i really can’t stress enough how much i recommend regularly engaging with older art– movies, books, whatever. like, “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it” and all that, but also, there’s just something really fascinating and kind of beautiful about reading something written by someone who lived so long ago and really connecting with it, recognizing the humanity of people who once seemed like abstract concepts to you

huge fan of the amount of taped don giovanni productions where during the last little duet bit ottavio and anna have, the camera like. pans over just enough for us to see leporello having a mental breakdown in the back

”audio tapes have been discovered linking placido domingo to argentinian organized crime sects” Yeah. Sure. Why Not. I guess this is where we are. Shit is already goddamn weird enough.

i hate “content”… i hate calling everything “content”… what is it. is it art? is it a video? is it makeup? is it comedy? what is it. labeling everything as “content” strips away the effort and passion it takes to create things and homogenizes everything into a giant mass to be consumed i hate it ….

Gino Quilico as Don Giovanni and his father Louis Quilico as Leporello.
Casting a father and son must have added something interesting to these two characters' chemistry, just like when Peter Sellars cast twin brothers Eugene and Herbert Perry in the roles.
I've read that the Quilicos also sometimes used to sing in The Barber of Seville together, Gino as Figaro, Louis as Dr. Bartolo. A funny in-joke, given what the two characters eventually discover in The Marriage of Figaro.

the director of my don giovanni production has never seen an opera in her life but she just sent out a scene-by-scene filming guide and someone should hire her to write synopsis booklets for opera houses
