For the grey checked trousers the only thing that really didn't work was the length as these were quite a masculine object to begin with. So I took up the hemming on the legs.

For the blouse I wanted to turn it into a shirt so I cut off the hem and left it raw as I didn't want it to look too pristine, in line with this aesthetic I sewed up a hole along the buttoning which was a result of me removing the covering on the buttons. I chose to use a black thread and a asymmetric stitch to add that masculine twist.

As for the suit jacket once again the response that I got from the model was that the fit was very good. To put a male twist on the garment I added vents on the back which are found on men’s tailoring as opposed to women’s. I feel that with just small alterations like this, nothing to garish the theme of the project is articulated the right way.

Tailoring the women’s suit trousers. The waist was exaggerated greatly and sat uncomfortable on male hips therefore, I reduced the height of the waist and reattached the belt loops. In terms of the leg width I felt that the size was ideal as it allowed for a swing in the leg and reflects the modern re-emergence of wide legged trousers amongst young men.

I created the book in InDesign and it was a challenge in itself due to the fact I had never used the tool before. I think I definitely learn best through doing therefore I taught myself how to navigate the software. The end result was a 24 page book, the colour accents reflect the subtlety of the femininity presented throughout the instagram feed. However, I also remembered being taught in a Histories and Theories lecture that the colour pink pre-world war II was associated with boys as opposed to girls and found this intriguing and wanted to include this aspect of psychology in the project.

stage three: book

The next stage of the process is to present a physical manifestation of the project so far. The aim of the book is to put forward the ideas and research gathered, but also to put forward the aims of the project as a whole. 

Taking inspiration from books such as the INRUSSIA guidebook to Kaliningrad.

stage two: clothing

The next stage of the process of normalising effeminacy is to get more guys to be comfortable with wearing women’s clothes. It’s quite a one way system in terms of females being able to wear men’s clothing however it is still looked at strangely when males try to express themselves through wearing womenswear, exemplified with the reactions to Jaden Smith’s Louis Vuitton campaign. 

Therefore I am going to start buying up women’s clothes that I feel would suit the males that I have been documenting and get them to start modelling them for the instagram. Making small alterations to the garments themselves so that functionally they work with each young males physique.
