just a reminder for butches: you deserve affection and soft, sweet love. you deserve to be spoiled. you deserve someone who makes you laugh and blush and feel warm and safe. you don’t always gotta be the cool tough guy.

Nothing in this world matches watching your femme doll themselves up for a night out. Carefully planting kisses over her neck to avoid smudging her make-up, re-filling her wine, and grabbing the earrings from the other room that she plans on wearing. Watching her creative process come alive on her face, every colour, every line, so thoughtfully decided. Watching as she carefully straightens every strand of her hair, asking so sweetly if I can do the back. Clipping her house-key onto my carabiner, she plans to have some drinks, I plan to get her home safe. Out on the town, dancing with my hand on the small of her back, side glances that say "you're safe, you're beautiful, and I'm having a great time with you".

i've noticed that we have this beautiful lesbian tradition of printing. what is it about woodcut and linocut printing that we dykes love so much? there's something about it but we just love a good hand-carved print huh. something about the timelessness of it? the way it is relatively cheap and accessible? the care and the fact that the creator touched it, labored over it with their own body, this exact object that you now are seeing or even yourself holding. the roughness, the meticulous lines etched in. the necessity of some level of abstraction, stylization, forced contrast and texture. there's something about dykes and printing....

ABOUT THE STAFF
MEET MAX
Max is a butch lesbian living in Adelaide, Australia. When he’s not writing or reading about the lesbian experience, he can be found out in nature, captivated by a frog, or perhaps an earthworm.
MEET RILEY
Riley is a butch lesbian living with their femme fiance (and old man of a cat). In between studying their honours in lesbian horror fiction, they read and write novels, craft earrings, and play video games.

I neeeeed people to stop conflating femme with “gender-conforming lesbian.” Both butch and femme are inherently gender nonconforming because they’re based in redefining masculinity and femininity in ways that don’t involve men. That’s like half the definition. Some of us have all of our body hair. Some of us have short hair. Some of us don’t wear a lot of makeup, or any at all. Some of us feel more comfortable in a suit than a dress. Some of us are loud, angry, and protective. Some of us aren’t women. Femmes are not a monolith of soft and delicate cis girls and I really need to see more recognition of that on this site before I go insane.
