Okay this is a really specific but my pretentious hippie coworker told me the best sushi spot in haifa is wine & sushi bar downtown and he is incredibly right and that is something that I urge you please not to miss.

I am new Olya (still working on my Hebrew) and I plan to move to Haifa since I want to contiune my M.A at The Technion.

As a native Hafiaii (IDK how to write it down, excuse my stupid ass Canadian ass) do you have some recommendations and hidden gems you could share?

I do know all about the wild boars problems and it does sound WILD. Is anyone even bother trying to find a solution for it?

• I suggest taking the Carmelit (underground railway) downtown at least once. That’s where most uni students like to hang out, and there are tons of bars, restaurants and bakeries in that area.

• If you're into museums, you can take the Rakavlit (cable car) from the Technion to the University of Haifa, where you can visit the Hecht Museum free of charge.

• A 5 minute drive from the University are the Druze villages of Isfiya and Daliyat al-Karmel, which I also recommend visiting (they have a real nice plant nursery and shopping center!)

• Don't forget to visit the beach! I’d recommend going early, between 7-10 a.m. Since it's currently summer break, there will be hordes of kids later in the day.

• As for culinary experiences, I'm really more of a coffee shop kind of person, so if you're into that, I recommend the following cafés: Silva, Breada, Cafe Deyoma, and Butterfly Cafe.

btw, the number of wild boars roaming the streets has dropped significantly in the past few months, due to a new policy by the Haifa Municipality and the Nature and Parks Authority to thin out their population within the city (although environmental organizations and some citizens are opposing this and have taken the matter to court... so we'll see how it all turns out).
