement, queerbaiting(because yes they did fucking queerbait with Buck and Eddie, and they know they did, having a full episode about how Buck feels about Eddie, putting them in Buzzfeed together, and literally calling them Buddie in tweets and promotional things). I can’t speak for everyone but I can say for damn sure that this has broken my trust in 9-1-1 forever. There is literally nothing they can do to regain my trust. I'm pissed as hell. At this point I don't think I will be watching season 9. There are a few things that might change my mind if I happen to see them when it comes out, however this will not be the same as regaining my trust. Honestly, if I do go back and they do pull more of the bullshit we saw this season, I will not be continuing the show at all, which is a shame considering this show has so much potential (that is unfortunately so often wasted).

i am just so tired because there were so many moments throughout 8a and even the beginning of 8b where it really felt like they were laying the foundation for some really wonderful full circle writing and they were giving us reasons to trust them and hold on and believe that it was all going to pay off and then it just. didn't. they didn't follow through on any of the promises their writing made. they talked about eddie choosing joy as though that would mean him choosing la and the 118 and buck but then he takes the job at el paso fd. they showed athena being there for maddie and helping her and their relationship growing as though maddie would return the favor but then they don't interact again until maddie names her kid after athena's dead husband. there's little to no exploration of hen's grief over bobby or the difficulties managing her deteriorating coworkerfamily in addition to adopting her daughter despite how much time was spent on that storyline previously. they spent a whole episode talking about buck being in love with eddie and then never brought up anything about it ever again. i was watching 8a going "these storylines are really well crafted i think it's going to pay off really well" and then. zip. nada. i'm so tired.

it genuinely feels like something happened behind the scenes this season simply because it feels so disconnected? like the contagain arc completely set off the entire season and essentially put a stop to any prior storyline. it felt like there was a clear tragectory for each character before 8.14 and then afterwards it was completely gone.
eddie's tragectory seemed to be about picking the juice, choosing joy and reclaiming his own identity and having a choice over his own life - end of season, gone.
hen's tragectory seemed to be very family focused, i.e she wanted to protect her family (both Karen/kids and 118) at all costs and would do that, whilst at the same time fighting systems that have hurt people in the past - end of season, gone (based on the way she was, seemed like a perfect setup for captain and that's gone now)
maddie's tragectory seemed to be about her pregnancy and how she was worried that she'd end up like she did last time, and she needed to focus on her mental health and making sure she communicated with her family this time - end of season, gone. little to no story on her pregnancy
buck's tragectory seemed to be a mixture of being alone and being comfortable with that (again) but also with being attached to eddie. a lot of his storylines earlier this season seemed to be him and his feelings towards eddie being away and eddie in general. he also has been shown to do literally anything for him and chris because he counts them as family - end of season, gone.
athena's tragectory, at some point in the season, seemed to be about rebuilding her life and her happiness with bobby (making sure they are both comfortable etc). there was also a rookie arc for her, which would have been a great setup for her character and would've given her a whole bunch of new storylines - end of season, gone.
chimney's tragectory seemed to be intertwined with maddie's (makes complete sense) and yet that was explored for an episode or two. outside of that, from memory alone, he had barely any story until bobby died so ig his tragectory didn't go?
and finally, bobby's tragectory was about being happy to be alive. took him literal years just to be happy and accept his new life with athena and the 118; he was finally at peace - end of season, gone.
not only was the contagain arc a bad storyline for the show money wise and viewership wise, but it was a bad storyline for the season itself, because it halted every single characters storyline - and get this! they didn't even handle the after that well (excluding 8.17 from that because that actually dealt with it well).
whatever they do for season 9, they better have an outline for the entire season, because if they don't, it'll hurt the show incredibly more than it already has.

i think the biggest problem 9-1-1 is going to have moving forward is that we can’t trust them
we can’t trust them to not kill off a beloved main character
we can’t trust them to give them a proper send off if they do kill of a main character
we can’t trust them to stop baiting us and actually make buddie canon
we can’t trust them to follow through on any of the storylines
how are we supposed to get invested in anything if there are throwaway lines every episode and major arcs that last throughout a season that just get resolved in a quick montage in the finale
there’s no payoff for watching anymore because we can’t trust that they are going to do the characters justice

you killed the second chance at happiness of a horrifically traumatized woman that fought so hard for both of their lives (Athena)
you killed the pseudo father of a man that everyone leaves and who can't rely on his family despite his parents being alive (Buck)
you killed the best friend of a man who's going to blame himself for the rest of his life every time he thinks of him (Chim)
you killed a step dad of a girl that recognized him as her second dad that saved her and her mom's life multiple times (May)
you killed a support system of a deeply repressed man that could and always did turn to him for advice and help (Eddie)
you killed a beloved superior and friend for a woman that finally got all the recognition she deserved working under him (Hen)
and in an of itself you killed the actively suicidal character that even tho he took all the "right" steps to an actual happy ending he always wanted and made him the ultimate (unnecessary) sacrifice for everyone else.

yeah idk man maybe i just don't like it when characters whose whole story is about choosing to live and overcoming suicidal ideation end up dying in a hero sacrifice. kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth, not gonna lie.

I will probably be taking about how upset I am about 911 and what they did to Bobby Nash for quite a while because it upset me so much that it knocked me out of my two other latest hyper fixation shows (leverage(watched both series 4 times through already this year), and the apothecary diaries(i started the manga and the light novels for this one after one full binge, and have already watched it 3 times through already, but i haven’t been able to think about it at all this week)), and now I can’t focus on anything.
I’m going to be so insufferable about this.

This show is so committed to letting big emotional moments play out off screen. We didn't get to see the firefam supporting each other. We only had a few moments of how deeply effect Chimney is. We barely got to see how effected Buck is at all. We had like two sad Hen moments. We didn't get to see Eddie and Buck reunite at the airport. We didn't get to see Eddie finding out Bobby died!
Don't worry though, we did get half an episode about a mom who lost her baby in a fire and 8 years later thought that he wasn't dead and someone else kidnapped him, only for him to have died in the fire.

I’m so pissed off that my comfort show where I get to relax and laugh at my funny little firefighters is ruined, because it wanted to be edgy and “realistic”. Boooooooo. It they wanted “realistic” literally everyone in that show would be dead already like 5 times over. Boo! Booooo!
I don’t even think I can continue watching the show after this. The found family aspect is in shambles, and they didn’t even let us see them mourn at all. Eddie wasn’t there to say goodbye, and we barely got anything about his reaction to Bobby’s death. We barely got to see anything about how Hen is feeling, and Buck got like one scene to cry and then he was FINE???? I’m so angry. Don’t even get me started on the heavy handed metaphor they used to show Athena and us that he is really gone. I hate this show now. It has completely ruined any rewatchability. I just can’t even.

Twitch Streamer Mary Ann Skuttle AU
She almost exclusively plays video games, tho sometimes she reviews the quality and cuteness of plushies. Sometimes she updates people on her quokki pet's level or how her personal AC Island looks, or her longest running Stardew Farm. (Maru IS her favorite Stardew marriageable NPC because it reminds her of her "loser boyfriend".)
Sometimes she gets her friends to play games with her on stream, or they're just in the background hanging out. Once when a game comes out that Mary Ann is legit excited for (in her own way) everyone gathers in a little watch party in the background with snacks as they settle in for the Marathon stream about to happen.
If she misses some streams she probably tosses out a simple update about her and her friends being on a quest or something similar that she implies is kinda lame. Her watchers KNOW she's an adventurer but there is never any elaboration.
They also know she has a boyfriend but known VERY little about him.
Loser Boyfriend™️ Confirmed Facts
1. Loser
2. His quokki pets gameplay is trash
3. Also an adventurer ig
4. Plays drums sometimes
5. They officially met when she curb-stomped his ass at a sports tryouts and he got mad. (No elaboration)
6. He made her a switch capable of running ROMhacks and mods.
7. Half-orc. The only times they have ever seen him is once or twice when he wordlessly hands her a mango soda from off screen. They have an entire emote of his hand with the soda bottle they spam sometimes. (#bottleboi)
Which is to say when Gorgug shows up in the background of the stream one day, cause Mary Ann rearranged or was streaming from somewhere else temporarily, people start freaking out.
Mary Ann notices but only comments "yeah, that's my loser boyfriend. Don't worry about it."
THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE MARY ANN!!!
THAT'S GORGUG THISTLESPRING, FAMOUS 4X WORLD SAVING RENOWN ADVENTURER BEFORE HE EVEN FINISHED HIGHSCHOOL, THE FIRST EVER BARBIFICER IN THE WORLD, AND GODDAMN FAMOUS ROCK STAR.
YOU CALL HIM YOUR LOSER BOYFRIEND?????
"His quokki pets gameplay is trash."

I have Scary Marlowe on my brain constantly. She’s so fucking relatable. I too was a sad, angsty teen, who didn’t have a great relationship with the man who wanted so badly to be my dad(Scary’s relationship with Terry Jr.). I too was almost searching for trauma to make the way I felt seem justified(Terry to Scary transition, as well as just Scary’s enter behavior) I too was in such a messed up head space that seemed better on the outside(Scary being Terry after trying to talk to the doodler) that when I lost him it broke me and if I had just let him in things would have been better(Scary after Terry Jr. died and she was kinda but not really there). I have so many thoughts about her, and I want to give her a hug, because she reminds me so much of a younger me.
