The ACS migration skills assessment can be achieved if your educational qualifications and work expertise are of ICT level. It must be closely associated with the appointive occupation (ANZSCO) for migration functions.

Requirements, course units, employment episodes are assessed to determine if it is considered an ICT professional unit or not. This assessment outcome can confirm if the qualification may be a Major, Minor, or if the ICT content is insufficient.

Only the occupation closely related to the ICT units is assessed.

Determines the amount of work experience required to meet the suitability criteria

Employment episodes are also evaluated to determine if they are related to the nominated occupation.

ACS surveys your training to coordinate your degrees with Australia’s instructive framework and give authentication to guarantee ICT major or minor status, including your work understanding. A positive ACS evaluation is required to ensure instruction, work and mate focuses on Australia PR application.

Australian Computer Society will deduct a minimum of two years from your work experience, considering it as a training period. The maximum that is deducted from the work experience is six-eight years. However, the number of years to be deducted depends on various factors like work experience not aligned to the educational degrees.

Examples for reference purpose

Let us suppose you have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or engineering that is an ICT major and closely related to ANZSCO code. You completed your qualification on 31st Dec 2001, and you have a relevant four years of work experience from 1st Jan 2002 to 31st Dec 2006. Your two years of work experience is deducted in this process, according to the ACS suitability criteria. Therefore, your Skill Requirement Met Date will be counted from 31st Dec 2004. The work experience after 2004 is taken as skilled employment and eligible for point test of skilled migration.

Whereas for a Bachelor’s degree with ICT major but not related to ANZSCO code like B.E in Electrical and Electronics,  a total of four years is deducted from your work experience. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is considered as an ICT major if this profession has the involvement of at least 25% of ICT subjects.

Graduates from non-computer science background are considered as ICT Minor along with a related ANZSCO code. A total of five years is deducted from their work experience. For graduates from MBA or other degrees, a total of six years is deducted. They are considered ICT minor and are not related to the ANZSCO code.

ACS ‘AFTER’ Start Date

The important topic is the “after month” that is mentioned in the ACS skill assessment report. ACS does not specify which date to use in your Australia SkillSelect EOI (Expression of Interest). According to the ACS guidelines, you can use the date you filed your ACS application to use in your EOI.

1. Online application

The Department of Home Affairs have set various guidelines for personal visa requirements. Candidates should go through the rules and regulations before jumping onto conclusions. You can enlist the services of the registered Migration Agent (MARA) to help you with your visa application before submitting an ACS skills assessment. Your Migration Skills Assessment is based on the documentation you’ve uploaded into the Online Application Form.

Note: Before submitting the online application, ensure all the required documents are submitted for the assessment to flow efficiently. In case of missing some documents, ACS is not obligated to request for further documents. Such an act of carelessness may lead to delay in processing and result in an unfortunate outcome.

c. Track the application status

After the submission, a confirmation email will be sent that will contain your ACS reference number and password. You can later use these credentials to view the status of your application.

d. Priority requests

This kind of claim is available for Australian visa only with deadlines less than 12 weeks from the date of application. Candidates must inform beforehand at least two weeks’ notice of the deadline. Proof of the deadline must be uploaded as a PDF document to have the request approved. Examples of the document as a proof to the ACS:

The date of the deadline must be after the ACS skills application. The priority requests that are not for the visa deadline will be processed as general applications.

The maximum period to process the assessment by the ACS as defined in their guidelines is from 10 to 12 weeks. If you prepare a decision-ready application with all the proofs needed, it will be processed in a small amount of time.

The ACS doesn’t provide renewals of the result letter. Candidates must submit a new application by logging into the dashboard area.

5. Translation of documents

Documents written in a language other than English must be translated.

a. Translating documents within Australia

The translation must be retrieved from translators accredited with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI)

b. Translating documents outside Australia

The translation must be obtained from:

Australian, as well as qualified overseas candidates, are assessed for a Skills and RPL assessment pathway. Only the Temporary Graduate and Post Australian Study assessment pathways require an Australian bachelor or higher level qualification to meet the suitability criteria.

The main objective of the course must be adequately defined, surrounding the area of information and communication technology. The outcome will promote graded transition of learning experiences from directed starting to the independent learning approach. The primary purpose is to encourage the dynamic improvement of a student’s knowledge and skills.

Accredited Australian ICT qualifications

Candidates who have Australian qualifications and been accredited by the ACS will meet the ICT Major Criteria. But this doesn’t guarantee that the qualification will be assessed as being closely related to the ANZSCO occupation.

Assessment of ICT Content in Tertiary Qualifications

Under this category, the qualifications are assessed as having either ICT Major or ICT Minor in computing. The ICT content, less than a minor, is evaluated as a Non-ICT qualification.

ICT Major Criteria

Bachelor’s Degree Level

Three year Bachelor level qualification is regarded as having a major in computing, given that at least 33% of qualification is ICT. The qualification that is longer in duration is assessed to the equivalent of a three-year AQF Level 7 award (Bachelor).

Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree Level

Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree is regarded as having a major in computing, given that at least 50% of the qualification is ICT. The qualification that is longer in duration is assessed to the equivalent of a standard AQF level 5 or 6 award

Post Graduate Degree Level

A postgraduate qualification that doesn’t require a Bachelor with an ICT Major for entry in the course is regarded as having a major in computing given that at least 50% of qualification is ICT. Qualification longer in duration is assessed to the equivalent of an AQF Level 8 and above award. Australian Postgraduate degree with only 12 subjects requires at least 67% of the ICT content.

Australian postgraduate qualifications must contain:

A minimum of three semesters or at least one and half years of full-time study;

At least two semesters or one year of full-time equivalent ICT content;

A minimum of twelve units or subjects

A postgraduate qualification (Graduate Diploma, Masters, or Doctoral qualification) that does require a Bachelor qualification with a major in ICT for entry into the course must have ICT content of at least 33%, all of which must be at the postgraduate level.

ICT Minor Criteria

Bachelor level qualification is regarded as a minor in computing, given that the ICT content is at least two-thirds of the requirement for a major.

Insufficient ICT content

The qualifications with ICT content less than the requirement for a major are assessed as Non-ICT.

Closely related ICT content Criteria

The education qualification with at least 65% of the ICT content must be related to the claimed occupation for the suitability criteria to meet.

Statement of Academic Record

Your academic transcript should contain the list of subjects undertook and the grade points received. Web results and result slips are not acceptable. Candidates should include a legend or a key explaining the grading system to help clarify information if required.

Qualification Completed but Graduation Certificate is not yet awarded

If the candidates have completed their qualification but haven’t received certificates, an official document clearly stating the date of the course completion must be provided.

Thesis or Research Project Abstract

If the qualification includes a thesis or research report, an abstract of the thesis or the report is required. The abstract should be endorsed by the supervisor, along with the name of the university.  The publication name for the thesis must be included. The front page of the abstract should include the amount (%) and the nature of ICT content related to the nominated ANZSCO.

Region-Specific Requirements

Bologna agreement

If the candidate is from a country that is a signatory to the Bologna Agreement; diploma supplement should be submitted.

People’s Republic of China (PRC)

If the candidate is from the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the graduation diploma and the certificate of an award should be submitted according to the regulation concerning Academic degrees in the PRC.

Pakistan

If the candidate is from Pakistan, an attested HEC (Higher Education Commission Pakistan) copy of the award certificate and full academic transcript must be provided.

Philippines

If the candidate is from the Philippines, evidence of passing the Professional Regulation Commission’s Licensure Examinations should be submitted if available
