Struggling to find motivation to take out my tablet so I decided to try some pixels since that's easier to do with a mouse. 32x32 Shibas/spitz dogs I made while referencing the pixel art learning book, ドット絵教室.

We're happy to announce that we are back with the annual event for NofNA fans – the Fan Art Week!

This year's prompts are:

Canon meets fanon. Your own character* meets a canon nofna character. What will they do?

50,000 years. A member of animal society interacts with human technology for the first time.

I'm going to borrow your move. A nofna character (canon or fanon) imitates someone else's martial style.

Fourth Day is a day of rest. Feel free to create anything you want, or take a break.

Roleswap. Depict an animal nofna character as a human, or vice versa.

Snack break. A canon nofna character, or your OC, eating their favourite food. Yum!

Carbon dating. Depict a piece of artwork or an item, which could be shown in a museum belonging to the animal society.

*If you do not have a character of your own (OC), then draw your favourite background character instead.

Complete as many or as few prompts and you’d like, and share the fruits of your labour on social media. Painting, sculpting, poetry, music – all kinds of art are welcome here. You can also submit your work directly to us, and we will share it on the blog. Don’t worry about getting everything done, the point is to enjoy yourself and have fun!

This community-organised event will run from 3rd until 9th of February, 2025.

The Exotic Animal Photo Reference Repository is live!

Here's how this repository works: all photos were taken by me, a human, at zoos, aquariums, sanctuaries, and other facilities with animals in human care. There is no AI involved in the photo editing or creation and there never will be. Right now there's 56 species on the site; my catalog has over 300 and I will be uploading the rest of them as fast as I can.

Artists creating derivative or transformative works (without AI) have blanket permission to use these references. Yes, even for work you're going to sell.

All other usage/reproduction requires permission, but assume I'm friendly and please do ask! That's educators, researchers, the media, people who need images for a school presentation, etc. This is just to retain copyright/control in case they're scraped/reused unethically - it doesn't meant I don't want folk to have access! So please do reach out via the contact form on the repository website, I don't bite and I'm most likely going to say yes.

Please don't repost the repository photos to your own blogs: I've created @animalphotorefs as a dedicated blog to share photos from the site, and of course I'll reblog a lot of it here! That again just helps with retaining copyright and sourcing of the images. If you really want to repost some for a specific purpose, please just ask me first!

Also, folks, this project has no funding. It's just me and my camera.

There will never be a paywall on the site - I believe resources like this absolutely must be free for everyone to access. So please, please, please support the repository if you use it. Want sneak peeks at photos, cute videos I take, or to help choose what I photograph and what gets posted first? Free Manual Wheelchair Reference Models

For disability pride month, I decided to release a pack of 3D manual wheelchair models.

The pack includes 5 wheelchairs:

2 Active urban-style chairs (one of which includes a smart drive)

1 off-road active chair

1 children's wheelchair

and 1 standard "hospital" wheelchair).

All the wheelchairs are based off either wheelchairs I or friends of mine have used

The first download link includes the original .Blend file with all 5 chairs, as well as individual .obj or .fbx files the chairs (All but 1 have an .obj file, as they're only meshes. The chair with the smart drive is rigged, which is why it has an .Fbx file instead so it will retain that information) as well as a "read me" file that explains in more depth what kind of disability/character/lifestyle each chair is made for (These are just what I had in mind when I designed them, they are usable by other characters who don't fit the suggestions for the most part!) I wanted to include the Read Me contents in the CSP Asset Store listing, but CS said it was too long lol.

Also, as the title says, these files are free to use! While it's not mandatory, I would appreciate credit if you use them (or even just a tag so I can see the cool art you make with them!!)

I actually made these ages ago, the original plan was to use them in a series of posts then release the pack, but I never got around to making the series and so they've just been sitting here. I took a day off from art fight attacks to clean them all up and get them ready to post. If you experience any issues, let me know and I'll try to fix it up.

I had a couple more that were supposed to be in the pack including a sports (basketball/Tennis) wheelchair and some different styles of wheelchair, but I think the files corrupted so once I fix (or remake) them, I'll probably make a second pack.

Doggust 2024 Day 15: Kooikerhondje

Wasn't sure if I was going to do Doggust today because I want to get back to practicing human characters, but when I saw the breed for today was Kooikerhondje I couldn't resist. Decided to try an open mouth expression because I struggle with that a lot.

like I know a lot of people just do clean sketches or painting because they don't like line art but my Idea Art Style™️ is solid, bold lines so I gotta figure it out.
