Digital Divide In The New World
Tumblr media
In the present day, we are advancing technologically. We used to talk and communicate in person, but we now do it online . Everything has changed since then, resulting in serious situations for everyone, notably in the educational system, for which not everyone is prepared. As a result, everything began to split. People's social economic position became a basis for this as well, because those who rely solely on their appropriate income are the ones who are less fortunate. Many young people have lost the opportunity to study, and those who do not have access to the internet have become alienated and behind. Some are fortunate, while others are not, because having the opportunity to study in the midst of a pandemic makes a great difference, whilst others are stranded and left behind due to a lack of digital equipment. We cannot avoid this predicament; instead, we must remain steady and assist those who are in need. Throughout the pandemic, digital access was a major focus. Due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19, services were quickly restored. Suddenly, the internet is the only way to apply for help, go to class, get a job, purchase online, and even receive food. Literacy is not available to some individuals all around the world. Others, on the other hand, do not have the same level of access to social media, the internet, and modern technology as we do. Their economic situation, the state of their country or region, or current technology could all be factors.
We should all be responsible users when it comes to social media. In the midst of a global pandemic, social media platforms assist us in communicating, conducting business, and learning. Cyberbullying and other digital divide are just a few of the issues that our society, and even the world, is grappling with. People who do not pay attention to his activities affect others, thus we must be proactive and cautious in our acts to avoid harming others. We must not enable people to oppress and tolerate their activities in order to avoid their terrible deeds. Let us address these concerns, as some people seek to harm those they perceive are unable to defend themselves. In situations where we encounter people in cyberspace who lack awareness or expertise about a certain subject or topic, rather than looking down on them or just let them getting bullied, we should try to help them with their difficulties by sharing what we know. We should also know how to listen to both sides and not do something that will further cause clashes in the cyber world. We must remember that even if we do not see the individuals we meet in internet, we must still be cautious and responsible when utilizing it since anyone we meet in cyberspace has a heart and feelings that can be hurt.

"UNDERSTANDING THE RELEVANCE OF INFORMATION AND NEWS LITERACY IN THE MIDST OF SOCIAL ERA"
Tumblr media
People who can send a range of messages, such as economic information, political, industrial, social, and cultural protection and security, have turned to the media as a source of information. Information dissemination channels are expanding in today's digital world, as is easy access to a wide range of data. First and foremost, media literacy assists students and other individuals in becoming more informed media consumers as well as responsible media producers. In a similar vein, teaching pupils media literacy encourages them to think critically. The principles of reliability and validity are used to assess the quality of research. They describe how successfully a method, methodology, or test measures a particular parameter. In practically every facet of human endeavor, whether conducted by people, community organizations, enterprises, or governments, accurate, reliable, and timely information is essential for efficient decision-making. It's crucial to cross-reference what you already know with what you learned from the source.
Increased access to social media as the new mass media in society is accompanied by an increase in the number of internet users. However, we must determine whether the information just supplied is correct, whether the sequence of events matches reality, and the meaning of the newly obtained information. While credibility checklists are well-intentioned, they are frequently ineffective. Students frequently have to examine additional sources to determine the authenticity of a source's statements. Outstanding imports of social media are not restricted to websites and applications. You can always get to anything you need with a single click. Consider the source and read beyond the headline to get accurate information. We must always remember that everything we do has a consequence, whether good or bad, and we must be responsible enough to handle things with care. By educating young people with media literacy, we can ensure that they are completely capable of filtering and separating the information that is provided to them.

MEDIA AND GOVERNMENT; A love- hate relationship
Tumblr media
MEDIA, as we all know, are the communication channels or tools that are utilized to store and transport information or data all over the world. When politicians and government officials are campaigning for election, the media has the ability to inform the public and disseminate the many remarks made by the candidates. For instance, presidential elections were held in the Philippines in 2016. Various radio and television channels held their own presidential debates and audiences. People were able to learn more about the agendas of the running presidents as a result of the presidential debates, allowing them to pick and choose who would be their president.
Because they have the ability to affect people's minds and choices, the MEDIA and the GOVERNMENT are the most powerful institutions. They have the power to influence how people think about current events in our world. These two institutions, in my opinion, have both beneficial and harmful effects on society since they can disseminate biased and incorrect information. They have a tendency to clash at some point. As a result, people are the ones who suffer the most since they are easily deceived. Because of events that have the potential to mislead people's decisions, they have devolved into chaos, and their comments and viewpoints have become polarized. Despite this, we would not be able to be informed or alerted about what is occurring in our world today if it were not for the media. The media serves as a guide for us to become more informed and transparent about what is going on in our government and throughout the world. Without government, there would be no discipline or qualified leaders to guide us down the proper road. In truth, the media and government are linked because the government requires assistance, and that assistance comes from the media. Even if they disagree at times, life would be more difficult for us if they didn't exist.

Essentially, the world’s continuous evolution has resulted in a strong need for modern technology, as well as a shift in how humans interact. Our generation’s most powerful weapon, social media, has a significant beneficial and harmful impact on our lives. Social media may be used to keep in touch with loved ones, learn about the latest fashion trends, and keep up with current events across the world. Individuals all across the world have discovered that social networking is the quickest and easiest way to communicate and to gain knowledge and information. As a result of the transformation in the social communicative landscape, any social network account may now be accessed easily via cell phones, tablets, smart watches, and computers all around the world.
Since we are living in a modern era where social media is prevalent, as an individual how do we act accordingly and responsibly when it comes to media? The methods that enable people to access, critically assess, and create or alter media are referred to as media literacy. Media literacy isn’t limited to a single medium. Media literacy education aims to raise awareness of media influence and encourage people to take an active role in both consuming and creating media. As a responsible audience, we must select the most relevant and valuable information in order to gain a better understanding of the event, circumstances, people, and everything, as well as to avoid misunderstandings and improve communication. With the help of information literacy, the ability to understand whether information is accurate or incorrect, as well as the ability to seek, assess, use, and transmit information in a variety of media. This knowledge would benefits us as individual because we can learn critical thinking skills, how to distinguish between fake and reliable news, how to recognize viewpoint and the message “behind” the message, and how to create media responsibly. Another point to consider is why we should learn all of these things in the first place? Because media literacy entails being able to acquire, analyze, and evaluate information obtained through the media. We can free our thoughts if we have these media literacy skills. We have the ability to make our own decisions and judgements. We can also express ourselves in a creative and efficient manner. To get a positive outcome, we must educate ourselves, become literate, and improve our ability to think critically in order to establish a happy and peaceful media and to spread love without negativity.
