Hi! Afrah here! Just a self-taught, hobbyist artist & resident fangirl fuelled by dollar store coffee. Lover of cats, sushi, chocolate ice cream, graphic novels, and gaming soundtracks. I started this blog as a platform to take you all through my artistic journey filled with trial and error. To be able to draw my favourite characters is a form of escapism that I truly enjoy! I'm currently at a stage where I'm still learning and although I constantly feel self-conscious about my drawings, Art is still my biggest passion. I honestly do not know what sort of person I’d be without it in my life, as it has become something that quite literally defines me as a person.

Inspirations
For me, inspiration can be found everywhere. There are many things
about everyday life that fill me with fascination. Sometimes I’d look at the
sky at sunset and be blown away by the colours; my mind immediately
thinking about how it would make a really good colour palette for a drawing.
Sometimes I’d even stop and take pictures of the most random looking
places that I can see myself drawing, and use it as a background reference
for my next piece.
Other things that inspire me are tv shows, movies, animations, novels,
comics, fashion, etc… as you can see, the list is quite endless. From
these mediums, I pick apart and pull whatever speaks to me and try my
best to express it in my designs.
However, it is mostly through the works of other artists that helped me
develop my style. Each time they post a new piece of artwork, it fills me
up with motivation and determination. It would certainly be an absolute
accomplishment if I am one day able to inspire others into becoming
artists as well.
Do not be afraid to adapt styles from others. Just because its coming
from your surrounding environments and not your own brain, doesn’t mean
it cannot be turned into original work. Think of it as a flower that has just
been planted: The seed is already there, so it is your job to nurture it and
expose it to all the things it needs to grow to to become as beautiful and
vibrant as possible.
Here are some artists that I really look up to. I’ve used a combination of
different elements from each of their styles to make up my own:
Samijen and Ginsays for outfits and character designs
Elentori and Picolo for backgrounds and poses
Ikimaru for her use of colours and colour palettes
Other artists I really admire are Iruse and Velinxi, for their dynamic poses and perspectives

Hi! I love your art! ^^ Do you have any advice on taking commissions and selling art online?
Ahh! Thank you! ^^
So! You want to start taking commissions?
To start off with, it’s best to create a commission sheet to let potential
customers know how much they’d have to pay to buy your art.
I’ve attached some example commission sheets of other artists below,
and you could format yours in a similar way too.
Blakewood, A., (2019), Commission Info (Digital Drawing), Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/B4pkpdaBgra/
Samijen. (2020), Commission Info (Digital Drawing), Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/samijen
-
Make sure you don’t undervalue or overvalue your prices through. Try not to
price your art at a really low amount, as people could take advantage of your
service. Be sure to give value to your work, at the end of the day, you’ll be
putting in YOUR time and energy to create the artwork.
-
You could also use freelance service websites to gain customers. I decided
to start taking commissions through Fiverr instead of creating a commission
sheet, as the website makes it easier to manage and handle orders.
Time Management is KEY. Don’t overwhelm yourself, and make sure you
have time in your schedule to work on commissions.
-
Although I still lack trust in my own art skills, I decided to say “Why Not?”
and put myself out into the market. While its not a lot, I was able to earn a
profit, which honestly feels quite exhilarating as a college student doing
part time work.
-
However, one thing you must be aware of is that these websites do take up a
percentage of your sales in return for using their website, so that really tends
to be quite demotivating.
-
Anyways, I hope this helped! Let me know if you have anymore questions! <3

Tutorial
Hello! So I decided to make a tutorial based on my process for the following drawing, and I hope it helps you out!
To begin with, References are important! Especially if you are unfamiliar with
a certain pose! Most artists, even experienced ones use references when
drawing so that the anatomy does not look weird. Granted, if you are familiar
with the pose you want to create, a reference image is not necessary.
In this case, I decided to draw out this meme with two characters from
Heaven Official’s Blessing. ^ (The fourth image is one of my own hand
which I required when sketching)
Tip: Try making a Mood Board. Pinterest can be a big help with this aspect.
Fill it up with Pins that help activate your imagination. Here’s one of my
Pinterest boards for outfits and poses.
First, sketch out what you want to draw. It doesn’t matter if it looks messy,
the more lines, the better, as it helps your eyes distinguish what sort of form
the drawing will take up and help you understand where to put your Line-art
lines.
As you can see, I’ve used different colours for each character, as it helps me
figure out where the lines overlap.
Next, reduce the opacity of your sketch layer to around 25 – 35% and make a
new layer for your Line-art.
I’m using the G-Pen tool for my Line-art. My size was set at 30, but it doesn’t
really matter, it just depends on the size of your canvas.
Once your Line-art is done, it is time to add the colours! Simply use the
bucket tool and fill out all the required areas. However, there are still minute
areas that might not get detected by the bucket tool, therefore it is best to fill
them in using the Pen Tool.
Now that we have the flat colours, its time for shading. Set the layer to
multiply and reduce the opacity to around 20%, this is because you should
want the colours to blend in with your flats.
The two main colours for this part are Red and Blue as the two help balance
off each other, making the drawing more eye catching.
Use the red over warm, neutral tones and the blue over cooler tones to
create a complimenting look.
Now its time to colour in the lines to match. Set the layer to lock, and simply
colour in the Line-art with a slightly darker colour of your flats.
Finally, if you are not happy with your colours;
go to Edit ➡ Tonal Correction ➡ Colour Balance and play around with
the settings until your happy with the outcome! 😊
The background was a simply case of trial and error as I added and removed
colours until I’d reached a point, I was happy with.
And…. Ta-da! Its done!

Art Mediums
You do not need high priced materials to start drawing. Tablets with pen
pressure are fine to start with and your software does not need to be
state-of-the-art. The only absolute necessities are whatever you feel is
needed for an enjoyable session. In my case, that’s music and ice coffee.
(a lot of ice coffee).
Explore different materials and how they work together. Think paint,
pencils and markers. The ink of some pens can run when you colour your
drawing with watercolour.
Digital is my favourite medium as it allows me to easily cut, paste or undo,
and play around with different effects and textures.
The tablet I use is a Wacom Cintiq 13HD Tablet.
Wacom, [Online Image], https://www.wacom.com/en-ca/products/pen-displays/cintiq-13-hd
However, this tablet lies on the fairly expensive end, so if you are a beginner,
I would recommend getting a Wacom Intuos to start with so that you get
used to the digital art platform before investing in something expensive.
The software I use for all my drawings is Clip Studio Paint, as they have
some really cool features and brushes.
My canvas size is usually 3000px x 3000px. I recommend using a large
sized canvas and saving it as a PNG, as it’ll still have a good quality if you
decide to resize it or turn them into prints.
I mostly use the Dense Watercolour Brush for sketches, and the G-Pen and
Rough Textured Pen for Line Art and Colouring.
I really recommend downloading the T-Marker Wind Brush Set, which you
can find on the Clip Studio Assets Store. The texture it creates looks really
nice when used for backgrounds.
