the name of this piece is called “Facade I,” created by someone called Noritaka Minami. when i originally saw this i was intrigued by the geometrical cubes which reminded me of a failed drawing of mine a long time ago, if it had been successful. wasn’t quite sure if it was symbolic of anything, but apparently this is of an actual structure that is or was located in japan (not sure if it was torn down yet depending on when you’re reading this). it was created in the 1970 ‘s with the lofty idea of being the future of living conditions and being designed with flexibility and change in mind. it didn’t live up to it’s goals however, and now it doesn’t see much use. the photographer wanted to somewhat preserve this part of architectural history in their pictures which seems almost sad and lonely now that i look at it with that context. to me it’s definitely a estimate to our ever changing perception of the future, what we think it will look like and what it actually looks like, after reality and the times change and set in.

the name of this piece is “Inside Out Picture of a Forest, no. 33″ and i was attracted to this piece because i was curious as to what it was. i really couldn’t form an opinion of it because i had no idea what it was, it’s like that conundrum of you can’t prepare for something if you don’t know what that something is. so for this one i have no opinions before researching it. this piece was created by a person named Regan Golden-Mcnerney. this piece is of a photograph of a forest that her family use to own, but ended up selling. since the sale the future of this forest seems grim at best, and she wanted  to show how the human world was twisting and ruining this beautiful place. unfortunately her pictures didn’t show this once processed. so she did to the photos what society was doing to the forest to help her portray what she wanted to. i personally think it works in the fact that it creates interest, and then informs, a very effective strategy to spread messages.

this piece is called “white tips and Jacks,” created by the photographer named Karen Glaser. i was originally attracted to this piece because i:
 A.) like fish, and
B.) i like how when fish are photographed underwater, they look like they’re flying
this piece is part of a collection called “lightrays,” i couldn't derive any meaning from it when i first looked at it, but according to the artist she wanted to photograph these creatures  in a way that doesn’t make them seem modern, but to make them seem timeless and almost prehistoric. the artist does have an, perhaps deep rooted interest in the qualities of water ecosystems and the idea of these pictures being photographed in this way may be symbolic of what may happen to these creatures should over fishing, illegal fishing, and environmental destruction of their habitats continue.

this piece is called “the Wilderness,” by Jacob Van Loon. I found this piece and noticed it originally because of it’s use of geometric shapes created by the intersecting lines and cool and complimentary colors against the contrast of the white and somewhat foggy background. to me it almost seems like a mountain over a large body of water. this is a water color painting that was commissioned for an album cover by the band “Explosions in the Sky.” there wasn’t an artist statement that i could find, but i do think that a lot of what makes this piece good is the amount of time put into this and process required to create this. i’ll leave a link to a video below demonstrating what goes into this. i think you’ll be surprised. don't worry, it’s only three minutes so it’s not going to take dedication to watch.

this piece is called “Butterflies and caiman,” Photographed by Mark Cowan. i was originally amused with this piece because of how the color of the butterflies sorta pop against the muted background, but i became enamored with the piece after realizing that the butterflies weren't on a piece of log, nut a little gator. the look of the gator is just priceless. when i tried to derive meaning from this piece i came up with something about how the artist wanted to portray a creature generally seen as cold and ruthless in a kinder and more gentle light. I was Wrong however, the story behind this piece is that the photographer was on a research expedition to study some of the animals and he came across this (because apparently it is some kind of natural phenomena relating to salt and how the creatures in a low salt area act in order to get the necessarily salt they require) he took a picture of this phenomena and that’s it. kind of a disappointing backstory in my opinion, but i’m not exactly sure what i was expecting. despite that this is easily one of my favorite photographs to look at in recent years.

the picture above is an advertisement for a documentary called “An Art That Nature Makes,” created by an artist named Rosamon Purcell, both of which is prevalent in the picture above. I was originally attracted by (or scared away depending on how you want look at it) was the look in the stork’s eye which caught me off guard by reminding me of how media portrays an unholy possession of a creature. I don't want to reveal too much about the project because its part of a documentary and I feel that it will do more justice than I ever could. but what I will say that it seems to be about process and how bueaty in nature is based upon perception and how we view it. ill leave a small trailer to the project below for you guys who are interested, I haven't watched the documentary myself, but it seems quite interesting.

the picture up above is called “Untitled 3,”  created by Rob Macinnis for his project which I believe is called “Farm Family,” although I'm not 100% sure as finding any info on the project was a bit of a hassel. I was attracted to this image because of how the animals are portrayed, animals that I don't initially assume go together grouped up like this in some dreamlike forest area. I originally assumed the picture was a critique on how we treat these animals environment and how they’ll haunt our dreams as a result. but that's not it at all, this project aims to challenge how we perceive and see these animals with how they’re professionally photographed giving the impression that they are as important as we humans are. Challenging how we view their intelligence and seeing if we can’t see a little of ourselves in them as well.

you've got to give these plants credit. they've certainly persevered to grow as big as they have in such unfavorable settings. now if only humans were more like these little guys...

for this one it was way brighter outside. that's probably what made it easier to photograph these colors.

when these were taken, I was looking for intersections. Probably should've looked during a brighter time of day, but oh well.

these pictures were captured by the photographer named Seymour Templar. I was originally intrigued with his work by the top photograph with the large amount of men in black suits which brought about a large amount of questions. it made me wonder if they were guarding something, or what they were doing. it honestly gave me a “Men in Black,” kind of feel. upon looking into his other pictures I found that his style includes intense shadows, and his subjects seems to involve cellphones, kissing, and smoking. if you are interested in more of his work then you should check out his Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/major1deegan/
he has a wide variety of photos and subjects there of many interests there so I think it would be worth your time if you're bored, have nothing else to do, or are just interested.

I was initially pulled towards this photographer by the image at the top with the cat lady being what I assume is interrogated by police because of the images bizarre nature and interesting sense of humour. what initially liked about this photographer was his ability to tell a story with only the one photo. I took a look at some of his other pictures but they don't seem to show the same degree of humor and detail, although some still slightly ironic like the picture with the man checking out a woman whilst holding someone else's hand. despite that I appreciate his ability to create images with enough contrast to make them dynamic with varying subjects from various avenues of life. I could not find any artist statements however, and thus these are only my opinions, nothing to support my theories. this photographer still has many other great street photographs and if your interested then click the following link: http://beam.zackarias.com/index/G0000d6rczdaBCK4

this piece I could not find the name of, but it is part of Amanda Mustad’s Singles Collection (if you’re interested then click the following link: http://www.amandamustard.com/singles#/id/i11115001).
what I originally liked about it was that it was obviously an action shot, which means this photographer had to bring a camera on this ride in order to get it, now I cant get a camera for less than 20 bucks, so this shows so dedication to a craft, which I respect. but despite the process to get this shot, I also appreciate the contrast of the seats against the background, and like the scale of the subjects against the background. I do think the angle of the horizon line is quite interesting, if not weird, but I do admit that it is probably for the best since if the horizon line was flat that the subjects would be at an extremely weird angle. the photographer seems to like unique angles expecially with this picture and like to take pictures of happy every day life, even during heavy or depressing times. she photographs many things so I would suggest you check out her site with the link I posted above.

this picture was Created by Maurizo Di Iorio I was attracted to it for its simplicity, how the colors contrast each other as well, and the texture in the leaves is really good, I personally wish the background was a different color, but if I'm being honest, I've never really been a fan of the color pink. when I look at this piece my mind automatically makes a connection between the fruit and the egg, both being the seeds to creating life whether it be plant or animal life. a little investigation into the photographers motivation revealed that with their pictures that they like to create dark and ambiguous photos which I feel was reflected in this piece quite well, but the artist didn't have much in terms of an artist statement for this piece specifically or the meaning so I don't quite know if I am right or wrong. what I can say about it though is that it was made for a magazine called “It’s nice that.” if you want to check out some of his other works though visit the following site: http://www.mauriziodiiorio.com/ he has many other nice pieces to look at.
