On Exhibition: 2014 Alumni Exhibition

Wright State University’s 2014 Alumni Exhibition is on view through June 13th, in the Robert and Elaine Stein Galleries. Eighty-two artists are included within this exhibition, spanning forty-five years of alumni. The works range in discipline and style; my piece is a plaster cast relief, taken from the Confession Series. It’s a joy to have my work included with such talent.

It’s been roughly one week since I packed my supplies and readied myself for DSPS’ May Artist Connection. The scheduling of this program coincided with the 9th Annual Print Show; so it seemed only fitting to demo one of the processes I favor, collagraph.

  Having the opportunity to demo is such a gift; you’re exposing yourself and your practice to others. If things align just-so, the demo changes from one-sided instruction to something much more collaborative. Fortunately, Saturday’s program was the later.  The discussion was refreshing, and those in attendance were as invested in the print’s outcome as I was.

Having time to reflect, I feel humbled and hope those in attendance found the afternoon to be as rewarding as I did.

I don’t often share a creative space with musicians and fire-dancers, but Urban Nights provided just that. It’s difficult to describe the atmosphere that develops when the masses gather to celebrate the talents and offerings of Dayton. I joined the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative, in demoing print processes for Street Art On Second. The evening was filled with great people, performance, and music, a revival of the spirit.

The 9th Annual Print Show, presented by the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors and the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative, consists of sixty-six prints, from thirty-four artists.  The last opportunity to view these prints, as a collective, is Sunday, May 25.
