You might not know me, but I know you, and not in a vague kind of way. What the hell are you talking about? Your name is Mueller Hayes. You joined the Academy in ‘95, spent your first year on patrol. Speeding tickets for your friends quickly disappear, a little cash for courtesy. Nothing major. Nothing worth making a fuss over. But I see the patterns in your life, even if you don’t. Fast forward a few years, and, well. Here you are, huh? Got your heard smashed up against the cold tile under the weight of all your bad decisions, and a 600 FICO score. Which is why Paul Gomez owns you.

EO drabble
SPOILERS for new OC EP
--
He can't help but stare at her sceptically from across the table.
‘What?’ she demands, her tone a mixture of amusement and self-consciousness.
‘Olivia Benson, Captain and Chef extraordinaire,’ he muses. ‘Knew one would happen, but have to admit I'm shocked by the other.’
She rolls her eyes, just as he knew she would. Various bowls clatter as she moves around the kitchen with an ease he never envisioned.
‘What, you thought I’d be a Detective forever?’ she asks, chopping some poor vegetable with gusto. Elliot snorts.
‘Nah, I knew your career would take off without me holding you back,’ he says, suddenly failing at keeping the conversation light. He has veered into painful territory by mistake, and hastens to put it back on track. ‘Be honest with me…when did you transform from having an empty fridge with a drawer full of takeaway menus, to someone who is whipping up lunch from scratch?’
Olivia doesn’t respond, and he isn’t sure if she just wants to ignore his question or if she is too focused on finishing the cooking. Eventually, she places various serving bowls on the table, waving him away as he attempts to stand and help.
‘If you’re so sceptical about my cooking abilities, why did you agree to have me cook lunch?’ she replies to him with her own question, dropping into the chair opposite and gesturing at him to help himself to the impressive spread of food.
‘I just wanted to spend time with you,’ he admits, raw honesty seeping into his words. She nods slowly.
‘I learnt because of Noah,’ she says, offering up her own moment of vulnerability.
There is a comfortable silence, their eyes meeting in a shared understanding. He feels his lips curl up into a small smile, Olivia mirroring him a second later.
‘Go on, try some,’ she urges, breaking the moment. He feels her unwavering gaze on his face, as he takes a heaping spoonful of her homemade coleslaw, choosing to trust her abilities as he has done so many times in the past.
As the flavor hits his tongue, he can’t help but hum in surprised appreciation. Not only does it taste amazing, but he’d be hard pressed to think of a time when he’s had better.
‘This is delicious…Noah is a lucky kid,’ he announces, scooping up a second bite. ‘Some things really do change.’
‘Not all changes are bad either,’ she reflects.
He reaches out, brushing his fingertips against hers, gratified to feel her grasp on.
‘Not bad indeed,’ he agrees.
