Fix problems downloading your Norton device security product

If you cannot download or install your Norton product on your device, select one of the following that best describes your situation:

Norton Download or Norton install doesn't start or complete

Your Norton device security installation begins when you run the downloaded file. To locate the downloaded file, do one of the following depending on your browser:

For Windows: Press Ctrl + J key, to open the Downloads window in your browser, and double-click the file that you downloaded.

For Mac: Press Command + Option + L, to open the Downloads window in your browser, and double-click the file that you downloaded.

When you start the installation and if nothing appears, there are chances that the install window is hidden behind other windows. We suggest that you minimize all open windows to see the installer.

If the download doesn't start or progress, we suggest that you re-download the file. For detailed instructions, read Download and install your Norton device security product.

If the install did not complete or if you cannot open your Norton device security, we suggest that you download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool. Read, Download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

I see an incompatibility message while installing Norton setup key

Norton products are not compatible with Chromebooks.

Click one of the links depending on the message that you see:

On Windows:

"This product is not compatible with this computer's current operating system..."

"Your version of Norton product is incompatible with this version of Windows..."

Error: "One or more programs on your computer are not compatible with this Norton product..."

On Mac:

Download your Norton product purchased from a retail store

To install the Norton device security product that you purchased from a retail store or a third-party affiliated website, create a Norton account or add the purchased product to your existing account.

If you already have a Norton subscription, you can install it on your device by signing in to your account. For more details, read Download and install your Norton device security.

ADD THE PURCHASED PRODUCT TO YOUR ACCOUNT AND INSTALL YOUR NORTON PRODUCT

During the setup process, you are offered to enroll to an automatically renewing subscription. For more details about automatically renewing subscriptions, read Learn more about your automatically renewing subscription.

From your web browser, go to norton.com/enroll.

Click Sign in.

If you do not have an account, click create a new account and complete the sign-up process.

In the Get Started page, click Enter A New Product Key.

Type the product key and click >.

Your product key is a combination of alphabetic and numeric characters. It does not contain any special characters.

If you purchased a boxed product online or at a local retail store, your product key is inside the box either on a sticker, or printed on a card in the box.

Your subscription begins when you enter the 25-character key found on your product card or order confirmation email.

If you see the message "Invalid Product Key", read Message: "Invalid Product Key".

Read the License and Services Agreement and click Agree.

In the Annual Automatic Renewal Authorization page, update your billing address and credit card details.

Read the Subscription and Automatic Renewal Payment Authorization and click Turn on Automatic Renewal or Start Subscription.

Click Agree & Download.

Follow the instructions displayed to Run or Save the Downloader file. These can be different depending on your browser. If you save the file, make sure that you double-click the file from the saved location after the download is completed.

Once the Norton installer is executed, your product is downloaded, installed, and activated automatically. Your device displays its current protection status and additional software can be installed from within your account.

COMMON MISTAKES WHEN ENTERING NORTON SETUP PRODUCT KEY

Spaces in the product key will cause an error.

Make sure you are entering license information for the specific product you are using. License information for one Norton product is not interchangeable with another product.

For example, you cannot use the product key for your Norton device security product to activate Norton Utilities Premium. You can find the product key for Norton Utilities Premium in the My Subscription page of your account.

If you still see a message indicating incorrect or invalid licensing information, verify that you typed the license information exactly as shown.

Some characters (such as the number 0 and the letter O) can look very similar. Try double-checking the following: the letters O, l (lower-case l), I (capital I); and the numbers 0 (zero) and 1 (one).

Transfer your protection from one device to another device

Your subscription comes with a limited number of licenses to protect your various devices. If you have used up your licenses, you can transfer a license from an unused device to allow installation on another device. To check if you have any licenses left with your subscription, read Find the licenses left with your subscription.

TRANSFER YOUR NORTON LICENSE TO ANOTHER DEVICE

Sign in to your account.

On the Device Security page, identify the device that you no longer want to protect.You cannot remove the license associated with a device that has a red or gray (inactive) status.

 You must fix the issues in that device before you remove the license associated with it. 

If you cannot fix the issues, you can remove the device from your account.

If you do not see the device, click View History link at the bottom of the device list to see your older inactive devices.

 If you still do not see the device, the device may be associated with a different product key or subscription.

Click the More options icon available below the device and in the menu that appears, click Manage License.

In the Manage Licenses page, select Remove License and then click Yes to confirm.

Once you remove a license from a device, the device is no longer protected and is removed from the Device Security page.

To install the protection on a new device, click Install Now.Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation.

Install your Norton protection on another device

Sign in to your account.

Under the subscription that you want to extend to your other device, check if you have licenses left with your subscription.

If you have an unused license, click Download.

Click Send a download link.

Do one of the following:

To get an email with a download link, type an email address that you can access from your other device and then click  icon.

By default, your account email address is filled in.

To get a text message with a download link, click Text and do the following:

Select your country from the drop-down list.

Enter the mobile number on which you want to receive the text message.

Click  icon.

To copy the download link, click Copy Link.

To get the app on your mobile, scan the QR code at the right side of the screen.

Install your protection on your current device

Sign in to your account.

In the My Norton page, click/tap Download.

In the Get Started page, click Agree & Download.

If you are on a mobile device, choose the subscription that you want to download and tap Next.
