Evolution ideas for Galar’s fossil Pokémon

Given that Galar’s fossil Pokémon are pitiful, tragic abominations whose very lives are suffering, I wanted to come up with ideas for how they could adapt to their circumstances and more properly fuse into functional living beings. While I’m not a professional artist by any stretch, I came up with these designs basically as a concept of the direction that they could go if they were given evolutions. (Note: I did intend these to be evolutions of the original four, but I suppose they could also be considered redesigns)

Clockwise, starting from the top left:

Dracozolt’s evolution more smoothly merges the two half-bodies into a whole, though admittedly the center of mass is still quite low and it will remain bipedal. It has gained fangs and sharper claws to match its Dragon-typing. I envision electricity running up its back through the spikes, kind of like an electrical Jacob’s ladder.

Arctozolt’s evolution was somewhat inspired by Arctic hares, turtles, and igloos. The main idea is that it now uses the ice surrounding its body as a form of insulation to keep its core warm. The flaps on its arms have widened and stiffened to act like snowshoes, and its crest has solidified around two icy spikes to vaguely resemble rabbit ears. Its tail has diminished in size, but its hind limbs are far more powerful. [As a funny coincidence, while I was working on this, the Twitter account for Woodstock (the bird from Peanuts) posted a picture of Woodstock building an igloo in its nest. Though I had already settled on the design by then, they ended up looking vaguely similar.]

Arctovish’s evolution focuses on the idea that it twisted its face back around, so to speak. Its body now spirals around behind it, with things now aligned more properly internally (though as a result, its tail is now upside down, and its back legs have become upper appendages). Similar to Barraskewda, I envision this Pokémon functioning similar to a propeller, winding itself up to propel itself through the water at high speeds for short bursts, using its hard head to ram into things rather than pierce through them.

Dracovish’s evolution was actually the easiest for me to envision, because an amphibious salamander seemed like the perfect compromise between the water-breathing head and the terrestrial body. It can now breath on land as long as it can keep its skin moist, and its four feet all now resemble amphibian webbed feet. Given that it has flipped over, the red portion of its body is now the underbelly, and its spikes now stick straight out laterally so they don’t run into the ground. It also has a new (though somewhat stumpy) tail.

Rundown of the new weapons/skill effects: Ophilia: Holy Light - 11 Might. If an ally's HP ≤ 40%, unit can move to a space adjacent to that ally. Saving Grace - Alllows healing from this unit to surpass the target's maximum HP by up to (4/7/10) HP.. Cyrus: Lightning Blast - 14 Might, +3 Res. Gives +2 Atk/Spd during combat for every ally within 2 spaces (up to +6 for each stat). Analyze - Before combat, all enemies in a wide area around the target (pattern like Growing Flame) take 10 damage and are inflicted with Triangle Adept (4 turn charge). Tressa: Tradewinds Spear - 16 Might. If target foe’s range = 1, calculates damage using the lower of foe’s Def/Res. Rest - Unit recovers (4 HP/8 HP/8 HP and gains 1 special charge) for  every turn they do not move or attack.

Olberic: Battle-Tested Blade - 16 Might. +3 Def. Unit and foe cannot counterattack. Brand’s Thunder - Boosts Atk by 80% (4 turn charge).

Primrose: Night Ode - 14 Might. +3 Spd.  At the start of each turn, inflicts Atk-3 on foe on the enemy team with the highest Atk through its next action. Panther Dance - Allows an allied unit to act again within the turn, as well as granting them +4 Speed.

Alfyn: Memorial Axe - 16 Might. +5 HP.  If unit is adjacent to an ally, grants Def/Res+4 during combat (Def/Res Bond). First Aid -  Restores 8 HP. Neutralizes ally's penalties and negative status effects that last through ally's next action. Therion: Viper Dagger - 14 Might. +3 Spd. Inflicts -3 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on target through its next two actions. HP Thief - Regain HP equivalent to damage dealt. 3 turns to charge.

H’aanit: Master’s Longbow - 14 Might. Atk +3. Effective against cavalry and flying. Second Serving - When unit triggers combat with a charged special, gain a guaranteed follow-up attack.

Some vector clip art I made for a recent community open house day at the local marine lab! They were used to help demonstrate how different species depend on each other for survival. Most shapes were traced from actual photos of the organisms, but others (particularly the urchin) took some artistic liberties to get it to look decent in the style.

Bonus points for knowing whose silhouettes those are representing the humans!

Sometimes I get bored, and sometimes when I get bored I decide to braid embroidery floss together. I was working on this throughout all of last fall, and finally remembered to post it here!

Each of the 8 "ropes" is made of 4 strands of embroidery floss that were each about 26 feet (8 meters) long. Final length of each one is around 5 feet (1.5 meters).

Galvantula's not normally the type of Pokémon I would spend a lot of time caring about, but when I ended up raising one in White (nicknamed Smiter), I quickly realized how great of a special attacker it is.

My Smiter might be a little derpy, but he knows what he's doing with 91% accurate Thunder thanks to his Compoundeyes.

Phantump and Pumpkaboo - by ACCreations I decided to do something for Halloween! Gardenia better watch out, since the Ghost/Grass types are officially here, and they are awesome!

I like to imagine that my Pumpkaboo (Gourdy) is a brash, impulsive guy who manages to get my much more timid Phantump (Trevor) into a lot of trouble.
