Yes? I mean, there certainly tales of beastshifts over in Vienmara, but that… can’t possibly be true. If it were, surely the locals would have called upon the Emberflame branch… right?

There are 13 Archduchies in Meulyan, each named after the 13 heros of Meulyan in some form. Here is an abridged guide.

Hawkon, the capital archduchy. Large cities abound, and in the most central city lays the spring palace of the imperial family, and more importantly, the school you will be attending.

Badlands, the original name falling out of favor several generations ago, the mines of this archduchy run deep, with popular theories stating that the archduchess’ mines lay so deep that they once belonged to the original archduchess, over 3000 years ago.

Leschiè, the archduchies that holds the cursed Silvergleam woodlands, a forest lush and vibrant but cursed to never be cut down lest a new tree will sprout fully grown where the stump once stood. The resourceful people of the woods however have taken a unique approach to housing here- making homes at the top of the trees, binding the flooring in sap to the base tree.

Dawnflame, the archduchy most recently ravaged by war, but has been healing. Several plants such as poppies and calendula have grown abundantly, which the archduke of the lands claims is proof that they’ve returned from the ashes, just as they always have and will. Notably he still acts as if they need to prepare, most of his children often training hard to join the imperial guard, though some can’t help but speculate this is to seem a capable and strong archduke in spite of himself.

The southern isles are a unique bunch, ancient magic gone haywire cutting these isles off from the main land, they have largely rejected magic, and yet clerics remain in high demand. Despite it all, the southern isles have always been a popular tourist spot, especially in the colder months to truly feel that cold delectable ice water, and enjoy the tropical fish year round- ice fishing for colorful fish being a common tourist experience here.

In contrast, the northern isles have taken up magic as a lifestyle, whole towers erected from the elements of everything and anything, some holding families, some spanning generations and dynasties even, while others are merely schools. While the focus on magic may have halted most other scientific development here, it has led to the development of crystal enchantment, a school of enchantment that allows crystals and gems to take upon the property of various other materials when struck upon, as well as transmuting various materials into gems and crystals.

Eclecfall, a stunning and vibrant land sandwiched between Hawkon and Dawnflame, the rivers of the badlands settle into Eclecfall, and thusly grants thus archduchy incredibly fertile lands, granting certain crops year round cultivation, the only archduchy certain plants can be cultivated. Notably, this archduchy also has the lowest population in the empire, even when compared to the Badlands, with most housing going upwards as desecrating the fertile potential farmland can be seen as an affront to the Cyrene goddess, also known as the goddess of judgment, death, and the mercy to grant either.

Staals, the archduchy that holds the largest Moonleaf farm in Meulyan, as well as the Astrimere, both of which take incredibly prominent places in the worship of the Demathia twins, a god and a goddess heavily intertwined with a few creation stories.

Seagen is an archduchy on eastern side, and generally plenty unremarkable. Plenty of hustle due to housing a few lesser ambassadors and noted matchmakers from Benevavol, as well as close ties to the Northern Isles, but other than that, it is a relatively calm archduchy. Plenty of good small game and chances to get your archery skills in.

Pharralyl, a rather unique archduchy only in its ties. As to Dawnflame, the youngest of the Dawnflame house was previously sent here for a ailment Dawnflame healers were unprepared for. Almost on cue, healers all over the empire came running to prove themselves, with very few of them leaving once they realized their establishments here had served them well.

Vienmara, a gorgeous archduchy, closest to Benevavol, and enjoys some close ties to the nation. The forests often are accompanied by rushing rivers and waterfalls, drawing an array of wildlife to each of them. Rare wildlife has been spotted here, and enthusiasts tend to make a pilgrimage to certain areas to properly scope out the wildlife. Each and every one of them.

Mousheim, the most of northern Meulyan enjoys very little of the beaches and waters other ocean facing archduchies do. This is due to a large mountain range that appears alongside the waterline generally, beloved to be a gift of protection against naval assault by the Cyrene goddess and the Demathia brother. A gift from both of them, but why? Regardless of either intention, stone is abundant here, as are entire villages being charged out of stone and mountains.

Rrrisma, a conceringly ecologically boring archduchy. An entirely peaceful archduchy to the point they have refused to carry any weapon. Crime is very low here, at the cost of even the most Leschiè blooded denizen considering most of Rrrisma’s stance on weapons and quarrels as strange.

It had been a few decades now, since Guisguarde’s failure at a secondary country for the empire; the remnants of the former colony being divvied up between the Dawnflame archduchy and the Badlands, though both archduchies formally.

Two decades since the outbreak plague found alongside the eastern archduchies and some of Benevavol, the bordering country to the East’s own lands there was found and stamped out. (Thankfully it was merely a fertilizer mixup, meant for moonleaf getting into the regular grain.) Most of you probably weren’t even born then, and yet here you all are.

Two decades since the last major incident, and forty years before that was Guisguarde’s fall on the Sibavaire continent. All has been peaceful these last few years, especially with close ties between Meulyan and Benevavol becoming tighter and tighter by the passing day. Many even speak of unification between the two nations.

Really, it was no wonder then, that one day a school would open up, one meant for handpicked young adults to foster their talents and become the best of the best. You remember how awe-inducing it was, to open the letter signed with the Empress-Queen’s own wax sigil inviting you to enroll…

Right?
