A Capella music is something that has become such an enormous part of my life.
From my first ever exposure to a cappella music (via Rockapella's inventive cover of "Eye of the Tiger"), to being a part of my high school's a cappella group (Desperate Meausures), to becoming a part of an amazing all female a cappella group, the FSU AcaBelles, I've grown with this art form, and it has definitely become a passion of mine.
There's something about the world of a cappella that absolutely astonishes me. When I first heard a cappella music, it was like I was hearing music on a whole new level. People were not just the singers; they were also the accompaniment. It bewildered me that they could do such things, just with their voice. It really says something about the wonder of a singer's talent, how we are able to produce this music without the aid of any instrumentation. It used to be that we had to rely on instruments. A cappella proved that we are able to stand independently.
I hate to admit it, but I feel like a cappella music is all I ever talk about to other people.
It has become my lifestyle.
As I am becoming more aware of the intricacies of this art form, I can't help but become even more curious and inquisitive about it.
I wanted to create this blog, not only to document my thoughts, feelings, and experiences gained from becoming immersed in the world of a cappella music, but also to open up discussion with others in my position; members of a cappella groups from completely different backgrounds, to share our experiences. I also wanted to create a place for those who may be unaware of exactly what a cappella is, but are interested in knowing more.
Know that I am not looking to teach others about a capella, in any way. I am definitely NOT an expert on it. There's still so much that I don't know. If anything, this is a chance I am taking to learn more about it. I am so ready to know all there is about this world, and I feel like this is a good place to start.
I guess that's about it for this introductory post.
I look forward to (hopefully) many acablogging days to come!
xoxo
Christine (:
