Atal Bhujal Yojana PM Modi Launched a central sector scheme with an outlay of Rupees 6,000 crores

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched Atal Bhujal Yojana (ATAL JAL) in an event held in New Delhi on the birth anniversary(25th Dec) of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The CCEA approved for implementing Atal Bhujal Yojana (ATAL JAL). It is a central sector scheme with an outlay of Rupees 6,000 crores. 

It will be implemented for a 5-year period (2020-2021 till 2024-2025). 

The aim of the scheme is to improve groundwater management in 7 states, they are Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh(MP), Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh(UP). 

Out of the Rupees 6,000 crores total outlay, 50% will be given by World Bank as a loan, The remaining 50% will be obtained through Central Assistance from regular budgetary support.

Aadhar made mandatory for PMVVY pension scheme

The Union Ministry of Finance in its latest notification has made it mandatory to submit the proof of Aadhar number of senior citizens who have invested in the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY). 

This move was done to bring transparency to financial processes and to reduce the incidence of fraud. 

PMVVY is a senior citizen pension scheme launched by the govt on May 4, 2017, as a way of providing additional investments to senior citizens. 

Investment of up to Rupees 15 lakhs can be made in this scheme. 

Life Insurance Corporation(LIC) of India is the sole operator of PMVVY.

Govt approved projects worth Rupees 7,000 crores under the Nirbhaya fund

The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWandCD) has announced the approval of projects worth Rupees 7,000 crore including setting up 1023 fast-track courts under the Nirbhaya fund. 

These courts were decided to be set up in order to provide speedy trials of over 1.66 lakh pending cases of crime against women and children in India. 

The Nirbhaya fund was set up in 2013 with Rupees 1,000 crores corpus by the Congress party-led govt. as a tribute to a 23-year-old Delhi gang-rape victim.

Future Skills PRIME: Government approves Rupees 436 crore for skill IT professionals

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved Rupees 436 crore for Future Skills PRIME (Programme for Reskilling/Upskilling of IT Manpower for Employability) over a period of three years. 

The program aims to skill 412,000 IT (Information Technology) professionals in new technologies. 

The training will be executed by the Ministry of Electronics, IT, and Nasscom.

Every learner will be provided with a skills wallet in which he/she will get an opportunity to receive 12,000 from the government of India as an incentive. In February 2018 Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Future Skills Initiative.

Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana: Tamil Nadu tops in coverage under micro-irrigation for 2019

The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) (https://pmksy.gov.in) released the data on states with coverage of area under micro-irrigation (MI) for the year 2019. 

As per the data, Tamil Nadu topped the list in coverage under micro-irrigation. 

Out of the 3.64 lakh hectares brought under micro-irrigation, Tamil Nadu accounts for around 1.39 lakh hectares, 38% of the total coverage in the country. 

Other top-ranked states: TN was followed by Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh (AP), Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh (UP) in the 2nd 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively.

SBI inks $277 million pact with Germany based KfW fo energy-effecient housing programme in India

State Bank of India has signed a loan agreement worth of $277 million (about Rs 1,958 crore) with KfW ,a German state-owned development bank for establishing an energy-efficient housing programme in India. 

SBI Capital Markets Ltd.,a wholly owned investment banking subsidiary of State Bank of india will arrange the loan and grant facilities under this programme.

NPCI sets up subsidiary to take UPI to the international level: RBI governor

According to RBI governor Shaktikanta Das, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an umbrella organisation works under RBI for operating retail payments, has set up a subsidiary to take the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) model to other countries.

US replaced Kuwait as India's 6th biggest oil supplier, Iraq remains on top

According to the data furnished by the oil ministry of India to take the parliamentary committee, the United States (US) has surpassed Kuwait to become India's 6th largest oil supplier. 

It supplied 70% more crude to India, the world's third largest energy consumer during April- September 2019. 

It supplied 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil during the first six months of 2019-20. 

While Us stands 6th, Iraq continues to be the top crude oil supplier to India. 

Iraq supplied 26 million tonnes o crude oil to India during April to September 2019.

ADB slashes India's GDP growth forecast for FY20 from6.5% to 5.1%

On December 11, 2019, Asian Development Bank (ADB) has lowered India's GDP growth forecast to 5.1% for the current finacial year FY20 due to slow employment growth and delayed harvesting. 

In September 2019, ADB has projected India's economic growth rate to be 6.5 percent for 2019-20 and 7.2 % for FY 2020-21.

NSE launches interest rate options on 10-year government bonds

National Stock Exchange (NSE), the leading stock exchange of India has launched interest rate option (finacial derivative contracts whose values are based on an underlying interest rate) on 10-year Government securities (G-secs). 

These interest rate options are based on 10-year government bonds maturing in the year 2029 with coupon rate of 7,26% and 6.45%.

HDFC ERGO general insurance launched 'my:health woman suraksha policy'

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company, India's third-largest non-life insurance provider in the private sector, has launched "my:health Woman Suraksha policy", a comprehensive medical insurance scheme specially designed for women. Women aged 18-65 years are eligible for the policy and they offered a sum insured ranging from Rupees 1 lakh to 1 crore.

NPCI offers new recharge option for FASTag through BHIM UPI

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced a new recharge option for National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) FASTags through BHIM UPI (Bharat Interface for Money- Unified Payments Interface). Accordingly, any BHIM UPI enabled mobile app users can recharge their FASTags which would ease the traffic at toll plazas.

Fitch cuts India's FY20 GDP growth forecast to 4.6 % from 5.65 %

On December 20, 2019, Fitch Ratings Inc, an American credit rating agency has lowered India's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth forecast for fiscal year-FY20 (or 2019) to 4.6 % from the earlier estimate of 5.6%. Fitch made this deduction due to declining trade and consumer confidence. With the help of easy monetary and fiscal policy and structual measures, India's growth rate will be 5.6 % in FY 2020-21 and 6.5 % in FY2021-22.

HDFC Bank becomes 3rd Indian company to cross m-cap of $ 100 billion.

India's leading private sector bank, HDFC Bank Ltd, has become the 3rd company to cross market capitalization (m-cap) of $ 100 billion (over Rs 7 lakh crore) after Reliance Industries Ltd-RIL ($140.74 billion) and Tata Consultancy Services TCS ($114.60 billion). However, it closed below the $100 billion mark at roughly $99.5 billion.

BRICS' NDB commits $100 million to India's NIIF

On December 15, 2019 New Development Bank (NDB), formerly referred to as the BRICS Development Bank, has agreed to provide $100 million to India's National Investment and Infrastructure Fund's (NIIF0 Fund of Funds(FoF), that aims to raise about $ 1 billion to invest in up to 10 private quity funds managed by fund managers in India. ADB already in August 2019, granted Rs 667 crore (close to $100 million) ro NIIF-FoF.

Moody's revised India's FY20 growth projection to 4.9% from 5.8%

On December 16, 2019 American business, finacial company and rating agency Moody's has downgraded India's FY20 (Fiscal Year 2019-20) GDP growth projection to 4.9% from its earlier estimate 5.8%. The revision in the growth projection was due to weak household consumption.

India forex reserves cross $450 billion for the first time

The country's foreign exchange reserves crossed the $450-billion mark for the first time ever on the back of strong inflows which enabled the central bank to buy dollars from the market, thus checking any sharp appreciation of the rupee. India;s foreign exchange reserve were at $451.7 billion on December 3,2019, an increase of$38.8 billion over end-March 2019.

RBI 5th Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy

In its 5th Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy Committee meeting, the Reserve Bank of India has decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged to 5.15%. The MPC has also decided to maintain the accommodative stance of monetary policy to revive grwoth, while ensuring that inflation remains within the target. The main decisions taken in the 5th Bi-Monthly Policy Committee meetings are. The repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) left unchanged to 5.15%. The reserve repo rate under the LAF stands same i.e 4.90%. The marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bnak Rate also remains same i.e. 5.40%. RBI has also reduced the real GDP growth for 2019-20 from 6.1% to 5%.

RBI Launches new PPI for small digital transaction

The Reserve Bank of India has introduced a new semi-closed prepaid payment instrument (PPI) which can be used for the transaction of goods and services up to a limit of Rs 10,000. The loading facility of the instrument will be linked only from a bank account. This direction has made under Section 18 read with Section 10(2) of Payment and Settlement Systems Act 2007.

Loans worth over Rs10 lakh crore sanctioned under PMMY

Union Government informed that loans worth over 10 lakh crore rupees have been sanctioned till 1st November this year under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojna, PMMY. As per the finding of the PMMY survey, around five crore persons were working in the establishment for which MUDRA loans were availed between April 2015 to March 2018.

NEFT transaction made 24X7 from December 16

The Reserve Bank of India announced round-the-clock transactions with 24X7 facility under the National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) system on all days including weekends and holidays from December 6. These transaction after the usual banking hours are set to be automated initiated using Straight Through Processing (STP) modes by the banks.

Exim Bank povides USD 500 mn credit to Bangladesh for defence procurement

India's Exim Bank (Export-Import Bank of India ) has provided $500 million (Rs 3561 crore) Line of Credit (LoC) to Bangladesh for defence-related procurement in the neighbouring country. The Exim bank entered into an agreement with Bnagladesh's Armed Forces Division (AFD) in this regard on April 11,2019. The agreement became effective from November 7,2019, and the utilisation period of the loan is 10 years from the date of signing the agreement.

IMF called for Urgent Action by India

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released its annual review report on 23rd Dec 19 and pointed out that India is now in the midst of a significant slowdown. IMF has called for urgent policy action amid the acute slowdown to the reverse the current downturn. The IMF also warned that at the current debt situation and interest payments, the Government of India has limited space to boost spending for supporting the growth. The IMF has slashed its Real GDP forecast for 2019 by nearly a full point to 6.1% in October along with cutting the outlook for 2020 to 7.0%.

India Signs $490 Million Loan Agreement with ADB to Upgrade Madhya Pradesh Roads

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the union government has signed a $490 million loan for public-private partnership (PPP) project. An additional $286 million investment will be mobilized through private sector participation under the PPP modality. Under this model, the government will release 60% of the total project cost during construction, to be paid to the concessionarie in tranches Linked to completion.

RBI directs large UCBs tro report exposures above Rs 5cr to CRILC

The Reserve Bank of India has directed large cooperative banks to report all exposures of Rs 5 crore and more to the Central Repository of Information on Large Credits (CRILC). The move is aimed at early detection of finacial distress. The aggregate exposure will include all fund-based and non-fund based exposures like partial credit enchancement, including investment exposure on the borrower. As per the new rules, Urban Cooperatives Banks are required to submit CRILC report on quartely basis with effect from December 31, 2019. The CRILC was created by the Reserve Bank of India.

Gol to infuse Rs 8,655 crore into Allahabad Bank, IOB and UCO Bank

The Governemnt of India has approved the release of Rs 8,655 crore as fresh capital to three public sector banks. The list includes Allahabd Bank, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) and UCO Bank. The infusion will be done for preferential allotment of shares. Fresh capital amounting to Rs 2,153 crore will be allocated to Allahabad Bank, Rs 2,142 crore to UCO Bank and Rs 4,630 crore to Indian Overseas Bank (IOB ) for preferential allotment of shares.

RBI caps ledning on P2P platforms at Rs 50lakh

The Reserve Bank of India has capped the permissible exposure limit of a lender on Peer-to-Peer lending (P2P) platform for all borrowers. The aggregate exposure has been set at Rs 50 lakh at any given point of time. The step has been taken to protect the consumers interest. The lender investing more than Rs 10 Lakh across P2P platforms has to produce a certificate to P2P platforms from a practising Chatered Accountant certifying minimum net-worth of Rs 50 lakh.

Punjab to reate land banks in rural areas to boost industrial development

The Punjab Cabinet gave in-principle approval to amend the Punjab Village Common Land Rules, 1964 to create land banks in rural areas to boost industrial development. 

The new rule would pave the way for transfer of 'Shamlat' land for industrial projects to the industry department and state-owned Punjab Small Industries and Export Coporation (PSIEC) Shamlat land is one that does not come under habitation and cultivation and is considered as consolidatedland holdings for commmon use.

Up govt announces 25% subsidy and full stamp duty waiver for defence industry

Uttar Pradesh government has decided to provide 25 per cent subsidy and 100 per cent stamp duty waiver for setting up defence industry in the state. State will also provided all facilities including power road and fencing of land to the companies that will set up defence industries. 

State cabinet has given relief to the home buyers in Noida and Greater Noida region by giving exemption to the builders from penalinterest and other dues for the period their project is stalled due to litigation. 

Builders will only get this exemption if they pass on this benefit to the home buyers. The benefit will apply to builders who are set to provide homes to buyers by June 2021. the state government expected one lakh new homes to be constructed by that time.

Andhra Pradesh: Cm inaugurated Virtual Police Station at AU

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister inaugurated the Virtual Police Station at Andhra University. This is the first such facility in the State of Andhra Pradesh. 

The AU facility is seen as a pilot project and will later be replicated at other educational institutions. 

The inititative is expected to help bridge the gap between students and the police department. The Virtual Police Station has been set up on the suggestion of Andhra University's Vice- Chancellor to make it easy for students to report their grievances.

The First PashuKisan credit cards in India were Distributed to 101 animal framers in Bhiwani in Haryana. 

Haryana Governemet has set a target to issue 10 lakh Pashukisan Credit cards by March 2021. Under the Scheme, banks give Rs 40783 for a cow and Rs 60249 for a buffalo. 

The credit amount for goat and sheep each is Rs 4063. In the case of a pig, it is Rs 16337 per pig. For Hens, it is Rs 720 per layer and Rs 161 per broiler hen.

Delhi Cabinet approves Electric Vechile Policy to tackle air pollution

The Delhi Cabinet headedby chief minister Arvind Kejriwal approved an Electric Vechile Policy 2019. The aim of the policy is to help reduce air pollution in the capital.

Under the polic, the government aims to make 25% electric vehicles of all new vehicles registered in the city by 2024.

The Delhi State Commissioner of Person with Disabilities (PWD) has recently passed an order to almost 400 hotel and resturants stating that they should print menus in Braille for the benefit of the visually impaired. 

As per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 access to public services in mandatory. Many PwD people who visit hotels may be alone and Braille would be very helpful.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Hemant Soren was sworn in as the 11th Chief Minister of Jharkhand.

Governor of Jharkhand Droupadi Murmu has administered the office and secrecy to Soren, in the presence of senior political leaders and chief ministers from across states.

This will be his second stint as Jharkhand Chief Minister. 

The JMM, Congress and Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) alliance won 47 seats in the 81 member House while the BJP won just 25 seats.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, Liad down the foundation stone of two integrated processing Units of Sikkim Indian Farmers.

Fertilizers Cooperative Organics Limited, SIFFCO. SIFFCO is a joint venture between the world's biggest fertilizers Cooperative, IFFCO, and Government of Sikkim. 

The major commercial crops in which Sikkim IFFCO WILL operate are ginger, Tumeric, large cardamom, and buckwheat. 

Its aim is to produce and market the organic produce of the country and especially from Sikkim and other north-eastern states of India.

Trakeasoftware: Haryana Police became the first to introduce in Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL)

Haryana Police has introduced a unique barcoding software Trakea to enable foolproof security of the samples collected in Forensic reports. 

Haryana became the first state in the country to introduce this unique barcoding system. Manohar Lal Khattar Chief Minister of Haryana inaugurated the TRAKEA barcoding system of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Madhuban Haryana. 

The software was developed by a software engineer.

Odisha: CM Naveen Patnaik Launched Madhup app to help school students

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched the Madhu app. 

It is an e-learning mobile application that will help school students to understand their subjects and the most efficient way. 

The app is named after Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das. The app is developed by the Ganjam district administration for school students. 

Through this app, the students will be able to access the video explanation of the topics they were taught in their classrooms.

Inner Line Permit (ILP): Meghalaya Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution to bring the state under ILP

The Meghalaya Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Government of India to implement inner Line Permit in the state under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873.

The one-day special session was conducted with the sole intention to pass the resolution view of the demand by the indigenous residents of the state for implementation of ILP. 

Inner Line Permit (ILP) is an official travel document issued by the Government of India to allow inward travel of an Indian citizen into a protected area for a limited period.

The document is an effort by the government to regulate movement to certain areas located near the international border of India.
