many thoughts while playing bg:ee about jaheira+khalid and gorion's ward ... i interpret gorion putting them in their care as a sort of godparent situation and it makes it even more painful to me if i consider ios my "canon" bg3 character because its a half-elf college of swords bard that i sort of run like a jester............... so i made cyr'll my GW a half-elf jester because i wanted jaheira seeing ghosts.

because like... upon playing my second durge (seathrún) im just falling in love with how supportive and firm jaheira is ALL OVER AGAIN. shes not pulling punches but shes also very solid in her care for them. she + minsc are the only companions that can really give durge the sense of It'll Be Okay. astarion gives them a kindred spirit (for better and for worse) and minthara can egg them onto power and the rest of the companions are varying levels of ",,,,thats crazy!" but are too busy with their own god-problems. sometimes literally. which is fine! but i think its so important that they added companions who just affirm to the dark urge that its okay. theyre not doomed. because they KNOW the situation personally and aren't working off of tales.

jaheira is soooo clear that (if durge wants to choose to defy their father) theyre safe with her and she wont leave their side and minsc giving durge unconditional love that they wouldnt get from their own father....drives me crazy. honestly.

and with seathrún..... romancing wyll it just makes me think of how minsc is wylls hero. but also minsc is the hunter of bhaalspawn. but also minsc as durges self proclaimed uncle.... the precarious relationship baldurs gate has with bhaalspawn vs the ravengard son marrying one

also like. durge's chosen family being jaheira and minsc (in a redeemed run anyways). who are the cities heroes and protectors and they both fought bhaalspawn and found a good friend in gorion's ward……….. minsc who has a statue and wyll looked up to him and jaheira who's group keeps the city safe in a way the fist cant and karlach looked up to her………. wyll and karlach being the only people who leave if durge chooses violence……

I’m playing BG3 again and I’m getting so lost in thoughts about my Dark Urge character. Because I don’t think he did all the stuff canon implies or says, more so that those end up being inflamed things spilled about as rumors, whether because of Orin or similar or not.

He definitely started out as a major resist Durge, but over time that changed bc of the worsening urges. He thought he could channel it, stay good, fix himself. But he couldn’t. Despite murdering people he deems bad only at first it spirals, snowballs, the urges keep bucking up even with his tight control of it. He loses sight of what good and bad mean. He falls in with Gortash, falls for him, and they’re both horrid vile men working together, living together, loving together for very unloving gods. An endless sum of blood on their hands.

When Tamlen is tadpoled he finally starts to properly see the world again. Get more on the path he wanted when he was first spending those centuries resisting his father and the urge. I feel like he’d have the slayer from the start bc of all the killing he did but he doesn’t know. He and Astarion walk the path together that he and Gortash couldn’t. Stepping away from gods and masters, and then actually doing good. Rather than damning others and putting them under their boot they free them and countless others. Fighting for the little guy, seeing the cracks and flaws in his previous thinking once the memories pour back. It’s a toughie, and it it is very hard for him not to fall back into things when Gortash is before him again, but he thinks about the smaller folk, all those being damned, thinks about the tieflings and the shadow curse and everything else. So he kills Orin, kills Gortash, and damns his father.

His growth is hard for him, as it should be, he has a lot to repent for. A lot to fix. A lot to heal. But with a head of his own it becomes easier. And with time he helps mend the gaps he broadened with his knives and claws
