SCRATCH N’ GIF
For this project I chose to pick a story that i could show the most movement and diversity in. A storm at sea seemed fitting as it allowed me to show heavy movements with the water and the boat while also the subtlety of the sun shining by simultaneously increasing and decreasing the size of the emoji.
When i could not find a suitable backdrop, I explored the versatility of the emoji when i used the diamond 💎as the sky and the shirt 🎽as the water.

DOING EASY
I wanted to present something that i did regularly but also something where I could explore a variety of different camera angles in each element; the orange from front and birds eye view and then the trash can from the inside and also as part of a long-shot.
This was mostly an exploration of cinematography and how impactful they can be.

SPECTACULAR RESTRAINT
The module started with exercises that helped with observation and then with learning how to achieve a certain shade without using that particular color itself.
For our final piece we had to draw part of a still life from observation in line form and then select certain objects to draw both in detail or otherwise. I started off by choosing my objects for the detailed works and then by using color theory i determined color combinations for the greatest contrast.

MASQUERADE GRAND PRIX- “Chasing Cars”
This was a collaboration between the time and space studios where we were taken to the inland sea and had to select a particular activity of the day and perform it with handmade props.
I was part of a group of five but worked mainly with one other teammate - Marwa al-Kalbani - on the construction of the large vehicles. the car was exclusively made out of cardboard and we were able to manipulate it to our needs by ripping off the top most layer which gave it flexibility.
After the basic skeleton was done, we covered it in paper maché to cover the tape and give it a smooth surface and also to secure the seems and followed u with gesso to camouflage the writing before painting it.

BLIND CONTOUR
I looked at myself in the photo booth of my laptop while i moved my pencil on dura-lar to make the outline of my face and its features. I did them over each other 50 times for one piece and then 60 times for the second piece. for my final submission, I placed my first draft underneath the latter piece to create even more depth
Doing some layers with my left hand for variety especially since they had started to look a bit homogenous
Blind contour and gesture - Class of 2020 section 01 by Fajr- BASIC CONCEPT THAT WAS LATER BUILT UPON FOR FINAL SUBMISSION

MOBILE SCULPTURE
“Paint The Roses Red”
The idea for my theme came to me the moment I saw the sheets of paper that were provided to us by the professor. Their duality reminded me of the scene from the movie “Alice In Wonderland”, which most people would recognize. I designed the elements accordingly; roses, the paintbrush with paint dripping, and the heart with a crown above it
I took advantage of the sculptures movement, so when it would revolve, the roses would look both white and red, and the heart would be crowned.
My greatest challenge was being able to get all the layers to balance perfectly which was significantly harder with fish wire that was used for the first part of the module, as opposed to wire which I chose to work with for my final piece.

SOLIDS AND SECTIONS CASTING
I wanted to take a different as opposed to the standard and create something different which is why i took up the task of using balloons as my mold instead of a handmade one from foam board. I also wanted to push the plaster to its limit by making my final as thin as possible.
The part where i found myself struggling the most was figuring out how to make negative space in my sculpture and used several different methods to try to achieve this like tape, rope and solidified wood glue which I moulded. However the only successful method was a plastic glass which I hot glued to the balloon.

FASHION DESIGN
The real challenge for this project was trying to come up with an idea that was original and never seen before on the markets, given that pockets are so common and a part of several other commodities. So by the end of the project i had been equipped with not only new skills like stitching, but also the ability to solve problems in an innovative way.

GRAPHIC DESIGN
My pictograms all stemmed (pun intended) from my one object of interest; a rose. While keeping the rose my object of focus, I represented a male, a female, restaurant, elevator, sport, and a choice of my own; an ‘open and close’ sign typically hung at the doors of shops and restaurants.
Even though my illustrator skills gad improved since the beginning of the year , through the duration of this project, I was further able to expand on it. Aside from that, this project really taught me the art of the minimal and how you don't always need an elaborate design to convey your message clearly.

INTERIOR DESIGN
After keeping a 24-hour record of where I rested, whether it be seated or even leaning, I picked a setting that i saw space for improvement. What started of as a simple sketch of my idea later evolved when it came to prototyping. I constructed my design so that it would be mathematically proportional- however this process meant that i had to alter my initial design from 3 extensions to 4.

CONTINUOUS TONE
Although the reference is the same for both of my attempts, I had a problem in making my drawing hyperrealistic because i did not use measurements to determine where each feature should be once its scaled down and instead I worked through observation which is a technique that I prefer to use.

FEMALE SELF-PERCEPTION
Often it becomes difficult to separate habits from objects of meaning because often when you do something often, It becomes a part of you and it becomes meaningful when you give it enough importance for it ti be done on repetition. Which is why i struggled most with categorizing the commodities that I own.

FROTTAGE
For me, my individual piece which is in black and white, was more successful terms of both outcome and learning. I learned how to work on a large scale for an outcome where it was all cohesive even though there were a lot of different elements and patterns and techniques being used. However, I struggled more with deciding on how to do this and understanding exactly what the brief required which was something that was easier to do in the group work when three minds were at work.

ANIMATED FIGURE
Although my final submission was relatively realistic, the module required me to make other sets which required a decent amount of imagination which I had trouble mustering in the beginning but the greatest difficulty for me was the sheer number of figures we had to complete. There were in total 72 figures to be executed which became quite monotonous and almost frustrating at a point.

SURFACE URFACE
In this project i learned to do a more instinctive approach as opposed to a more thought out one. We started off with exercises that would basically have us “do” with multimedia.
For my colored version, I started of with creating circles by hand and following the theme of my object; roses for the color theme and then digitally added corresponding shapes and colors.
For the black and white one I started off with the plan to give the vector a 3D look but as I worked on it, it just become an experimentation of different patterns and how they act as darks and lights.

COLLAGE*
We were given an open choice when it came to the theme and I gravitated towards this; something that was a reflection of my keen interest in architecture and interior design. I used exclusively pictures of structures which i played with through overlapping and rotation. With the exception of the tree which I included for contrast, which is something I was able to achieved through color as well.
My biggest struggle was learning how to use Photoshop and Illustrator for the first time but I was able to improve drastically throughout the course of this module, which can be seen in my very first attempt.

Q-PINS
This was the first design project I was given so it was a challenge in its entirety. I learned the design process which i never new of before. From brainstorming about the imagery and planning on how to make it as minimal as possible so it would fit on the small size of the pin, to converting the story into a short concise summary.
