Artificial Turf
Turf Terms: G-Max
Act Global is one of the world’s largest producers of synthetic turf and is dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality products available. This comes as a result of continuous research, development, and testing of our artificial grass technologies to ensure each system adheres to strict safety and performance standards.
Tumblr media
One of the most fundamental tests of synthetic turf safety is g-max testing. This test measures how many Gs of force a surface absorbs and what will be returned back to a player upon impact. With the growing prevalence of concussions and other impact-related injuries such as fractures, g-max research is critical to athlete safety. Surfaces that are rated with a high g-max score increase the risk of potentially dangerous injuries because they are returning more force back to players rather than absorbing it the shock.
Act Global utilizes industry-standard testing techniques to measure the g-max of our systems and balances it with its counterpart: vertical deformation. Act Global turf provides the right balance between shock absorption (the surface absorbs lots of energy during the impact thus provides safety) and deformation (the surface does not deform too much during the impact thus provides springiness and performance).

Grass Manufacturer
It’s officially the first day of summer 2017 and our headquarters office in Austin, Texas is already facing temperatures in the triple digits! With the sun shining bright and the heat dialing up, it’s more important than ever to be cognitive of your water usage at home.
Tumblr media
According to two studies conducted by the American Water Works Association released in 1999 and 2011, water use by single-family residential homes are on the rise- outdoor use especially.  In the study released in 1999, an average annual 84,000 gallons per household were used for outdoor purposes.  In 2011, it rose to 90,300 gallons.  This is over a 7% increase, even after the introduction of high efficiency homes in 2001.  Water use for outdoor applications is significantly higher in the summer months then the rest of the year, averaging 729 gallons per day, per household.  This is equal to showering for 347 minutes.  Of this number, 80%-90% of outdoor water use is dedicated to lawns, gardens, and plants (Hermitte & Mace, 2012).
At Act Global, we worked to engineer a solution to engineer a solution to this excessive water usage.  We believe in the cultivation of a smarter, greener planet-starting at the home.  Our Turfscape line is a high quality, natural-looking artificial grass that is both durable in all weather conditions and versatile in all applications.  Each square foot of regular grass that is replaced with Turfscape saves 55 gallons of water per year- all without the hassle of seasonal maintenance.
So enjoy your summer while helping to make a positive impact on this planet!

Act Global Advances Its Mission To “Be More”
Tumblr media
The synthetic turf producer has renewed its participation with United Nations Global Compact and the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry.
Act Global strives to be a company of positive impact. Through a dedication of innovating sustainable turf products, paired with a promise to support charitable organizations worldwide, we are a company committed to “Be More”.
Last year we made a promise through our Communication on Progress; this year we renewed it. UN’s Global Compact is a worldwide initiative that calls upon companies to be a force of good. The movement asks companies to align their strategies and operations with principles of human rights, labor reform, environment sustainability, and anti-corruption. Since its founding in 2000, the Compact has grown to encompass 9,454 companies in 162 counties, with 46,355 individual reports. We’re proud to be in this community of worldwide businesses that believe in corporate responsibility to take action and advance societal goals.
Going into 2017 we found another community of accountability that recognizes the important role businesses play in the global economy. The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) is the world authoritative body for the sports industry that was founded with the mission to “use the power of sport to change the world”. The WFSGI encompasses over 5,000 members that have pledged to be global leaders in improving working conditions, protecting the environment, and having a positive economic and social impact on communities. Since becoming a member, we have engaged in and passed an independent audit in compliance with WFSGI, strengthening our promise to the UN Global Compact. Both of these organizations seamlessly align with our mission to be more than a synthetic turf company, and to use our platform to serve others.
“We have a lot of certifications and credentials to test and validate what we do as an artificial turf manufacturer. This is a statement of who we are” -John Baize, Act Global. ###

Sports Artificial Turf
Field Feature Friday: Montigny Baseball & Softball Club
Since the club’s start in 1988, it has grown from French National 3 (Division 4) competition to Division 1-level play. The Cougars are also the largest French baseball club and encompass 255 licensees. The Cougars’ 2018 season officially kicked off earlier this month with a doubleheader on April 1st. The club started the season by winning both matches, setting the tone for its first official season in D1 play.
In 2017 the club upgraded its facility to continue to improve the resources it has available to develop better athletes. Of these upgrades were the installation of a world-class artificial grass field from Act Global.  Made for speed and precision, Act Global’s baseball turf is engineered for consistent play to remove bad hops, high drainage, extreme durability and long-term inlaid markings.  Because of this, the Cougars now have a synthetic turf system that will allow each of the eight teams to perform exceptionally.
On October 8th, 2017 the team hosted an inauguration of the new facility in Montigny le Bretonneux, Paris, France.

Just one day until the largest international fair for air and space kicks off in Santiago, Chile.
The International Air and Space Fair (FIDAE) is an aerospace, defesnse, and security exhibition with the mission to improve aviation safety and technology in all sectors. For four decades FIDAE has celebrated innovation within the industry and encouraged investment into research and development to continue its rapid progression. This year’s exhibition will be FIDAE’s 20th annual event and will bring together hundreds of companies headquartered in dozens of countries around the world into 8 exhibition halls. The event runs from April 3rd to April 8th with the last 2 days featuring multiple air shows by top pilots.
Act Global is excited to be in attendance at the event to showcase our AvTurf and Xtreme Turf systems. AvTurf is a synthetic turf surface that provides comprehensive ground safety enhancements and erosion control to make airplane takeoffs and landings more effective and efficient.  Modern airports around the world face similar hazards that impact their runways and taxiways including foreign object debris (FOD), bird strikes, erosion, drainage, wildlife management and visual recognition concerns.  Natural grass ground covers can exacerbate these issues due to unavoidable climatic characteristics and animal inhabitants of the area. AvTurf is a durable, attractive, and a cost-effective solution for 21st-century airports.
Xtreme Turf is a world-class sports turf brand from Act Global that has earned an array of FIFA-quality certifications and has been installed in over 80 countries across the world.
