I’d say the thing we all have in common is that we like the feeling of being connected to other people. It’s nice, it’s validating, it makes us feel safe, and um, I think we’re all in search of something real, like reaching out for someone else, and getting something real in return, whether that’s real friendship, real honesty, real love, I think that’s something that every single person is trying to find in one way or another. And so this album is called reputation, and when I was making this album, I did a lot of thinking, about, ‘what does our reputation really mean to us?’ How much does it matter in the grand scheme of things? At what age do we start processing the fact that we have a reputation, like stories about us that exist when we’re not around? And I think that at the end of the day, what can be so scary about having a bad reputation, or one you feel doesn’t match up with who you are, I think the fear that we have when we think, ‘oh my god, someone is talking about me behind my back,’ or, ’that rumor isn’t true,’ and what’s scary about that is having a bad reputation, or gossip, can feel fake. It’s that it’s disconnected from you, and what people say when you’re not around, and what we fear when we get anxious about our reputation, is that we fear that something fake, like a reputation, or gossip, or whatever, can get in the way of you finding something real, like real friendship, or real love, or someone who really sees you for you. So I guess when I was thinking about all of that, I just, I wrote this song about how things to do with our feelings, and relationships, and trying to find someone who gets us, all that can feel really, really delicate.

It’s National Siblings Day! My brother Austin is one of my best pals, and I’m really proud of him because he’s in a film that came out today called We Summon The Darkness (which he also co-produced). Photo by Gigi. My facial expression by 3 glasses of wine.

i’ll never get over how unwanted taylor felt before reputation and how scared she was to let everyone back in and show herself again but she did it for us. she released an album and didn’t explain herself to anyone but the fans she let in her home and her heart and her life and i’ll never be more thankful for a person or an album. it really means everything to me that we were able to show taylor how much we love her and how wanted she really is after everything that happened to make her fee otherwise.

so today, today is a special day. 30 years ago today, on December 13th 1989 a girl named Taylor was born. 30 years later she was named artist and woman of the decade. today we celebrate Taylor Swift. for the last decade, you have grown as a artist and grown into the most influential, powerful and passionate women. you have been the voice for people who don’t feel like they have rights, or people who are experiencing the pain of heartbreak yet can’t quite find the words to explain it. but your lyrics are what gets us through that pain. you have taught us the meaning of love, all different types of love. the bad, the good and the inbetween.
watching you grow up has been an honour. growing up beside you has been absolutely incredible. i still remember at the start of this decade receiving speak now as part of my christmas gift in 2010. i had been gifted many cds but yours is the one that i clinged too and played on repeat for hours on end. as a 7 year old girl at the time my mum expected my love and passion for your music was a phase. but here i prove today, almost 10 years later that it was not. i am 16 years old going on 17 next year, you are still one of the biggest parts of my life. you have been my best friend. my older sister and hero. reputation changed my life, seeing you on tour, experiencing the feeling of being where i belong, being genuinely happy in a moment and loving where i was at that point of time. being in auckland with you and 40,000+ who were there for the same reason i was, felt like home and i felt welcome and free.
you taught my so many lessons, even ones i didn’t even think i needed to learn. you always believed in us and most importantly believed in yourself. you never gave up despite every hard ship and obstacles that occurred along the way. thank you thank you thank you for teaching me to never lose hope and to never let anybody who tries to bring you down or somebody who does not know or care about you, define your success, your beauty and the your way that you see yourself. thank you for being kind, passionate, loving, genuine and kind hearted. thank you for sticking up for the rights that women in the music industry deserve. and fighting for what is right in the world.
you influence me every single day. you are my artist of the decade. i believe in you and i always will. from myself here in new zealand to you, i send my love and support.
Happiest of birthdays to you. May thirtay be one of the most incredible years yet. i love you. - aaliyah x @taylorswift

Taylor Swift: artist of the decade đŸ„ș
continually you make me prouder every single day. you teach me lessons, you’re my shoulder to cry on. you have now been in my life for the last decade. you have been by my side as i have grown up and i have been by yours, every step of the way. taking home 6 AMAS tonight is something so well-deserved. you have worked so hard for every thing you have and along the way have been my best friend. i’ll forever keep you close to my heart. you are my absolute shining light in my life and without you and without your genuine love, kindness and warmth i have no idea where i would be. but right now, i know where i’m supposed to be will come with hard work and determination. and love. you taught me that although life will throw bricks at you and things may crumble over night. everything happens for a reason and never give up on your hopes and dreams. because someday you will get to where you are going, and you will know it was you who did this. you give me hope and you show me how important love is. i’ll never forget something you once said that became a very important lesson in my life, is that being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind.
i love you. thank you for everything.
with all my love, Aaliyah
