Covid-19: A Threat to Humanity
The arising crisis today that we are into affects many lives. From social gatherings, works, and even our studies. Due to this crisis, there is a great impact on the school and the lives of the students in facing the new and a whole different level of adapting the new ways of the teaching-learning process. Since this thing is new to us, there are a lot of adjustments we faced in adapting this kind of method. Mon from Ateneo shared the struggles of online class since the admin suggested to have their summer class online and many students don’t agree with this due to different reasons such as books that are needed for the online class were left at their dorms in Davao and the student went home to their provinces. We could really see the struggle that they are in. Their concerns also to their grades since many got failed. The summer class is still not sure to be implemented since we couldn’t deny the fact that major subjects are quite difficult and need face-to-face discussion rather than do it online. Another challenge of Gwen from San Pedro emphasized that it is really a challenge to her because of the slow internet connection and all the subjects have exams and write-ups and the deadline is on that particular day. Another thing is, not everyone has things to use for online classes like laptops and etc. It is also difficult to stop the online class since the students work hard not to fail on a particular subject. They used the Zoom app for learning but still not ideal because of the slow internet connection and costly for those who just use data connection. This is agreed by Jasmin from Cjc since not everyone comes from a well-off family and mostly uses data connection since they don’t have wifi and also things to be used for online class so there is really a struggle in accessing the activities to be done. In addition, it is very difficult for those who use data connection, it is costly and it will add up to the burden of the parents who have no work as of now because of this crisis. We all have a lot of struggles and these are the struggles that the students are facing in the midst of this terrifying crisis. A very great adjustment and challenge that we are into considering those factors mentioned above. Considerations for these factors we hope to be emphasized. It is true that everyone needs to adjust but taking these struggles into considerations must be heard because of the reality of the life that some of the students have doesn’t fit the ideal things that the school wants to happen.
On the other hand, the government intervention here in the Philippines somehow seemed to be unruly. The very first country to be reported with numerous people affected by the pandemic virus was China to be particular, Wuhan. After Wuhan, countless countries followed and the Philippines as of now is considered to be part of it. Sadly, government intervention seemed to be reacting less facing this pandemic affecting the whole nation. In the very first week, the Philippines still allow different nationalities to enter our country. There were no orders posted to stop them from coming in where in fact it should only be OFWs allowed entering the state. Moreover, the frustration comes to worse when there was no enough budget for health workers, volunteers or commonly known as frontliners. Not only that, but the budget was also too short that would not address the people’s basic needs. However, after how many weeks the government officials started and conducted a mandatory lockdown or enhanced community quarantine in the whole Luzon. As well as here, the whole Davao region conducted a total lockdown and in particular, the Davao City is also experiencing the said lockdown. Mayor Sarah Duterte together with the help of police officers, local government units of the region reinforced the law of everyone staying at home instead of roaming around the city and the whole region. Mandatory personal protective equipment for everyone also was ordered. We are to stay and work at home. We were also reminded by the fact of keeping personal hygiene, wearing face masks and social distancing. Action by our local government officers were visible 24/7 all around. The government intervention when it comes to the delivery of the goods also was somehow slow. Until now, people are still waiting for the goods to come. All in all, the government needs to reinforce their rules as facing this pandemic covid19. The urgency to address the said matter is highlighted to move forward as to focusing on every Filipinos’ day to day challenges of the threat of covid19.
Pandemic COVID-19 has been the center of attention today because of its rapid rise outbreak. The disease is highly infectious which causes anxiety and fear among the people. By that, there are some people are eaten by their anxiousness. Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations like this. We have interviewed some persons in different schools on what they observe to the general public nowadays on their attitude towards this pandemic virus outbreak. According to Gwen who studied in San Pedro College, there are some people now are panicking which leads them to easily trust unreliable sources of information. They tend to trust everything that is posted on Facebook without knowing the credibility of the person who relays the information. There are times that social media especially Facebook can only cause panic to the people. As much as possible they should rely on reliable news and also we should be responsible for ourselves like practicing social distancing and even sanitizing. In connection to this, according to Mon at Ateneo de Davao University, people now are toxic ones because the only thing they knew is always blaming. He said that in times like this people should portray positive thoughts. The target of this virus is our immune system so we should not stress ourselves and just follow what the government implemented. Moreover, Jasmin who studied at Cor Jesu College, said that everyone should watch the news it is more reliable than on Facebook wherein some of it contains fake news. Those persons have the right opinions. Fake news spreads easily today because of social media which makes people panic and build anxiety and fear from it. Before you share information, make sure to read it properly and you see it in the news in order to determine the accuracy. The best source to go about the health information in this pandemic COVID-19 is your government health websites especially the World Health Organization (WHO) website.
