See-through Dresses
One of this seasons most popular trends: sheer.
Playing with sheer layers is definitely in and being used by designers such as Victoria Beckham, Valentino, Prada and Rick Owens. This look plays with transparency and is clever by using multiple layers to show skin but without feeling overly naked.

From sheer jackets that show your outfit underneath to tops and dresses revealing underwear or matching slips, this look is playful and you can pick and choose how you want to style this look.

Victoria Beckhams Spring Summer 2023 Paris Fashion Week show is a really good example of how the sheer trend can be used. Theres fully sheer, dresses revealing underwear, some dresses that are only partly sheer and layering.

My customer
Tumblr media
My customer is an artist/ musician in her 20s. She was born and lived in Jamaica but moved at 18 to London to try and start her music career. Her music quickly became really popular with teenagers and young adults. she started with small gigs and eventually she was touring and releasing more music. Because of how quickly she was becoming popular, she became very rich very fast so has more disposable income to spend on clothing and accessories. She likes to be comfy but never wants to be ‘boring’. There is always bright colours or some sort of wacky pattern on her clothing, whether it’s joggers and a top or something for an event, there’s never anything dull and bland. My customer is adventurous with her clothing. She always wears something wacky and expressive and always takes the attention at events. While her style is quirky and unique, she never buys anything with animal fur or any accessories and makeup that have been tested on or hurt any animal in any way. She actively posts about the need to stop animal testing. She believes everyone and everything should be treated with equal rights, and everyone should have the right to do as they please.

My Era
The era i chose to use as inspiration for my designs is the victorian era. The victorian era really interests me because of the huge impact it had on fashion, women coming into power, and how it shaped todays lifestyle through the greater understanding in science and its use of factories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my four mind maps, i looked at Victorian machinery, Building and transport, interior designs and wall paper. I chose these topics because they aren't boring. In one topic theres a wide range of different things. For example, Interior designs includes everything from the colour of the sofa to the intricate details on a vase. The architecture of the ceiling to the shelves of piled up books. Everything is so different that the ideas i have for my designs shouldn't be boring either.

These are my developed body poses. For this work we had to trace over body poses we had been given but develop them in different ways. For example, for the first pose, i adjusted the size of the neck to make it thinner and created a bigger head shape. I also widened her hips to give her some more curves.

This is a face illustration using the style of Blair Breitenstein. She has a really unique style and I enjoyed doing this piece. I love her use of pastels and watercolour. her illustrations give a spontaneous, organised mess vibe.
It was difficult trying to get that spontaneous look. The face angle and the proportions of the face were challenging to sketch. In my illustration I do think that some face proportions aren’t quite right but overall i think the final piece turned out really well.

This face illustration is a copy of one of Jamie Lee Reardings illustrations
I really enjoy her style of illustration because its unique and different. My favourite part of Jamie Lee Rearding style is the eyes and eyelashes. The big round eyes and small pupils with large eyelashes really stand out on the face and I think it makes the whole face look peculiar.

Illustrator Mixup
This face illustration is a mix up of three different illustrators. Zoe Palmer, Charles Jeffery and i slightly used Laura Laine.
i didn't use much of Laura Laines style of illustration because i find trying to create a realistic look extremely difficult. However, i didn't want to leave it out so i tried to create a more realistic eye and eyebrow on this face illustration. If i was to use this mashup for any faces in the future i probably wouldn't incorporate her style into it but i am glad i experimented with it.
Using Zoe Palmer and Charles Jefferys style was my favourite style for the whole of this work. I love how wacky their illustrations are. every single piece they do is unique and different. It creates a fun and funky vibe which is exactly what i want to go for.

While doing these illustrations i also had my customer in mind. I think this wacky style of face illustration would link really well to my customer because i want my customer to be fun, exciting and unpredictable which is what this style gives. Every face i create would be different in some way so you'd never know what was going to change.

Lauren Tamaki

Jamie Lee Rearding
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my first face illustration. Focusing on the facial features and using two illustrators as inspiration for the style.
For this design i used Lauren Tamaki and Jamie Lee Rearding as inspiration. I love the face and eye shape of Jamie lee Reardings illustrations and wanted to incorporate that into this piece. I also love how the eyes have big flick eyelashes or eyeliner. However, i also loved Lauren Tamakis use of colour on the eyelashes. the different blocks of colour is really unique and i enjoyed using these styles. I think both of these illustrators would be good inspiration for the style of my customer because of the wacky and funky look they give.

The 80s
For my 80s research, i asked my grandparents if they had any photos or information they could give me. We searched through a load of old photos and found some of my parents and grandparents.

My grandma said she was more into the hippie style during the 80s. she wore flowy skirts and frilly tops and liked poofy sleeves or dresses. My grandad loved checkered shirts and flares. Always had long curly hair with a bushy moustache. They also had a lot of flower patterned or stripy clothing

This is a photo of my Grandma and Auntie from a camping trip in the 80s. My grandma said a lot of things had the different sized, squared pattern. It was very popular and everyone had these patterns on their clothing, furniture and other every day things.
